Carmelo Anthony spent most of the offseason saying he’d waive his no-trade clause for only the Rockets.

But as training camp neared and Anthony faced returning to the Knicks, he expanded his list to include the Thunder and Cavaliers.

Just how badly did Anthony want to leave the Knicks?

Marc Berman of the New York Post:

Sources say Anthony would have allowed the Knicks to deal him to Portland if the Knicks struck out with the other three.

Apparently, the Trail Blazers’ recruitment almost worked. Of course, the Knicks traded Anthony to Oklahoma City. But this report raises a couple questions:

How many teams would have Anthony approved in a trade? He obviously preferred to leave the Knicks, but he also had reasons to stay in New York. We now know Anthony preferred at least four teams to the Knicks, but how long is that list? Twenty-nine teams?

Did the Knicks err by sending Anthony to Oklahoma City? Maybe the Trail Blazers would’ve never beaten the Thunder’s offer (the Bulls’ 2018 second-round pick, Enes Kanter and Doug McDermott). But if New York had played hardball, it could have at least brought Portland into a bidding war.

See, that WAS him in that blurry airport picture? Remember the one I posted that almost made a bunch of people quit? Remember, I can post a link if you want.

The Melo-Drama never ends.

And the article makes it sound like Portland is some sort of barometer for how desperately Melo wanted off the Knicks. Sheesh!
How badly did Anthony want off the Knicks? So badly, that he would've willingly gone to Portland. OMG!

Not really I would still love to have Melo over Harkless. Melo would hit wide open 3s all day that he would have gotten being a starter with us. Harkless is trash

He would have to make a lot of threes to make up for his trash defense. It’s not an either or situation. The Blazers need to upgrade their SF talent, but Carmelo would have just been a short term expensive patch, not a long term fix.

We still need him, even more than in August.

I felt at the time that Knicks could get deal for Harkless if they wanted. It was between him and Kanter and they took Kanter. We'd be better than we are now if we had Melo instead of Harkless. Sucks it didn't work out.

Eh, I think on our team I'd prefer a healthy Aminu over Carmello, just for fit and lack of drama. If Chief doesn't get injured he's our starting SF right now, and I think we'd have a significantly better record.

The basketball equivalent of "Of course I'll go to the dance with you if all other perspective dates die the day of the Prom. It would be better than staying home and lighting the house on fire, Elephant Boy!"

That didn't make anyone quit son, you you can stop feeling bad. You can relax and go play with your legos now.

I'm so done with this Melodrama...nothing good has come of it. We didn't get Melo which us maybe a good thing, but now Harkless is pouting because he didn't get traded to New York and won't put any effort in for us.

This is just speculation imo. I’m not a big Harkless fan, but to be fair, his body language is no different than before. He’s just not playing well.

Harkless is a much better defender, and just as good of a shooter as Carmelo, trading him for Carmelo would be a travesty. /Dviss

this thread will break the record of the other Melo thread....Sly just wanted in on some of that action!....it will morph into multiple unrelated subjects and several long arguments ........

Imagine all these good looking shots for Dame CJ and Nurkic if Melo would play for us. Portlands offense would be so much better with him

In other news whiteside would of chose us if he didn’t resign with Miami. Blah blah blah

So, were like the fat, ugly 4th bridesmaid that everyone makes fun of until they've had way too much to drink and have already been shot down by bridesmaids 1 - 3.

In other words, we're the Melissa McCarthy of the NBA.

I think we are more like the girl working swing shift at Subway down the street and across the tracks from the wedding.
