Respecting Ryan Anderson

<small>September 21, 2008, 2:22 am</small> Ryan Anderson put up some nice numbers last year against some of the best players in the NBA draft: 24 and 11 vs. Michael Beasley; 21 and 8 vs. Kevin Love; 36 and 12 vs. JaVale McGee, 15 and 11 vs. the Lopez twins. But the Cal forward doesn’t get a lot of respect. He isn’t that flashy, that athletic, but he sure knows how to put the ball in hoop. The Nets hope he continues to be underestimated.

Great read. I think Anderson could surprise some people. A solid 6th man is all I ask for.

What exactly is everyone expecting of him? I'm expecting maybe a slightly faster version of Croshere at best. Anything beyond that will be a surprise to me.

That would be fine. Croshere was a damn good player off the bench for some of those Pacer teams til he got hurt.
KVH would be good too.

i think hes a more athletic KVH... and thats not too shabby... kvh was pretty solid he just lacked the driving move... i hope ryan can develop that so when guys close out on him he can blow by em

He's not as good as KVH. I cannot imagine Ryan Anderson averaging 19 and 7 over the first three years of his career like KVH did.

RA won't have KVH type numbers in his 1st 3 years, and one of the reasons for that will be the fact that RA will not come into this league as the #2 pick in the draft and thrust into the starting lineup.

But, though RA will certainly start his career more slowly than KVH, let's hope he has a better middle and end of his career, and does not wind up as a salary attached to a player that no NBA team wants.

That was one of the "SOFTEST" 19 and 7's in NBA history. I'd rather a 'tougher' and more active 14 and 5 any day of the week.

Are you saying that no player that averaged 14 & 5 was better than KVH?

And KVH had no post game.

im saying i will take 19 and 7 over 14 and 5 any day. the thing you have to realize is they were banking on KVH's potential. People were thinking he was going to be an all-star much like how Dirk Nowitzki turned out to be. but he was a bust in that respect. and i didnt see him play at all when he was in NJ, but i watched him a lot in philly, and yes he did have a post game.

Okay, let's explain. A full fledged starter(say like KVH), might be a defensive liability, only get defensive rebounds and require a certain amount of offensive scheming to get him his 19 points. His 19 and 7 costs the team almost as much as his 'return' for those stats. Whereas a starter or bencher who has less minutes, requires less offensive scheming to get his points(can create or scrap for his own), plays aggresive-capable defense, is less a liability, usually offers more in the way of intangibles AND averages around 14 and 5 is much more welcome on my team. That make more sense now?

He was a bust by any measure.

And Sixers liked KVH's post game (though I can't picture what that looks like) so much that they traded him for Big Dog and Marc Jackson after one season in Philly.

And Keith's last game as a Sixer was truly an embarrassment for him.

while KVH wasn't the most durable player, and didn't shoot an extremely high percentage, he averaged very nice numbers from the small forward position. I'm not saying hes better than anyone that averages 14 and 5 (even though i can't think of a player who was at that time) but he was a very promising player during this time, and i think people would laugh at you for saying that during his first 3 seasons. like i said before, KVH had potential that people were banking on him living up to.

No, because Aldridge has potential, and its becoming very clear that he will live up to it, and continue to improve, especially since Oden is returning. HOWEVER, if i knew for some reason that Aldridge would not improve and be the same player his whole career, then i might take Randolph. I know Randolph is a selfish player and just gets his numbers, but i really think he could be great player in the right system. which he obviously hasn't been in his whole career.

well obviously the nets didnt think that when they drafted him, or his first 4 seasons. The sixers have been my favorite team since i can remember, and i remember seeing a lot of KVH's games. When he wasn't shooting the 3 off Iversons drives, they were dumping it to him in the mid/low post where he got his points.

The point is, is KVH's 19 and 7 didn't look so bad when he was in NJ and the only reason you can bash on it is because he didn't turn into the all-star people thought he would be.

Shows how stupid people would have been for laughing at an assessment that Van Horn dog because of his stats his first 3 years in the league.

It all comes out in the wash, time will tell, don't judge a book by it's cover and other assorted cliches fit very well here.

Oh, and KVH did 19.7 & 6.6 in his rookie year.

Now check his rookie year playoff stats. 12.7 & 3.0. The writing was on the wall. Hey, another fitting cliche.

Also, KVH played PF for the majority of his career, especially on defense, as Keith's having to guard SFs would have been HIGHLY embarrassing for him.

And, just an FYI, Larry Johnson when he was a Knick (which was very far passed his glory days) would have averaged 50 points a game if Keith guarded him for the entire game, every game.
