Oh, and also Freeman had this non-newsworthy short on Oden's progress:
Greg Oden, who has not played since Feb. 12 because of an injured knee, worked on some light shooting and post moves with assistant coach Maurice Lucas at the end of practice. Oden also did a little light running and shooting on Friday. I don't have an update on when he might return, but I get the sense he is not close.

Jason Quick will find that he feels Greg Oden's posture while taking a piss is very, very underwhelming.

Canzano teased it on his Twitter feed, too:

"Big Oden news hitting The Oregonian in Mondays edition. Sorry, that's all I can offer."

Link.

I'm guessing surgery. If so, I will be rather disappointed in the Blazers.

Seriously?

Since when did OLive.com become KPTV? Quit teasing, damnit. You're supposed to be professional.

So who's the one who came up with the conspiracy that the Blazers wouldn't announce surgery until season ticket renewals were done or w/e?

Could we drug whoever gets the #1 pick and trade Oden+others for Blake Griffin? Or is this too blatant of a pipe dream?

yeah, media doesn't usually tease a story. If something breaks, they break it. It's dangerous to sit on a story for even 24 hours.

And then the next year we can dump on that player, and trade for the #1 pick. And the year after that, we can do it again. And then the next year, do it again. And the year after that? Trade Brandon Roy, because he hasn't lead us to the finals yet.

My guess: Big news, Oden plays tomorrow

Quick said during his late post-game tidbits article posted a few minutes ago that he was on assignment for something else at last night's game. My guess is that Greg isn't going to play but that Quick was talking to Oden and people about the frustration in the recovery process, etc.

...it is just to announce Oden appearing at the ESPY's again, that's all :dunno:

From Freeman's description, it has nothing to do with either Oden playing or (Freeman thought more likely) not playing. It'll just be one of those Quick "expose's" (that apostrophe is playing an accent) which will be a weird mixture of fawning and back-stabbing. Quick doesn't do facts he does feelings.

It's probably about how Oden secludes himself from everyone. Oden, the anti-social.

I'd probably be anti-social too, if all I heard and read all day was constant whining and bitching from fair weather fans and hack ass "journalists."

There is really nothing wrong with being anti-social. Some people just don't like other people. Everyone always gets all pissy about people who are anti-social but where is the nitpicking of people who are overly social?

As long as it doesn't involve Eddie Curry and a Limo Driver . . . .

I mean, at this point you almost expect the worst.

I am sure whatever it is, there will be a positive and negative spin to be found on this board.

I agree that if there were genuine news it would just be reported. So I'm guessing it will probably be along the lines of Oden got another dog, or somesuch. Something of no real importance, but they want to sell newspapers.

sigh....

Let's just hope he's ready for the playoffs.

That was an excellent article. It told be 50 times more than I knew before about Oden's knee, the various opinions they've gotten, when they go them, and how they were used. It looks to me like the Blazers were being overly optimistic about how injured Oden was. That, in turn, made it seem as though there was something wrong with how hard Oden was working to get back. Bad move on the Blazers' part. If Oden is truly a cornerstone of this team's future - and I have little doubt that he is - then give the guy the time he needs to get right, and lay off on the pressure. Anyone who's played competitive sports knows there is a big difference between being banged up and being truly injured. Banged up guys can still play if they push themselves. Injured guys will make their injuries worse in a hurry, if they try to compete. Oden is injured and needs time, and yes, possibly surgery, to get right. Good article. Not great news.

They ought to come out, like they did with Webster, and publicly shut Oden down for the season. It's painfully obvious the guy wont be ready any time soon.

If only the NBA had a lemon law....

The ignore feature is a wonderful thing.

Quick finally gets one right. It is about time one of our local writers acctually bothered to sit down with Oden and clear the air, so we actually know what is going on.

Novel concept.

Quick sat down with Oden a few weeks ago, when he quoted Oden as saying he was cleared and it was up to him when that would happen.

In other words, the team appears to have misled Greg about the severity of his injury, and KP allegedly saying it would be another 7-10 days last week really does make me question the team's motive behind comminicating this injury to both Greg and the public.
