Others will disagree but I think Rangers make at least ECF if they land in Atlantic....
 
Isles are trying to lose now. Funny.

Oh well maybe Pitts goaltending will implode again and Philly can pound the Caps in a 7 game series to wear them down.
 
I agree Dis. I think it was ECF at least if we were in the Atlantic bracket. Shame it won't happen.

I think we'll lose to the Pens in 5 or 6 now. The only caveat I will throw in there is if MAF cannot play and they go with inexperienced backups, but I doubt that is the case.

Hey...at least we won the last meaningless game...LOL. There is no doubt the Isles coaches said what are you guys doing...we need to lose this game. Since it was 2-0 Isles the Flyers have dominated. This is what we should have done yesterday. Seriously doubt the Isles give two sh*ts about going into the playoffs with 2 straight L's. For some odd reason we seemed to be concerned with that.
 
I agree on Pitt and I hope I'm wrong. The Atlantic is light years weaker especially w Florida's youth and all of Tampas injuries.

That's how you throw a game. The Isles have 11 shots through two periods. Maybe 5 or 6 shots since they took a 2-0 lead and Capuano said WTF guys we need to lose this one. Doesn't appear they care that much about losing two straight into the playoffs. I know some of our fans were VERY concerned about that.
 
Isles tanking will not help them in playoffs.
 
The 3rd Flyer goal showed me everything I needed to see. Nobody even tried to cover anyone.

Caged I'm sure the Isles would rather play 15-1 Pitt team and the Prez Trophy Caps over Panthers/Wings/Bolts

Still gotta play the series but tanking absolutely benefits them
 
The Isles are going to find out exactly how good Florida is. Be thankful if we don't end up with them. Plus TB even w/o Stamkos always gives the Rangers a hard time.

You can't be serious SC?? It's no cake walk playing Florida but they aren't that great.
 
They're better than i think you guys are giving them credit for. Maybe i'll be dead wrong but i just see it as a tougher matchup. Sure they have some playoff inexperience but i think their youth will give the older, slower Rangers more problems than Pitt will.
 
For the third year in a row it looks like Pittsburgh it is. What's done is done. Lets get it started.
 
LOL...anyone will give the Rangers problems especially when you have Girardi, Staal and Boyle on your defense.
 
Well of course Florida could win. I just think it's obvious it's an easier path.....as do the Islanders with this thrown game today.

He is serious Dis. Still hasn't given a real reason other than saying the Panthers are a better offensive team, even though the numbers show they are not.

Again it is nonsensical and this clear tank by the Isles shows that. They were smart enough to say wait we win and we play the hottest team in the NHL, with one of the best players in the NHL on the team, and we are also in the same bracket with the Caps. And if we lose we play the totally unproven and inexperienced Panthers, and we are also away from the Caps? Is this a trick question...LOL.

Only our fans would even try and make it a question mark which team would you rather play.

And to me the Isles clearly throwing this game answers the question for anyone who isn't sure.

With that said...it is what it is. Get ready for the Pens. I don't think we'll win the series, but all you can do is hope for the best and play the games.
 
Only way Rangers win this series against Pitt is if they can somehow revert back to the beginning of the season form. Outside of that, even if MAF doesn't play or has a shaky series, this team isn't solid enough to win more than 2 games.
 
And to beat a team 3 straight years in the playoffs is VERY difficult...don't kid yourselves. That is a huge factor here as well. The Pens will use that as extra motivation for sure, just like any of us would do if we were in that locker room.

They are solid enough to go to ECF if they played in other bracket.

Pitt is a terrible matchup for them compared to Florida not even mentioning avoiding Caps til ECF. I do think the Pitt series goes 6/7.

I hope I'm wrong will be rooting hard to beat Pitt and hopefully Philly gives Wash a series too
 
71, you make it sound like Pitt is a slow team. Since trading for Hags, I'd say they're the fastest team in the east now. To think that they're old and slow is ridiculous when our team is older and slower. Pitt has a LETHAL offense and a decent defense and decent in goal if MAF stays out of his own head. The rangers are awful defensively, awful offensively and all that awful play has worn Hank out and I don't see him stealing this series for us like he has in the past.
 
It will come down to D IMO. If we don't play D against the Pens they will smoke us. We have got to be tight in front of our own net.

My guess is we'll see Staal/Klein against Crosby and Yandle/Girardi against Hags/Kessel as the top 4. If we don't defend better than we have for a long while we'll be f'd.

And it certainly wouldn't hurt if McD can be back for game 3 or 4. And if Malkin isn't back at all (although I think he'll be back game 4 or 5). And if MAF is out that would be a big boost as well.

I applaud the Isles. They knew to win would be 100% moronic, and after they went up 2-0 they literally stopped playing. VERY smart move by Capuano. If you guys want to get on AV for something, get on him for winning yesterday. Dumb.
 
You are comical 94...and I'll leave it at that. We are the most awful team offensively and defensively to ever get 100 points. Laughable.
 
Florida has basically been scoring the same amounts per game as Pitt has, and around the net their big forwards will kill the Rangers. Look, i'm not saying the Pens will be easy or that the Rangers should even be favored but i honestly think the Panthers have a better roster overall. If Fleury and Malkin miss a few games that maybe tilts it even in the Rangers favor. And don't think for a second recent playoff history dosen't play into it in the back of their heads.
 
Great game by Isles. Came out win period 1 scored a couple goals to build confidence then pulled Greiss stopped skating stopped playing defense and even playing basic offensive hockey.....and lost on purpose.

I'm sure they are terrified by the Panthers and avoiding the Prez Trophy Caps until ECF.

You think Pens in 6/7. I think Pens in 5/6. Going to be a crazy tough series for us to win this year. Hope we are both wrong...:).
 
Wonder if MAF plays.

I never pick against the Rangers with this core but I hate this matchup
 
You really think Capuano made them tank this one. I don't believe that at all. I think they'd actually rather face Pitt.

You realize that 100 points isn't all it's cracked up to be anymore, right Chuck? With the new point structure, it's not that hard to be an average team and get points. And yea, we are awful offensively (8th but we all have agreed that we are bad offensively) and defensively (15th overall and only Detroit is worse than us and in the playoffs and countless defensively lapses and games where we give up almaot 40 shots a game plus one of the worst PK units) and the stats show that. But don't let that get in your way.
 
1000000000000% they threw that game...not even a chance they didn't. After it was 2-0 Isles they shut everything down. Had 10 or 11 shots the last 50 minutes of the game.

VERY smart by Capuano.

Again it was an obvious choice...and he did the extremely smart thing. Good for him and the Isles.

We'll see what the Pens have starting Wednesday night.
