It is a possibility too...but I just don't see them taking that big a piece away from their lineup. Maybe...

If Portland sent back Outlaw and Sergio and sweetner, it'd give them a 3/4 (which they would need without Lewis), and a PG (which they need with Nelson out).

Yeah, it's risky, but Lewis is ridiculously expensive. It would make sense to see him traded over Turkoglu.

Yea I don't see that one. They really like what they are getting from Lewis there.

He's still overpaid, though. Given the economy and the Chandler deal yesterday, I wouldn't be surprised to see it go down.

IF we're packaging up RLEC and the trade exception, and we only get ONE player back, there's only ONE player that makes sense.

Raef's contract is 12.722 million. Multiply that by 125% and add 100k...that's roughly 16 million we could have taken back in a trade. So the player we're targeting...assuming it's just one player, must make more than 16 million. Otherwise, we could just do the deal without the trade exception.

I haven't yet heard what the trade exception is, but lets say it's 2 million...

12.722 million for RLEC plus 2 for the TE x 125% plus 100k...equals 18.5 million.

The only players in the league making between 16 and 18.5 million

Shawn Marion - just got traded, not coming here.
Rashard Lewis - Orlando is doing too well to shake up the roster like that.
Ray Allen or Paul Pierce - both on the Celtics, not going to happen.
Dirk Nowitzki - hmmmm

Is Dirk untouchable? I don't think so. Not with his contract and the way Dallas is playing. Mark Cuban has lost a TON of money lately in the stock market. (Hey...who hasn't, but Cuban seems like it's really hurt him) The could really be in rebuild mode, considering how awful the Kidd trade shook out. They'd have a TON of cap space if they get rid of Dirk and if we tossed them a little young talent, it could be something they'd go for. I think there's actually a legit chance that this happens.

Doesn't work that way. The TE can't be added to Raef's salary to make a trade work that wouldn't otherwise.

I think the Magic, like many teams, are planning on getting the extra revenew from a long playoff run. One of the reasons I heard the Blazers were planning on making a deal was because of this. If you pick up a player that guarantees a playoff birth, and then if you happen to drive deep into the playoffs, it drives your revenews way up. You can easily more than make up any additional salary taken on.

As noted by others, RLEC and the TE can't be combined. Also, who says we only get one player back?

Raef's contract is 12.722 million. Multiply that by 125% and add 100k...that's roughly 16 million we could have taken back in a trade. So the player we're targeting...assuming it's just one player, must make more than 16 million. Otherwise, we could just do the deal without the trade exception.

The $16 mil is the max the Blazers could take back without including other players. They could work a deal with Raef's contract and take back salaries anywhere in the range of roughly $10 mil to $16 mil. They can also include other players to increase the trade value.
