Racial chitstorm part II, the Mark Cuban edition

I dont view this as that big of an issue. Everyone profiles and has racist tendancies and that stems from society and where you were raised. That doesn't make you racist or bigot.
If you cant stand a certain race and be it in public or private you talk bad about that race or type of people, that makes you a racist.

In all seriousness, how do you react when I tell you that if I am alone at a time when there are not a lot of people around or open stores, and I see any male, I go out of my way to avoid him? If I see a group of males I might go all around the block. Color, clothing, tats do not matter. I am willing to bet someone here will call me sexist or paranoid. Or "not all men rape".

I understand that. So you clearly agree with Mark Cuban in saying we all have a little prejudice (or whatever you want to call it) in us?

Does that make you a bad person if you do? All day everyday people are judging situations/people and responding to their judgments.

I tend to think it does not. It keeps some people alive as well. Prejudice isn't an all encompassing evil word that most people think it is.

I think what Cuban said was fine, but probably bad timing.

I always assumed you had a little Captain in you.

That person would not be me. Again, better safe than sorry

No, I'm honestly just asking. Like, some people are making a big deal out of Cuban's comments. But I think we all are guilty of judging and acting on those judgments - a lot of people just can't admit it. Good for Cuban for being honest.

You can hear the difference in Sterling tapes, they are hateful. Not similar in any way what so ever.

I don't see what the big deal is.

"There is nothing more painful to me at this stage in my life than to walk down the street and hear footsteps and start thinking about robbery. Then look around and see somebody white and feel relieved.... After all we have been through. Just to think we can't walk down our own streets, how humiliating." Jesse Jackson 11/29/93

"That's all Hymie wants to talk about is Israel. Every time you go to Hymietown that's all they want to talk about." Jesse Jackson 1/25/84

Yeah same, I didn't mean to sound like I was picking you out. It was more of a general "you". :)

I'm sorry but you simply can't equate a Black guy in a hoodie with a guy with a shaved head and tattoos on his face Cuban... I think that's where the problem lies...

You're right. The black guy in the hoodie is statistically more likely to shoot, rob or assault Cuban than the tatted white guy. :MARIS61:

I'd walk on the other side of the street if i saw some Indians i didn't know coming toward me.

Oooh, where did these statistics come from exactly?

We were all raised in race biased, gender biased, class, heteronormative, "lookist" (for lack of better term) society. None of us are immune.

However, recognizing none of us are immune from prejudice is not an excuse to pander to it but to recognize it must be fought.

The minute White people as a whole understand the privilege it is to be White in our society, is the minute all this will start to get better.
Empathy is where it starts. White people will never understand what it is like to be followed when you are in a store just because you have your hands in your pockets...

Sounds awful. How do you survive with that sort of bigotry?

Instead of finding a quote from a Black guy saying something racist, why not just say racism is wrong?

Exactly. You'll never understand.

Edit: And it also seems you are unwilling to empathize.

You are perpetuating racism until you do....

I don't think what Cuban said is at all racist. Is it racial? Sure, but it's not racist.

Just like you're a racist for assuming things about me based on my skin color? I don't know a thing about you, other than you have some decent NBA takes at times. I'm just a Blazer fan.
