re: Rudy - Options Out There, Nothing Pending (Smith Twitter)

Who says we have to find minutes for Rook's?

Call me naive but I believe if we are rolling over teams with our first unit, and Rudy can lead the charge with a second unit (less pressure) I think Rudy can be happy until we find a trade that really works

And I think purple unicorns fart rainbows and bigfoot is real ... we can believe all sorts of things in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary if we try hard enough.

I think Portland promised him more than the coach or whoever was able to give him and this makes Portland look bad. Rudy does have agents that talk. Just my opinion.

I think if Rudy had proven that he had a game consisting of more then 3 pt shots, goofy fade-aways, and moon balls in the key (with the occasional alley-oop his rookie year), that the coach would have been able to utilize him better. Skinny SGs with no handles have a very limited role in the NBA.

Everyone to their own opinions.

At the same time, the teams goal is to make the team better, and not to make any of our competition better.

Well, if the team is trying to get Rudy in a better situation because they agree with him that Portland's promises to him to lure him over were not 100% kept, the team is going to look at it from a different value perspective.

My main point though is how does shipping Rudy to NY help the competition? Since when is NY anybody's competition? If we ship Rudy to Houston, Denver, Utah, OKC, etc., then I see your point. But NY? Let him go there.

According to a Twitter message from Madrid-based sportswriter Francisco Rabadan, swingman Rudy Fernandez wants the Portland Trail Blazers to deal him to an Eastern Conference team, though he would not specify whether the Chicago Bulls were among his preferred destinations. Here’s the original message:

he hablado con rudy esta mañana. no sabe nada de su posible traspaso a chicago, pero me da una pista: “el este me parece muy atractivo”

According to my very basic Spanish education, that translates to:

I spoke with Rudy this morning. He doesn’t know anything about his possible trade to Chicago, but he gave me a clue: “the East seems very attractive to me.”

Yesterday, our own Ben Golliver noted that “nothing is imminent” with regard to Fernandez winding up in Chicago. And Al Yellon followed up with a report that said Portland and Chicago might strike a deal by Monday. But with the Knicks signing Roger Mason and the Celtics running out of money and roster spots, Chicago appears to be the most likely destination for Fernandez, if Portland can stomach receiving only combo forward James Johnson and potentially a draft pick in return for their reserve shooting specialist.

It will be very interesting to see just what kind of drama unfolds if the team can't move him before the start of training camp.

I'm guessing he will ruin his trade value if we don't move in a couple of weeks max. He has probably heard rumors about where he might go and if it all goes dead, he will probably start talking about demanding a trade or not coming back to Portland and ruin any value we have to move him. If we can get a 1st round pick, we should move on it. Just my opinion.

yep, even if it is lotto protected. There really isn't any reason to bring back a player on a similar contract, IMO.

Take Sheed + a draft pick and do a proper retirement party for him. ;)

Think of it as the 60s sex, drugs and rock'n'roll.

Chou-en-Lai's Cultural Revolution?

A simpler reason is that we have 8 guards and 2 must go.

How wide is the value-chasm between Johnson and Gibson? These appear to be the only actual names bandied about out there.

I, and I think many others around here, hear Rudy bitching about the Blazers and wanting to be traded, and our reaction is 'fuck rudy, I hope he rots on our bench'. But then I take a step back and look at it from his perspective. The situation is different then with other players.

Let's suppose that Matthews in two years was pissed that he was not starting and demanded a trade. Well, I would be pissed more in this situation because the Blazers were the only team that was willing to pay him his big contract and showed a lot of faith in him. If Wes turned his back on the Blazers after that, I would think he was a douche and not repaying the team who believed in him and paid him more that anyone else would.

But with Rudy, we have a player who turned down substantially more money to come play for the Blazers. He was drafted here and did not have a choice of teams, only if he wanted into the NBA or not. So he pays out of his current contract and takes a lot less money to come and play for the Blazers with a supposed promise that he will be a huge part of the future of the team. a couple years pass and he plays a minor roll and is being utilized very differently then what he believes is optimal for his abilities. So now he is 5-10 million poorer, far away from his home, he believes the team he is playing for has lied to him, being used sporadically and his once golden name in Europe is being tarnished.

I think I understand why Rudy demands a trade.

Only a moron would trade Rudy.

When Miller has his Choad fire Nate later this year, the new coach will easily find big minutes for Rudy and the team will be far better for it.

You seem upset at pretty much every Blazer decision-maker. Given the state of the team (young, good)... why?

I mean... I know you'd hitched yourself to Sergio, but... he's gone. He's not very good and the Blazers were right to dump him. Why do you hold it against the Blazers for your error?

Wow - a voice of reason. Well put.

I wonder if the Blazers are secretly glad that the Knicks are signing Mason, the Celtics Von Wafer and the Bulls Bogans. Now they can say to Rudy: "sorry, the teams on your (alleged) list just didn't value you. I mean, not giving up a pick? Not giving up Taj fucking Gibson? You're worth more than THAT, right Rudy?" and that could placate him enough to at least start the year with Portland. (I know the majority of this board seems to want to dump him for nothing, but that would be a mistake. I still think the right move would be to reunite him with a PG who can work with him. Bayless is a hopeless match for him in the backcourt - if I were Rudy _I'd_ be pissed off at having to play alongside Bayless - Rudy's been trained to be selfless, but you know you're not getting the ball back if you give it to Bayless. Meanwhile Bayless can say, hey, at least I was productive in the playoffs...
I wonder if the Raptors would go for a Bayless + Przybilla for Calderon trade? I mean, Calderon is probably a worse defender than Sergio, but he can shoot.

Whenever I watch Rubio play he reminds me of a player who is all flash and no substance. Almost like a gimmick player.

You know, I always got that from watching Adam Morrison in college. And hey, I was right!

Probably that he doesn't trust your judgment of NBA prospects.

Ed O.

I'm not alone in messing up on judging NBA prospects.

I'd say my track record aside from Morrison has been pretty good. The Morrison hype was based more on my homerism of all things Gonzaga.

If I remember correctly there was a 'draft the stache' rally that was attended by quite a few people.
