Just listened to Barret on the BFT: Essentially he said (but tried not to say):

* Ruffin is part one of a two part trade.

* Blazers now have $15 million in Raef, and Ruffin trade exception, also
covered by insurance

* Ruffin would be less expensive to buy out in a "multi-part trade"

* There is lots of smoke out there and the deal is something no one would see
coming

$15 million.. who is it??

Is this the greatest time of year or what?

15m looks like the ballpark range of a guy named Carter.

As long as it doesn't disrupt the big three, and improves our Defense, I'll be excited!

That's exactly what I'm thinking. Something is coming, and probably before the game tonight or tomorrow.

Canzano, saying he talked to Pritchard, disagrees, stating for a trade exception. Although this could still be used.

It's confusing now because Canzano said the TE can't be used in combination with RLEC after he spoke with KP.

Last minute posturing and using Canzano to spread disinformation?

Why? Is it because that contract is covered by insurance? That's hardly the Blazers' fault.

Even if that's true, you can trade twice with one team in 2 separate deals yes?

I hope this is true. VC is somebody we would see coming in a trade. Maybe someone like Rudy Gay or somebody that hasn't been mentioned in rumors.

Ceeee peeee threeeeeeeeeee!

Rudy Gay gets paid roughly 1/6th of 15m. I highly doubt we would be raising our "cost cutting pieces" for a guy who gets paid around 2.5m a year.

The TE can't be combined with RLEC for salary-matching purposes. What Portland can do is trade RLEC and other players for whomever they are interested in and, as an incentive, send the TE to that same team, as part of the same deal, for some $2.5-2.9 million clutter.

The TE can not be used with another player in a deal.

That is the correct information.

That doesn't sound right. Can anyone back this up?

There are several posts about it in the Ruffin thread.

A traded player exception cannot be combined with any other player or exception in an atomic transaction.

We could not take the RLEC and combine it with the TPE we just got to get a single player that we could not afford without using the TPE.

We could, though, trade RLEC for a contract and the TPE for another one.

Ed O.

A trade that nobody saw coming. We have the most valuable trade asset in the League.

We can rule out:

* Vince Carter
* Gerald Wallace
* Richard Jefferson

The anticipation is making me utterly useless at work. I'm sitting here pretending to concentrate really hard at the computer screen like I'm doing work...but I'm here.....refreshing the site....refresh...refresh....refresh....

Read my post above yours. It can be, just not for salary-matching purposes. It can still be used as an incentive part of the deal to save the other team money.

Gay plus somebody. I just mentioned his name because I couldn't think of anybody else that wasn't in a rumor and we would be surprised. It could be anybody.

Makes sense then. It'd be two separate deals but look like one really.

I guess Amare. The buzz has completely died around him over the past few days.

this is the equivalent of watching a dog chase its own tail. you just get'em spinning and sit back and laugh.

Canzano is being fed a line of BS from the Blazers. He just said the Blazers saw a big deal going down with the Bulls/Kings and swooped in with Ike to grab a piece of it. For this to be true, someone in one of those organizations would have had to clue in the team to this deal. What a crock.

The team also told Canzanon that the TE can't be used with the RLEC. Well, that doesn't mean it can't be used in a separate trade with the same team, does it?
