Maybe 1st round picks will have more value. If teams can’t count on tanking the next thing they will want is more chances to increase their odds

So 4-10 has the best odds, which means teams will be incentivized to stay out of 1-3 and just checking out of a season/actively tanking. There will be both competition to make the playoffs and competition to stay out of the toilet. I think I like this idea.

The drawback I see if this is the long term solution. The report said they're going to try it for two drafts and then adjust if needed. Anyway, the drawback I see is that no one is going to want an aging team.

You just won't be able to count on falling off once your vets retire and then getting high picks because your team sucks and if you get in the unenviable position of having a shitty roster there is no guarantee that the draft will rescue you with high picks you could be the worst team in the league and picking in the teens year after year.

It’s what we used to do, and will do again after Dame is gone.

This feels like a trap for the bottom 3 teams ... the whole 'pick no worse than 12th' seems like garbage to me since anything outside of the top 5 becomes a massive crap shoot on finding a good player in most drafts. Feels like at least one team is going to get stuck in that bottom 3 loop where they can never create a roster that is good enough to get out.

so, I was wasting time, cruising around youtube and I saw some reaction video to the coin toss scene in No Country for Old Men....and it got me thinking about something....ties

as in teams tied with the same record. Two teams are tied for 3rd worst record. I guess they have a coin toss, but the loser only gets 2 ping pong balls while the winner gets 3. Same deal for teams tied for 10th. Loser gets two balls; winner gets three. Those are much higher stakes than the current system. If it's a coin toss, that toss could change a franchise.....kind of like when the Blazers lost the toss with Houston in 1984

something else - the lottery show:

I really doubt they will televise the actual lottery (maybe they should though). To set the cage, do the mixing, draw the ball, then fish the other balls for the team that just won a slot out of the cage...then do it all again....that would probably take too much time

but the reveal will be exciting as hell if there is a lottery for all 16 slots. The pre-lottery 2nd seed could end up 16th in the order. There will be no reverse order slotting. All 16 slots will be a surprise, and the tension will mount progressively. It will be great TV
