He's got my vote. What a helluva a trade and what a helluva GM!

Hey man, are you back working the games. Swore I saw you tonight.

Twas me. I've worked the past 8 games, or so. They called me up so i decided to go back.

I agree, Mick. I can't think of anyone better except maybe Pat Riley.

Don't worry, they'll find a way to give it to Presti.

No way! He made a big trade without first leaking it to the local media and getting the approval of the message board arm chair GMs.

Maybe better check out Bayless' last two games as starting PG for Toronto, he's done very well. In the meantime we are a team without a solid backup PG. And we didn't need that draft pick to get Wallace.

Still not sure why they made that move. Did they think that Armon Johnson was going to be a bigger contributor this year?

Well technically, that pick went to the Cats....although they might have taken our 1st rounder instead.

He made one really good trade.

He also started the year with the roster in a mess, and didn't do anything about it until the last minute.

The Wallace trade raises his grade from an "F" to a "C". That hardly qualifies as Exec of the *year* material. More like "save your ass move of the year."

who said he didn't get the approval of some of us? ;)

While the Wallace trade was very good, I highly doubt it puts Cho in the winner spot for EOY with all the wheeling and dealing that took place this last summer and at the trade deadline. There were a lot of hugh deals made and, of course, "Teh Decision" as well. I'm very happy to have Wallace but Cho's not going to sniff EOY this year.

^Yeah, and the fact that the Crash trade isn't even on the radar of the media (who are constantly rehashing not only the Melo and Deron-is-Deron deals, but the Perkins to OKC trade) means that, much like Nate's CoY hopes, Cho's ceiling for awards is something like 4th place. Welcome to backwater Portland. :dunno:

The team is going to lose more games than last year, while losing less games to injury than last year. Cho has done a nice job, but he is still looking at a 6-8 seed, and under 50 wins.

In a fair world, Masai Ujiri would win the award for trading away an All-NBA player, and a proven veteran PG, and actually having his team improve. In Stern's world, Pat Riley will likely win it for living in Miami.

Reminds me of that poster I saw of Mike Brown.

"Coach of the Year"
1. Have LeBron James on your team. 2. Wear a suit.

Bayless was the 4th SG on the depth charts and would have bitched abount getting little PT. He is not a PG. A near lottery pick was good value and still is. Bayless is the type of player you can get every offseason for a portion of the MLE. He is not the stud we thought he could be at draft time like Westbrook has become.

I think in retrospect--knowing what we know now about Johnson's play this season, our injuries and NO's better-than-expected record--we would have kept Bayless for at least one more year. Stuff happens. While I think we came out on the short end of the deal, it hasn't really hurt us too badly.

If you really want to compare this year's record to last year's record, you have to count all of Roy's games this year as "games missed due to injury".

You have ridiculously high expectations.

You give Cho an F because he didn’t do any major move for a period of a few months? How many major roster shakeups should a franchise have? What if Cho had traded LaMarcus for a worthless young prospect, would he get an F-? He already got an F by you for doing nothing… I’m glad he didn’t make a bad trade just because we had a “roster in a mess” whatever the heck that means. Cho did nothing because he didn’t believe there was a move that helped the team.

Then he gets a borderline all-star who is the second best player on our roster for late first round draft picks. That is one of the most lopsided trades in Blazer history, it’s nearly on the level of a Pau Gasol steal of a trade.

Rich Cho winning EoTY would be like Kevin Love making the all-star team....totally undeserving.

I would say it depends on the playoff success. Does the vote occur before then?

If not, and if Miami doesn't get passed the second round and the Blazers do then I'd say Rich Cho would be deserving. Making some history and Living up to all the pressure that's been placed on him.

Sounds like you're thinking more CoTY than EoTY.

Cho is only responsible for one meaningful player on the roster. Hardly EoTY worthy. He's had a good first season though after a shaky start with the Bayless trade.

I think Denver's GM deserves this award. He found a way to ship out Anthony, their one superstar, and still get better in the process. Side benefit: he made the Knicks worse.

Now that's a brilliant deal.

I think it was simply a move intended to placate Rudy.

Last year we had a functional Brandon Roy- in that sense this year is much worse injury-wise, we lost the engine that makes us go. If we had the same Roy this year as last year, we'd be knocking on the championship door.

As a whole, the front office has done an excellent job since last year- Matthews was a great signing (I know it's not Cho) and Gerald Wallace was the most lopsided trade since Pau Gasol- it could have put us over the top if not for the diminished Roy. Bayless (whom I liked) was not a significant loss.

Even as a whole, though, there's no way this is equivalent to signing two of the top five players and Chris Bosh. My hat's off to Riley.

I did. The team lost more games to injury last year.

Including Roy in the comparision, he played 65 games last year, and is on pace to play 49 games this year. So, whatever you need to do with those 16 games, please note that they are included in a this year v. last year comparison.

I'm not criticizing Cho, nor did I, unless thinking he doesn't deserve EotY is considered criticizing him. As I posted earlier, I think that Ujiri should win it for making the Nuggets better after trading away his two "best" players. The Blazers will win less games than last year, have a similar playoff seed, and will be the underdog to win a playoff series. I guess I don't see what about that would make Cho EotY, especially when compared to the two previous years of 54 wins and 50 wins.
