Re: Millsap offer official now. Sent to Utah.

What do you mean?

The whole point of a lopsided trade is that one side has enough money to absorb the difference in salary (with the standard percentage buffers). A team being a single buck under the salary cap doesn't mean they can take on whatever salary they want via lopsided trades.

Ed O.

At the same time, if you were a struggling franchise, and had a chance to pick up a star level player like Boozer that might start setting your franchise straight, why not pull the trigger and start the move. Then you would have Boozer, Gay, OJ Mayo and Conley with Marc Gasol. That team might make a big jump in the W-L column, and help turn that franchise around.

Re: Millsap offer official now. Sent to Utah.

did the blazers get an injury exception for oden? i don't think they did.

i really don't understand the decision to essentially give the rockets a 2nd mle because yao is hurt, especially when it doesn't rule out the possibility of yao playing this year and can be used for more than a one year contract.

Mutombo also went down. The next tallest guy on their team is 6'9" (unless ariza is taller) Yao is NOT playing this year. The best case scenario is something like 9 months. Some other surgeries may take as long as 3 years, and this is the same injury he's had before, which may mean he is DONE.

you know, the bulls just signed Pargo, and Rose is clearly their future. Does this mean they are going to be more likely to move heinrich?

Jazz have the money to extend Okur? What?

mutumbo is no longer under contract so he has no bearing on the situation.

you can say that yao isn't playing this year if you want to make that declaration. however, the possibility of yao playing this season has not been ruled out by yao, the rockets, or the nba. i think at the very least if you get an injury exception for a player, they shouldn't be able to come back and play that season.

Why wouldn't they. He opted in two weeks ago for this upcoming year with the discussion that Utah would give him an extension beyond that.

I STILL can't find a corroborating source that an offer has in fact been signed by, or even offered to, Milsap.
one would think KP would be in the know about such things as an offer made to Millsap that Quick is "reporting". At 3PM on Canzano's show he denied that an offer had been made... it's probably safe to stop searching for that corroborating source.

As if KP would confirm an offer even if one was made.

If Ptd made an offer, wouldn't that have to be disclosed to Utah . . . . if there is an offical offer for Milsap, we will know.

The Trail Blazers on Thursday confirmed their interest in free agent Paul Millsap, but general manager Kevin Pritchard said the team has yet to extend an offer to the Utah power forward.

"We are looking at all our options," Pritchard said. "I wouldn't say we're just looking at (Millsap). We are talking with him, that I can verify. But he's not the only person we're talking to."

Other free agents the Blazers are believed to be talking to are power forward Brandon Bass, small forward Lamar Odom and point guard Raymond Felton. Millsap, however, has been identified as the team's top priority.

Millsap and Felton are restricted free agents, which allows their teams seven days to match an offer. Felton is with Charlotte.

DeAngelo Simmons, the agent and cousin of Millsap, said he has been in talks with the Blazers and considers them a serious player in the pursuit of Millsap. He said he is awaiting a proposal from the team.

"But I'd rather keep quiet until I get something concrete," Simmons said.

Millsap, 24, averaged 13.5 points and 8.6 rebounds last season, his third in the NBA. He started a career-high 38 games when Carlos Boozer was injured and ended up with the sixth most offensive rebounds in the NBA (251). As a starter, Millsap averaged 16.0 points and 10.3 rebounds.

Although the Blazers have a rising star at power forward in LaMarcus Aldridge, Millsap has apparently assured the Blazers he would be content coming off the bench. Pritchard said he won't be deterred in paying big money for a backup.

"I'm a big believer that you get the best player," Pritchard said. "(Nate McMillan) is an unbelievable coach. He always figures out a how to blend talent together. And if you can get the best available player, go get him."

Millsap, a second-round pick in 2006, made the NBA-minimum $797,581 last season. The Blazers are preparing what one team source called a "toxic" offer, which was designed to scare off the Jazz and other suitors. That deal is expected to include a signing bonus and exhaust nearly all of the Blazers' $7.7 million in cap space. The Blazers could extend their cap space to $8.9 million by renouncing the rights to former first-round picks Petteri Koponen and Joel Freeland, but Pritchard on Thursday said he has no intentions of doing so.

Utah general manager Kevin O'Connor has been staunch in telling Salt Lake media that the Jazz intend to match any offer, even though the team has a $73 million payroll, which is over the $69 million the tax threshold.

kp and tom penn need to do what toronto did and pull a trade first. that way they will still have some cap room.

if millsap signed an offer sheet with portland, we would all know and yes, kp would confirm it.

of course that's different from making an offer.

Yah, but we'd have to first find a FA who thinks Portland is a more cosmopolitan city than the one they're thinking of going to.

Look out Milwaukee and Sacramento! We're gonna take someone you're interested in!

I just saw that this link was already posted.

I just get that Quick said that Millsap hasn't signed the offer sheet yet or that it hasn't gotten to him. It could very well be that he hasn't signed it yet because it hasn't been offered to him yet.

To be honest, with Yao's injury, Houston is in the market for a center. I'm surprised they didn't make a move towards Gortat. I could see a Battier for Pryzbilla deal easily if we sign Millsap (and then have Outlaw/Pendergraph to backup the 4/5). We could always bring in Freeland if we need more depth (I think it'd be a mistake to renounce him, he's a highly rated prospect with rights held according to DraftExpress). I love Pryzbilla and what he does for the team. I don't WANT to move him. But if we get a quality, young backup big, then he IS more expendable. Still could be a very solid offseason with that in mind.

He's also a little bit more expendable when you consider the fact that he'll most likely opt out next year, and at age 31, look for his last long term deal. Are we really going to give Joel another 5-year deal when he's 31 for more than 25 million, especially considering the cap's going down and we have about 5 players that will deserve 8-14 million per year in the next few seasons?

Joel will stay a Blazer - and I'll bet he'd extend for the right price!

He's shown his loyalty in the past to this regard!

I'd be really surprised to see Joel traded. And I will also be surprised to see his current contract expire (as I feel he'll be offered - and will sign - an extension that is suitable for everyone to live with).

They did. I read somewhere that he said he didn't want to be compare with Yao Ming, which was one reason he didn't go there.

I still don't get it: if the point is to bring in Millsap for toughness and rebounding, why would you get rid of the guy who embodies those, and beats Millsap in both respects, along with defense (which is supposed to be a weakness of the Blazers, with offense - Millsap's lone advantage over Prz - their strength)? And in so doing it would force us to play either LaMarcus or Millsap out of position at C. Makes little sense to me.

I disagree.

Joel loves Portland, but I think he also views himself as a starter. Next year, or at worst the year after Oden should be getting no less than 35 minutes per game, as well as Aldridge. That leaves 26 minutes per game left total. Of those, Joel can realistically play 13. I don't really think he would be happy with that. If the team actually does offer Millsap or Bass then that would more than like mean less time for Joel.

I actually think if Oden plays close to expectations then Joel will opt out after this season. I think he can probably get some of the money teams have been clearing to sign these huge FA's because most will likely stay with their teams. Joel will vault to the top of the FA class pretty quickly because defensive centers are pretty valuable, and Joel is at the top of the defensive centers list.

GMs won't tell you what they're going to do but usually toot their horns pretty proudly on what they've done.

so who to believe... Quick or KP :smiley-hmm:

Quick states we have made the offer. KP states we have not. I went to the Salt Lake Tribune and they don't mention anything about an offer to him.

Hmmmmmmmmm..................., Jason Quick telling lies? Shocking!

I think another advantage would be offensive production.

82games.com shows that per 48 minutes

Millsap has a PF PER of 20.7 and a center PER of 20.9

Millsap's Opp. PF PER is 16.5 and a center per of 11.5

Joel has a center PER of 17.5. The same as his Opponents

Aldridge does not have a good PER differential at center, but still a higher PER than Joel.

So maybe Millsap is quite a bit better than Joel? And he can play two possitions.

Try not to bash on Quick too much

He was right about The contract thing

He was right about them being interested in Millsap

it's day #3 that Roy and Aldridge can be extended and KP is on record (all along and again yesterday) saying this absolutely will happen. Yet Quick's panties are firmly wedged.

You've got to be kidding about being right about Millsap. Being interested in him doesn't mean jack... they talk to and about everybody and everything. Quick reported an offer had been extended... that he knew specific yearly dollars.

Try not to apologize for Quick too much... dude is ridiculous

Regardless, people in here are calling him a liar and such, and I think that is off base. No one knew we were after Millsap until Quick broke it that we were. No one had any idea that Roy and Aldridge's contract talks were hitting even the slightest snag until Quick broke it that they were. While slight, and nothing will more than likely come of it, it was true.
