As I said previously, I just can't take any information that KP gave Canzano as literal.

Yeah, I don't know if Canzano had real information. But the story itself isn't implausible. And while KP could be misleading Canzano, I don't see a motive, since he's talking about a done deal, rather than what he plans to do.

so a deal is done?

What's the name of our financial guru? Tom Penn? I sense his influence in this deal for Ruffin.

The wheels are turning, my friends. Something big is going on, and I love it!

Yep.

Trail Blazers Acquire Forward Michael Ruffin

Three-Way Trade with Sacramento and Chicago Sends Ike Diogu to Kings

PORTLAND, Ore. – As part of a three-way trade with Sacramento and Chicago, the Portland Trail Blazers have acquired forward Michael Ruffin from Chicago in exchange for forward Ike Diogu, who is sent to Sacramento, General Manager Kevin Pritchard announced today.

Trail Blazers also gain a $3 million trade exception, which they can use for one calendar year.

“We want to thank Ike for his time with the Trail Blazers, and hopefully this trade will give him an opportunity to play more minutes in Sacramento,” said Pritchard. “This move will give us trade flexibility going forward with the $3 million trade exception we gained in the deal.”

An eight-year veteran, Ruffin, 32, averaged 1.8 points and 4.0 rebounds in 403 career games with Chicago, Philadelphia, Utah, Washington and Milwaukee. He has not appeared in a game for Chicago this season.

Diogu, 25, played in 19 games for Portland this season, averaging 1.4 points and 0.9 rebounds in 3.8 minutes per game. He was acquired by the Trail Blazers from the Indiana Pacers along with the draft rights to Jerryd Bayless on July 9, 2008. Diogu has posted averages of 5.9 points and 3.0 rebounds in 177 games during his four-year NBA career.

In the few minutes I linked to Canzano after this thead was posted, I heard him saying that this was the only deal that would be done, and he basically insinuated that he received this information from KP. It's a far leap from talking about a done deal to then saying it is the only deal, but that's what Canzano just did. So my responses in this thread have been posted with Canzano's editorial comments in mind. ;)

Ahh. Okay.

With the possible Ruffin move (trade exception) I see three teams as strong possible trade partners:

Bucks (as I've posted in the past - both Jefferson and Villanueva coming our way)

Wizzards (as I've posted in the past - both Jamison and Butler coming our way)

Nets (Vince / scrubs)

However I'm intrigued with a combination of both Smith & Bibby (Atl) coming our way!

I don't see a trade with Memphis happening -

I'm not so hyped on a Nets package (IMHO) -

I'm not a Bibby fan - but would love to have Smith, and Bibby adds some veteran PG leadership for a run -

I love to dream about a CP3 scenario - but a dream is a dream!

So the Bucks as a trading partner is looking like a possibility to me. We'd be obtaining Jefferson for a couple years and we'd be renting Villanueva - - but if he fit, and liked being with PDX, he may see fit to re-sign with the Blazers for a reasonable salary.

PS: I'm typically disappointed come the trade deadline (year after year) but man, you just gotta love these last 24 hours - each and every year! Too much fun!

This is new b\c I checked that exact same article a few times today and this proposal was not on it....

and IMO, this seems to fit with what has "apparently" been going on b\t NJ & POR....

From everything I have read, Thorn has been asking for a LOT in return for Vince Carter & change (Stro Swift and K.Dooling)....

Raef, Outlaw, Sergio, Rights to Koponen and a 2009 1st rounder...It was speculated that KP didn't want to give up a 2009 1st and countered with 2 2009 2nds and a 2010 or future 1st.....

What if this was the compromise? POR gives up the 2009 1st, but gets CDR (who I like) and Ager instead of washed up Stro Swift and Dooling?

It is a possibility...and IMO makes the prospect of giving all that up for Carter a little more palatable....
CDR would be a pretty good fit, a nice 2/3 prospect. Would be a nice fill in for a few minutes until Webster comes back, but I think he could start to get some PT in a year or two. I'm pretty sure he did fairly well when he got PT this season.

One more possibility:

Knicks:

Bring in Nate Robinson (to play with Roy again) and Lee.

I'll just throw this out there, not sure if it makes sense financially or not. Part of what was holding a Butler deal off was the ability to take back Etan Thomas, just like the ability to take back Nazir Mohammed was limiting the Charlotte deal. It could be a piece in order to make it work, or to sweeten the deal so we don't have to take the bad contract back. No idea at this point.

All I know is if the only deal we made is for Ruffin, I am going to laugh at that.

Wow, talk about expectations.

Let me pour some cold water on your hot fantasies:

The Blazers are NOT obtaining:

Chris Paul
Jamison AND Butler
Smith AND Bibby
Jefferson AND Villenueva

Based on your post I can guarantee you will badly disappointed by any trades the Blazers make.

real gm says we are battling with the cavs for jefferson lol

real gm says new trade deal in discssions for carter

both are from the same yahoo article lol

so lets recap....yahoo says we are very much active....ford says talks are quiet or dying, barrett says its part of a bigger deal and canzano says kp said no deal will happen. is that right?

Nice work partner.

I think there is a trade coming but none of those. Maybe RJ but probably not and definitly not VC. I think when you hear KP say there is no more trades coming we for sure will be making a trade. Bank on it!

Things that make you go hmmm.

Yea and then I had another thought that makes you go Hmmmm. They said it would come out of left field. For some reason, that made me think of Chris Bosch. We haven't been mentioned in the running for him, but it is well known he is going to opt out. Chances of moving him were small, but it is known that Toronto wants to move him.

And what do you know..

http://www.realgm.com/src_checktrade.php?tradeid=5025889

It works.

IF we're packaging up RLEC and the trade exception, and we only get ONE player back, there's only ONE player that makes sense.

Raef's contract is 12.722 million. Multiply that by 125% and add 100k...that's roughly 16 million we could have taken back in a trade. So the player we're targeting...assuming it's just one player, must make more than 16 million. Otherwise, we could just do the deal without the trade exception.

I haven't yet heard what the trade exception is, but lets say it's 2 million...

12.722 million for RLEC plus 2 for the TE x 125% plus 100k...equals 18.5 million.

The only players in the league making between 16 and 18.5 million

Shawn Marion - just got traded, not coming here.
Rashard Lewis - Orlando is doing too well to shake up the roster like that.
Ray Allen or Paul Pierce - both on the Celtics, not going to happen.
Dirk Nowitzki - hmmmm

Is Dirk untouchable? I don't think so. Not with his contract and the way Dallas is playing. Mark Cuban has lost a TON of money lately in the stock market. (Hey...who hasn't, but Cuban seems like it's really hurt him) The could really be in rebuild mode, considering how awful the Kidd trade shook out. They'd have a TON of cap space if they get rid of Dirk and if we tossed them a little young talent, it could be something they'd go for. I think there's actually a legit chance that this happens.

Rashard Lewis... now why didn't I think of that before. I think he makes perfect sense.

Woah...if that happened it would make the Gasol deal look like a fair trade. :D

It is a possibility too...but I just don't see them taking that big a piece away from their lineup. Maybe...

Yea I don't see that one. They really like what they are getting from Lewis there.
