Let me get this straight all the professionals like wojo, hollinger, all respect him and are saddened to hear the news.... yet the cult of S2 thinks he sucks cause their fearless leaders (we know who they are) think Jason sucks?

Do I have that correct?

Give me a break. Nba players are typically scumbags. He's right. Always was pretty honest I thought and wrote entertaining articles. Freeman should write for the AP. just the facts. Boring and lifeless

No you don't.

Quick is a tool, but journalists do a ton of work for little financial reward. It's probably tough when everyone hates you for trying to do a good job.

I don't think they hate him for trying to do a good job. I think they hate him for being a douche bag. He has publicly stated, on more than one occasion, he doesn't like talking to NBA players. If you're an NBA player, are you going to like someone who doesn't like you and your kind AND has a job that can influence public opinion about you as both a player and a person?

Not all beat writers are despised by the players they write about, but then not all beat writers make a big deal about how much they dislike talking to those players (aka: doing their job).

BNM

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Boob-No-More again.

Nice post, repped

John Canzano wins awards. He must be a flawless writer.

Alot of experience interacting with NBA players on a personal level leads you to this opinion?

I'm a huge blazer homer... And I always enjoyed quicks articles and interviews. Nba players are not all great guys like we all want to believe. Not quicks fault he's supposed to write about what truthfully goes on

I'm going to miss Quick covering the Blazers.

Quick did his best but it really was a no win situation for him during the jailblazer era and he seem to be religiously hated after that by many Blazer fans. For me, I thought Quick brought more insight and took us behind the Blazer scene more than any other local writer.

I have a personal dislike for Canzano, who I think loves himself more than any other Oregon sports writer . . . but I don't get that same vibe from Quick the way others do.

He was more deserving of the Nobel Peace Prize than Obama! <lights fuse, runs away, giggling maniacally>

Come on now, we've had the discussion before. I think it's time to let this one go, wookee.

You ain't one who would be running.

I've never had a problem with Quick. Even when I've disagreed with something he wrote, he generally wrote about something that I was interested in (my team, and his access to it) that I wouldn't get without him. When I've emailed or tweeted him about some of the errors (impossible trade rumors, the Nic situation, cap numbers) he's been relatively gracious and receptive--unlike some other guys.

Haynes, fwiw, is the same way.

Either way, I'm sure to read less of him since I don't follow the Ducks as much as the Blazers, but I don't hate him, I'm not going to pee on his grave, and I think Blazer fandom just took a hit--unless a "better Quick" is in the pipeline. Which I don't see, especially with the cuts at the Big O.

Quick is a diva. I find it funny that he complains about the fans not understanding his profession, well I understand the profession and he was a tool. The whole way the Oregonian dealt with the Jail Blazer era was unprofessional and bordered on tabloid journalism. He and Canzano walked around the Rose Garden like they owned the place. I was one of the first web guys to get credentialed with the team, and most of the print journalists looked down on us as inferior. I do think that Jason got better as time went on, but he was one of the worst offenders in the early 2000's.

Print journalism is on its way out, and ego maniacs like Jason Quick are on their way out with it.

Totally agree. Every little incident that happened during the Jail Blazer era the Oregonian sensationalized and blew out of proportion. Ten years AFTER the yellow hummer incident with Damon and Rasheed, Crapzano still writes about it.

you don't blame a sports reporter who resents doing his job??? His mode of operation was to take a single bland throw away quote and extrapolate it to infer all sorts of melodrama while ignoring recapping whatever happened in the game. He forever interjected himself (and his precious feelings) as the central part of his stories. And as someone else pointed out he never showed the professionalism to learn the basic parameters of the current CBA. Being Damon's proud champion was just another reason for readers to shake their collective heads. Basically he came across as a lazy & salacious douche who resented doing his job.

Oh joy, he's now covering Duck football. I won't be clicking any of the O's Duck links as I don't want to line this POS's pockets

STOMP

Hey, not everyone likes their job. A prison guard doesn't necessarily like the prisoners. He's dealt with a lot of assholes during his career, Rasheed, Bonzi, LaMarcus seems like a sour-puss too.

The "Behind the Blazer Beat" articles were solid 3-4 years ago. I do think Quick checked out of the job right after those ended, since he basically had burned bridges.

I don't think he had much of a choice in this, because of the way he turned LMA's words about Portland against LMA, which caused a huge local Chicken Little reaction in the fan base.

I remember quick doing a story on Roy and how much family met to him.

Hcp do u cheat on ur wife? Because lots of nba players do. Not all of em but the majority. And please don't act like they don't. U think cause ur a camera man and around a team that u see everything? Please.

He sees and has seen a hell of a lot more than you.

What kind of hair-brained logic is that? I seriously feel like I lose IQ points reading your posts.

For HCP, so he'll have something actually worth reading/watching, after that post.

So that stuff never happened, and Quick made it all up?

The way they pursued non-stories was tabloid-esque.

Zach Randolph donated a bunch of money to Portland Parks, but because of a mixup with his manager the check bounced. They got their money, but some asshole ran to the Oregonian and they blasted him for it.

Darius Miles had a situation where he stopped to get gas, he didn't have enough money in his bank account. Someone came out and paid for it. The station got its money, but someone ran to the Oregonian.

Why were these even stories that were reported in the paper? This is the kind of bullshit I'm talking about.

I view HCP like I view Barrett. Basically take anything they say with a huge grain of salt. You know you're getting a huge homer opinion.

Weren't you using Quick as a valid source during your TRADE LMA diatribes this summer? How LMA didn't like Portland and wanted out, all because of Quick's twisted quote?

Hcp tries defending these scumbags cause he thinks they give two shits about him. It's really pathetic. With that said
I wonder if he would bet his job or anyone else here would that the majority of nba players don't have affairs on the road?? Haha would love to see all these guys who hide behind keyboards have the balls to ask questions quick does.
