Quick: Olshey eyeing buyout and trade market

I think the focus should be on small forward. I don't think Little is quite ready to start and while I like DJJ, I think he's probably gone next year.

I'm not sure if I've seen it here, but the Blazers cannot trade a 1st round until the after this year's draft due to the conditions for the trade with the Rockets. The pick is top 14 protected for 2021. If we're in the top 14, it gets moved to the next year and so on until 2027 as teams cannot trade 1st rounders past 2027. So, in other words, any trade folks are talking about now can't involve a 1st round pick for the Blazers. I believe we will finish outside of the top 14 this year and thus the pick will be conveyed to Houston this year. Then Neil can use a first rounder again in a trade after the draft this year, but we'll have to wait and see.

I'd like a big guard the can reliably defend, get into the paint and shoot a little.

Sounds like Delon Wright is available. Not sexy, but I think Hood and a 2nd might be enough.

@hoopsjock as much as i agree with you about Terry's incompetence, I 100% disagree with you about investing in potential at this stage in Dames career. Think youre in line with this but you don't think Gordon fits that bill. I disagree but nbd.
Again, you're completely misinterpreting what I was saying.

I'm starting to come around to the idea of trying to pry Draymond away from Golden State.

Can they realistically turn things around at this point? Klay might not be the same. Curry is 32. Can they reload at this point to make another run?

I am not convinced Hood and Collins have any real value. IMHO Trent is the only one that a team would really want, Simons, DJJ, and Nas to a lesser extent.

Hood and Collins only real value in a trade right now is their contracts being basically expiring. No one thinks a team would give us anything for them of value.

I'm not sure about trading for a four.

Can RoCo still play small forward? He seems like more of a four at this point.
I see him switching onto shooting guards all of the time and staying with them. I don't see him as a power forward, just a forward.

That would be an amazing deal.

You dont think Gordon would be our 11th man. What am I missing?
You're really confusing me. I have no idea what this means or how it applies to you thinking I said I wanted the Blazers to trade for a project player.

Delon Wright is my #1 dream target that’s somewhat realistic. I’d give up Simons for him.

That wasn't my point at all. I was talking about in general terms I'd rather trade for potential of a younger player than someone who is 7 years in the league and hasn't improved much, not that I want the Blazers to trade for either.

As for AG, again, I'd rather have any player on our roster than him other than Hood. I'd rather just give those minutes to Little than trade pieces (like that horrible trade above) to get a player who isn't very good and would be one of the worst fits imaginable under Stotts.

It seems you prefer trading for Gordon than signing DJJ in the offseason.

AG had other years that he got off to hot starts shooting the 3 and finished shooting around 30-32% in those years. I don't think 19 games outweighs his whole career.
My whole thing I don't see him getting 11 shots most nights in our offense. But he does handle the ball and distribute pretty good and good defense rating and plays more like small forward then a power forward.

Just Another Trade Idea:

2 2nds going to Cleveland
Keeps us under the tax (I think?!?).
Give Cavs a huge amount of cap space this offseason.
I like Nance. I think he would be better than Gordon, for one. 10 rebounds and almost 3 steals per 36. efg% .566, DBPM 2.0 this year. Does not shoot FT's well. 28 years old. I would trade Trent and Hood for him. They could have Giles too if they want.

It’s sad that the most we can look forward to is a minor move around the edges, when it’s clear this team is completely unequipped to win more than one series.
Well if seeds were as is in May, that would match us up with Clippers. If we’re equipped to beat the Clippers, why would the Jazz be a bridge too far? Most consider the Clippers a top 3 title contender.

It's not often that I agree with you, but when I do...you probably want to rethink your position.

Seriously though, watching Nas play during the last few weeks has been eye-opening. The guy has a strong motor, is athletic as hell, and has developed a nice shooting stroke. His defense is a work in progress, to say the least, and he needs more experience to put everything together, but I feel like he is the Blazers' SF of the future.

I like when he puts it on the floor he gets to the rim really well. Granted I don’t think he finishes at his best yet but it’s still impressive to see.

A bit off topic, but Quick also mentions that the return of Nurk and CJ is a “matter of days, not weeks”
Big deal, I heard that on the Blazers' network over a week ago. I'm expecting CJ before Nurk and was thinking he would appear for the Suns game.

he would be terrific, but is he actually available? i think he is probably detroit's 2nd best player right now.

another guy who would probably be of interest is Eric Bledsoe. He's one of Olshey's favorites, but his contract might be an issue in a trade. Pels prolly won't buy him out even if they're ripe for a blowup. But he's still got two years left after this one on a nasty 17 mil per.

have we ever seen this many players held out, away from the team pending trades/buyouts prior to the deadline?

- Blake
- Drummond
- Aldridge
- Cousins
- Tucker

this is a bit unusual.

Only one I want on that list is Tucker.

Imagine if we signed Aldridge on the buyout market and then traded Hood (+ maybe Simons) for a real PG, like Rondo. That’s two moves though, not sure Olshey can multitask like that.

But trading Hood for a PG has to happen. Not only do we desperately need one, but it would also open up minutes for Little, which he has earned.

who is going to trade a decent pg for Hood?

Atlanta for instance would save millions if they swapped Rondo for Hood, as Hood only has a team option for next year while Rondo is guaranteed $7.5m. Throw in a second and that’s probably something they would/should be interested in.

that would be something Portland would do if they were honestly wanting to contend, this year. I'm skeptical that's an Olshey priority
