Not the Tanaka anyone wanted to see? Rust or the injury?

...I'm quite sure there was another MRI taken before Tanaka was allowed to pitch again.

If Tanaka does need surgery, the price tag on Scherzer just went up. Plus you know they will be in on Lester.

...as I've pointed out before, I think Scherzer should have taken the money he was offered by Detroit. Though he was good this year he did not have the year he had last year, based on just about any stat or metric you can find. I don't see him getting any more than Detroit offered considering Lester, Shields, et al, will also be available.

And as I had pointed out, it was a gamble he accepted. I like that attitude in a pitcher.

...of course it was a gamble he accepted, so what?...doesn't change the fact that it WAS a big gamble...and I'd be very surprised if he'll do better than the 6 years/$144 Mil the Tigers offered him.
...attitude is fine, but he's on the other side of 30 years of age...he's a good pitcher but he won't get Felix money and he certainly won't get Kershaw money. My guess is that he'll get somewhere around 5 years/$125 at the most.

...uhhh, I think it's pretty much common knowledge it was a gamble he accepted...doesn't change the fact that it WAS a big gamble...and I'd be very surprised if he'll do better than the 6 years/$144 Mil the Tigers offered him.

5/125 (25/yr) + 15.5 (2014)....so your saying the risk cost him 3.5? That can still be a better deal tax wise, say if he ends up pitching in Seattle or Texas.

Verlander has jumped the shark, Price isn't their for long, Tigers still start with their original offer. Way too much competition in the market otherwise.

...not understanding 3.5 thing, but regardless, his "gamble" was hoping for more money, not the same money. (original offer)...Tigers are paying Verlander $28 Mil for the next 5 years...and assuming he'll play for a no state income tax team is just that, an assumption. We can just as easily assume they'll lock Price up.
...and slice however you want, but the risk he took was a big one...he could have easily been injured during the year and then where would his contract leverage be then? You say you like his "attitude" because he took a gamble...I think the offer the Tigers gave him was more than fair.
...as far as the "market", the market is what it is and fluctuates depending on supply and demand like most commodities...and there are a few very good pitchers who will probably dilute the money normally offered...although the last one of them to sign may have some leverage...but the Boras factor has lost much of its perception of invincibility over the last few years...he doesn't scare people anymore.
