IMO, this is good for both Greg and the Blazers. He's taking a risk that he will stay healthy and command a big contract this year. But if he does stay healthy, he'll make far more money over his career than if he signed a contract for what the Blazers or any other team would be willing to risk on him this season absent seeing him play and produce. For the Blazers, they get the benefit of a year of play before deciding to commit to a long term max, or near-max, deal. You have to think that Brandon will have mixed feelings about Greg, knowing that if he pans out and the Blazers make Greg a big offer next year, it could pretty much seal the deal as far as amnestying him before next season.
