Quick's Oden "revelation"

According to the article, it sounds to me like the team completely mishandled the injury. If the doctor tells you 1 to 6 weeks, you shouldn't assume one.

Honestly, having a bone chip floating around in your knee sounds pretty fucking uncomfortable. Perhaps those folks questioning Oden's injury should smash their own knees a couple of times with a bat, then run wind sprints for 20 minutes. This may give them some clarity.

They ought to come out, like they did with Webster, and publicly shut Oden down for the season. It's painfully obvious the guy wont be ready any time soon.

If only the NBA had a lemon law....

Ditto for message boards ...

What's up with the medical staff? They mishandled Blake's injury and Martell's injury. And now this....

sigh....

Let's just hope he's ready for the playoffs.

If he doesn't play the rest of the season, I'm not sure I want him in the playoffs. First of all, he would be out of sorts and set back from where he had been. And second of all, he could destroy the chemistry that the team will form over the next several weeks.

The good news? He isn't a basket case.

The not-so-good news? He appears to be injury prone. Get the dude some milk to strengthen those bones.

I'd want him in the playoffs. this is a long term thing, Oden needs experience.

Exactly. Why would you want to risk his long-term health for this years playoffs? If he plays on a less than 100% knee the risk factor is huge.

i don't know if its going to affect his long term health. if he's cleared to play, play him.

when i saw oden today i dont think he should even be walking on it really let alone jogging on it when i saw him you could tell he had a hitch in his step was kinda painful to watch.... but he could sure throw a bowling ball pretty far without doin much

Get well soon, big guy and don't get too down. We're pulling for you.

You've just earned an Ignore.

Mixum and Maris aren't even on my ignore list, however, your stupidity and unreasonable anti-odenism has reached such heights that I cannot read your drivel anymore.

Boo-hoo, he hurt your wheetlle feelings? :sigh:

Grow a pair.

P.S I've met Oden once, and he didn't seem "anti-social" at all. Seemed like a nice guy.

But the world wants to know... was he bowling by himself???

It's really sad what has become of Greg's career. Three injuries keeping him from playing. Unbelievable foul trouble. Underwhelming play. 4 pts 2 rebs vs the Thunder. Horrible. Of course, there have been glimpses of greatness (17/12/6 vs Knicks, 24/15 vs Bucks), but overall, he hasn't made much noise in the league. He was a #1 pick and he might not even make All Rookie Second Team.

Quick sat down with Oden a few weeks ago, when he quoted Oden as saying he was cleared and it was up to him when that would happen.

In other words, the team appears to have misled Greg about the severity of his injury, and KP allegedly saying it would be another 7-10 days last week really does make me question the team's motive behind comminicating this injury to both Greg and the public.

I don't know how much they've misled him. Most likely they told him it could take between 1-6 weeks to heal and that when he's ready to play he'd be the first one to know it. To reevaluate it every 7-10 days sounds normal. I'm sure no one thought it would take 6 weeks, but knew it could is all.

I don't know about unbelievable foul trouble. He's a rookie big man and it was expected. Add that he was out of shape so he's reaching more I don't think it's that big of a surprise.

You will come to find that most introverts are nice guys. It's the uneven expectations that extroverts place on the introvert that often lead to this silly misunderstanding.

To me the article was refreshingly good news. Given the timeline I think there's a very good chance he'll be ready to play by the end of this month. If so, that means he'll be ready for the playoffs. I'm very disappointed in the way the Blazers have handled this. They've known for some time that he could be out at least 6 weeks and they keep listing him as "day to day". WTF is up with that???

And the reiteration that he does not need surgery was good to hear as well...

Upon reading Quick's article this morning, I want to personally apologize to Greg for in any way accusing him of lack of heart, being soft, or having misguided priorities of any kind. Clearly, this injury is far more serious than I, or probably many of us, had thought.

I'm disappointed in the Blazers, though, for essentially being coy (IMO) on the issue. It's apparent to me that, in light of the seriousness of Greg's injury, we could/should have had updates with a bit more definitive content than they were willing to provide(?). Now I'm wonder if that nasty rumor was true...that they were hiding all this to keep the season ticket holders' base intact. I wonder when that renewal date was/is? Ahh, well, it is what it is. I'm just glad that Quick finally got to the meat of the matter.

Hey, get well soon, Greg. Again, I'm sorry for my lack of belief in you, big fella.

From Freeman's description, it has nothing to do with either Oden playing or (Freeman thought more likely) not playing. It'll just be one of those Quick "expose's" (that apostrophe is playing an accent) which will be a weird mixture of fawning and back-stabbing. Quick doesn't do facts he does feelings.

Can I make predictions or what?

Here is the epitome of "Quickness": he's like passive-aggressiveness in print:

Truth be told, he would rather scream, because he is fed up with it all. Fed up with the injuries, which prevent him from playing the game he insists he loves.

Translation "yeah, right!"

Fed up with the media, which have portrayed him as injury-prone and a bust.

Yes, damn that media, says Jason, looking around angrily to find it.

In Greg Oden's world, everything, and everyone, is seemingly against him.

Translation: "this guy is a psychopath, people."

I really do pity Oden. He has to give interviews with worms like Quick, because otherwise he'll get the Rasheed Wallace treatment. But when he does, he gets an amateur psychoanalysis and a projection of everything Quick wanted to say in the first place. Is there any wonder Rasheed has contempt for Quick?

In Jason Quick's world, he is a mixture of Sigmund Freud and Bob Woodward. Little does he realize that he's in fact a very crappy sportswriter with a hugely inflated sense of his own importance.

Get well Greg. I'll always stand by you. You're still young and have a long career ahead of you.

Exactly... of course there have been a lot of players who avoid JQ, which is the other half of the reason we get such crappy coverage of the team. I'm sure the utter contempt for him that the organization displayed during the PatterNash era still exists.

What particularly gets me is that his lazy smarmy jealous and typically negative speculations are often a baseline source for how other markets and the national media portrait the Blazers. This :smiley-muha: speculates, and then they turn around and say "As reported..."

STOMP

Destroy the chemistry? When he comes back, they should bring him off the bench. Channing doesn't seem like the type to bitch about PT and become a locker room cancer.

Joel can't play 48 minutes a game. Who would you rather have backing him up, Oden or Frye?

Bill Walton ate Cottage Cheese (a mile product) like crazy and it didn't help him. :devilwink:

What a refreshing post. The typical reaction here, to anything, is to crow about what a genius one is and how "I knew all along . . . blah blah blah."

Well done!

You will come to find that most introverts are nice guys. It's the uneven expectations that extroverts place on the introvert that often lead to this silly misunderstanding.

Yep. Extroverts try to dictate how introverts act, and introverts are judged accordingly. My oldest daughter is an introvert, and one thing we've learned is to work with her personality, and not against it. Introverts are also ideal for team sports since they will conform; a potential problem at a high level is that an introvert will never be a leader of extroverts.

Oden does seem to have many of the traits of an introvert. What people need to realize is that this is not a negative personality trait. This Quick article has brought me my own "revelation" about Oden, and it alleviates the concerns that I was having about his psyche. Now, let's just get the big fella healed and playing!

I was wrong to question Oden's heart. Great article by Quick, and I also want to thank Greg for opening up to Quick about these things.
