Rally to protest Rose Garden name change

Not cool with the rally being underwritten by a political entity, regardless of whether I agree or not.

What a bunch of pussies. A protest rally for 1 hour? That's it?

After the MODA center rally, the protesters will proceed to MODA's headquarters downtown, where they will demand the name of the company be changed back to ODS.

How about changing Moda to Rose Garden? Rose Garden is a better name for insurance than dumbass Moda.

The Oregonian usually grabs the leadership position in any issue critical of the Blazers. What an accidental memory lapse. They forgot to tell us about this event with liberal overtones.

Am I the only one who really doesn't care with the arena name change? I'm not going to be calling it the Moda Center and if the extra money it brings in is the tipping point in a decision to go deep into the luxury tax next year if we prove to be a better then expected team this year, then i'm all for it.

This just smells of someone trying to make a political point and thinking that fans are too stupid to see it.

I think whoever shows up to the rally should pay the Blazers the amount MODA is paying them, or shut the fuck up about it.

I don't like the new name, as I've made clear, and I've criticized it, but I don't begrudge the business decision. Actually protesting a company changing its name, or the name of its building? That just seems like an odd way to waste time and energy.

Like the MODA, do I.

Approve of your screen name, do I. You've turned a lemon into lemonade.

Said you should've,
Lemonade out of lemons, you have made.

How about we do something useful and protest to get the MC torn down so we can get a baseball stadium built and get the A's/Rays?

Out of all the problems in the world I'd consider protesting for this might rank dead last.

As lame as the new name is, this protest is even lamer.

But, it serves a purpose. It gives the the half dozen that show up a chance to feel good about themselves. Their voices will be heard! Their outrage will not be silenced!

Look, I'm not a big fan of the new name, but this protest has zero chance of changing anything. Contracts have been signed and money paid. The deal is done. Protesting now is a complete waste of time.

Maybe Moda will pay for the fountain and fireballs to be turned on again. What a waste of hardscape!

The protest is more about bringing to light that a medical insurance company is spending 40 million of their profits into this name rather than putting the money back into patient care or lower premiums. They are basically calling into question if for profit insurance companies are fair to all?

I got nothing against :Health Care for All Oregon, Portland Jobs with Justice Health Care Committee. I say let them have their rally, it's the American way . . . as long as it doesn't make me late to my seat for tip off. :)

Thanks for the clarification. The OP made it seem like they were protesting the name (I didn't read the link), but your post indicates they are protesting something entirely different. I had the same complaint when I first heard about "MODA's" sponsorship, since they are my health insurer.

I agree! And Chris McGowan said a large chunk of the $$ they are getting from the MODA deal will be reinvested back into the arena resulting in a better fan experience. It's just a name! I could care less.

They're not gonna change a damn thing, get over it. But seriously, the least they could do was call it the Moda Rose Garden. Motherbitches!
