funny how Dame is having an absolutely abysmal season, but receives no criticism.

its not just his shooting %, his overall effort is garbage. His attitude is appalling to watch, it is simply unbelievable we paid this much money to someone who cares this little.

He spent more time this off season making music videos than rehabbing a core injury. He has more rap albums than second round playoff appearances, but we’re all supposed to pretend he is some Kobe Bryant type talent because he hits a 30 foot three once in the blue.

I would trade Lillard for Simmons straight up. It’s clear he has no intention on bringing this city a championship and is very content to fade into the sunset, getting high/drunk, cheating on his wife, cashing in on corny white lib dorks from Portland buying his shoes/jersey, and collecting interest on the half billion dollars Portland paid him.

He seems more interested in his mediocre rap career than his fading NBA career at this point, and he will probably be hosting the 4 Bar Friday show on BET within a year or two.
when anyone mentions anything about Dame there is a witch hunt and you lambasted. I guess he can get paid hundreds of millions of dollars for playing basketball give poor effort and get not backlash for some reason.

You have to play with energy running the scheme Chauncey runs. You have to cover more ground. I think he's running the right stuff, but we have guys on this team that aren't fully bought in on the defensive side of the ball. As a coach, if players won't buy into playing the right way, you gotta ship them out. CJ, RoCo, whoever. Would rather try and play the right way, fail, and identify the problems than settle for what we did last year.

right is not an objective word, unless it's the opposite of left

pretty sure there's not one single way to defend...the "right" way can take many forms depending on the players. Good defense requires position, reaction, speed, length. I think Portland has deficits in those areas

and just maybe, you shouldn't implement a new defense all at once. Instead of installing 100% of a new defense. maybe it's better to try 30% first to see if it matches the personnel.

I haven't been paying attention; has anyone been banned lately?

Quick's commentary makes a number of good ... yet mostly completely obvious points ... and coats it all heavily in hyperbole.

Then again, IMO, Quick's a good writer who's never been particularly consistent in his takes. He seems to go for whatever is either a) going to drive people to the content at the moment or b) do what might ingratiate a subject to him.

Now, as far as the Blazers go, a lot of forum members obviously have personal stakes in seeing certain people succeed or fail, so the narratives match that.

The team is 11-13. It's a whole game out of fifth place and 2.5 out of HCA. That's with a brand-new coach with a completely different (and I think better, if you hope to actually go anywhere in the playoffs) style and a member of the NBA's all-75 years team playing hurt the whole season so far and eventually sitting out and trying to get right. He wasn't the only member of the rotation missing during the last two losses, either; it's hard to measure this team when you've had to deal with CJ's antics because no one else can get their shot and you've had to play Ben McLemore big minutes after he sat all but one game up to that point because Nas has been out, Ant's missed almost two full games and Norm came back from on injury and immediately broke his face in practice.

With all that, two games under .500, would be a playoff team if the postseason started today with some pretty convincing wins over some really good teams to stand as a counter to some admittedly horrible losses. If I didn't follow the team and just read this board I'd think we were 3-21. Yeesh.

Dame is injured. He’s been injured all season though he won’t admit it. He was injured during the Olympics. Not being able to play up to your full potential because of injury sucks. Saying he’s giving poor effort because he’s injured is absurd.

Does that include Lillard, if he's not bought into playing defense the way Billups wants?

hes injured yes but some plays on defense he just gives up or doesnt try Idk how much of that is injury or lack of effort

Well, not moving the ball, being the worst passing team in the league by design, and running drop scheme 99% of the time certainly isn't the right way to play.

Some of the best defenders in the league are guys that aren't athletic or lengthy for their position. It helps, but a lot of it is effort, commitment, focus, and attention to detail. Little things that I thought this roster would embrace but haven't. That doesn't mean I think this roster is a top 10 defense based off of "defensive talent" or however you want to phrase it, but I still believe if they'd control the controllables, they could be between 10th and 15th which could be good enough given their offense. When they're not a top 10 defensively talented team and then they don't commit to doing what it takes to improve, you get a re-run of last year no matter what Chauncey does.

Your last point I could get on board with... If what they ran last year matched the personnel at all.
