Students shouldn't get left back just for the sake of getting left back. Unless you have some kind of illness, or whatever the case is. Just saying.

Too lazy to go to school? Or is it something personal? If it is, you don't have to answer.

Err...yes?

I did get left back one year, actually, but that was for...not good reasons.
But then I made up two years in a year after that. So I'm back on track now.
(Homeschooling helps when you want to speed things up.)

IDK I got sick a bunch of times that year, and my mom kept getting tired of bring me and my sisters to the doctor, cause the insurance payment kept getting higher. So we just stayed home, that was like 5years ago, and she still paying of the insurance money she owes.

Speaking of New Orleans music, anyone listen to Galactic?

I saw them at Tipitina's on Lundi Gras, where they played with a few guys like Charlie 2na (Jurassic 5) and Matisyahu from 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM, when Zulu started.

Here's a track from their new album featuring Juvenile and Soul Rebels Brass Band -

"Feret and Louisiana, camouflage bandana,
Around there I had to man up, Magnolia had to stand up..."

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Being hot at this stage in hip-hop isn't a good thing, but anywayz this all depends on what type of lifestyle you living and what you listen to for comfort. You live here to go to school and party(correct me if i'm wrong), and I can see why someone like you would like Wayne cause he makes party track and stuff like that. Some people here see the ugly stuff and live a bad lifestyle, in fact that's the majoriity of the people here live like that. So if you were to ask them who do you relate to they'll say Soulja Slim, B.G etc.</div>

I went to Tulane for three reasons - money, education, and basketball. I got into a lot of top 50 schools (starting out at UMich last year), but I couldn't afford any of them until Tulane came knocking with money and the possibility of a preferred walk-on option in early May. At that point, I wasn't even thinking college because I couldn't afford anywhere else. I couldn't even afford UWisconsin on a half-ride.

I didn't even think about the New Orleans party culture until I got down there either. Believe me, I know all sides of New Orleans now though. It's not like I stayed in the New Orleans bubble all year round, and New Orleans is like nowhere else in the deep south because it's not segregated. You go from a nice neighborhood to the projects and then back in minutes. But I know what you mean about music that you can relate to, and yeah, I do relate more to the party side of New Orleans, hence why I love Wayne. It brings back good memories of good times. But even in Memphis, I don't live in a nice area, and we all listen to Mr. Sche, Al Kapone, etc. while the nation listens to Three Six Mafia, and that pisses a lot of us off, but we all still listen to Three Six when we're cuttin' loose.

I need a new band to listen to. Something from the 60's thats similar to King Crimson.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Chutney @ Jun 19 2008, 10:18 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>I need a new band to listen to. Something from the 60's thats similar to King Crimson.</div>

Hmm... similar to King Crimson... that's a hard one man. If Sasha were still around, he'd have a great rec on that. The only ones I can think of are the obvious ones like Pink Floyd, and even they're not KC.

Maybe Mr. Bungle? They were a 90's band, but they still sound more like KC than most bands from the 60's. As for 60's psychedelia (not progressive like King Crimson, but similar in a lot of ways) would be bands like Chocolate Watchband, Fifty Foot Hose, and Strawberry Alarm Clock.

Mr. Bungle -

This is a fan-made video, so I'd just play the audio. They're progressive, they're definitely out there, and their music is still choice.

You guys remember that injury to Shaun Livingston? Well that happened today to my friend at a baseball game. Luckily nothing was torn but the knee cap was the same as Livingston's. That was some nasty stuff.

You mean like when Vince Carter got frustrated and tackled the ref in a team USA game against Autralia leaving the ref injured? That was pretty insane. I spent the last few minutes looking for the clip on Youtube, but every time I found the clip on there or another streaming video website, it was removed by either the user or the website. Go figure. It's almost like Carter or the league were trying to cover it up. This is sort of off topic, but I feel like a lot of confrontations in the NBA go unreported and are quickly hidden by the league, the universities, or the players. For example, I can't find the clip of Chris Paul giving Julius Hodge a low-blow anymore, and I never even saw a clip of Lorenzen Wright hitting Zaza Pachulia in the face after seeing it live.
</div>

That's some pretty fascinating stuff VC, you may be on to something.</div>

I was talking with Run about this, and we were recalling how many altercations we've seen live that never made it to the news, highlights, etc., and there's a ridiculous amount. I used to go to just about every Grizzlies' game when they first moved to town, and I'd see altercations and fights all the time. I even saw Tony Massenburg make Shaq back down, haha. A lot of that stuff seems swept under the rug, and I'm sure a lot of people who follow basketball as religiously as we all do can relate. With the reff'ing scandal and whatnot, why not theorize that the league, which is always desparate to improve their image in the media, tries really hard to cover these things up?

BTW - Did anyone else see David Letterman diss the Grizz for like 10 minutes improv last night?

<div><object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value=""></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350" /></embed></object></div>

That bit went on throughout the whole show.

He ever referenced it in the Allen/Garnett interview - 7:38 - "Now here's what it's like... uh, I think, having never played professional basketball... er... at least in this country... although I did play for the Grizzlies for a while."

<div><object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value=""></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350" /></embed></object></div>

That's a great interview by the way. Allen has a pretty heartfelt response to his kid's illness, and Garnett keeps twitching like he's still hyped about the win. Well that, and he probably hasn't slept much since, so who can blame him?

Yeah, I know exactly what you're talking about. I remember being able to go anywhere to see Yinka Dare's NBA fight videos - now, I can't find them anywhere (except on my hard drive).

Right now, I have Miller vs. Kobe; Yinka Dare NBA fights vol. I, II and III; Miller vs. Jordan; and Top 10 Fights of All Time (ESPN).

The Vince Carter thing is on Yinka Dare NBA fights vol. II. Pretty sick. He actually shoved the dude over, made him fall on his arm. It shows a couple guys taking the ref away, while he's holding his arm.

And before that, it shows a sequence where VC takes a shot, and the European player falls on him, seemingly trying to purposely foul Vince. Vince then grabs the guy, flips him over onto the floor, gets up, and stands over him and yells in his face. Then, some other guy gets up in his face, and he starts pushin him away and yelling at him, while Kidd is dragging him away. Quite entertaining, actually. Not gonna lie, I love watching those NBA fights videos.

About the Vince Carter and the ref issue, I thought that was on accident? Wasn't he running back on defense and accidently ran into the ref?

Maybe I'm talking about something else...

It was probably reported that way, but the way we got on the topic was this clip in the "other baseball" forum of a high school pitcher and catcher allegedly conspiring to nail an umpire in the face with a pitch. You could make the same claim for that pitch being accidental, but after knowing the circumstances leading up to the incident and watching it on film, you might draw a different conclusion. For me, it's the same way for Carter. He was frustrated that whole game and was getting into it with the refs about a bad call just prior to knocking the guy down. It could have been an accident, but it also could have very well been premeditated. I think it's up to the viewer to make the call on that one.

Yeah, you could say that.

It's not done uploading yet! I told you at 12, 2 and a half hours!

I remember being so excited about VC that summer. The Toronto media criticized him for some of the stuff he did, but I just thought it was awesome to see him play with an edge. It's too bad he could only sustain it for that one year.
