Rich Cho out as GM!

I believe this decision was made very recently. here is why:

John Nash used to sit next to PA during every game until rumors swirled that management wasn't happy with him. After the rumors, Nash started sitting in a different section than PA

KP used to sit next to PA during every games until rumors swirl and KP starts sitting in a different section

Cho sat next to PA throughout the season (playoffs too?)

So I suspect the falling out is very recent.

Chad Buchanan is your next Blazers "GM". Pretty fucking clear.

It was pretty clear to me that the next GM will have GM experience, so that would exclude Buchanan.

That was a pointless news conference. Whatever. Just make a clone of PA and assign him GM duties. "Chemistry" issues solved.

Dwight Jaynes flat out says (through inside sources) that PA and Cho just didn't get along and it's been going on for most of the season. If that's truly the case, then I have no problem with the firing of Cho. If I was PA and I didn't get along with my GM I'd can his ass as well.

And what GM would possibly want this job? If they hire a GM it will just be another 1st year guy as an experienced GM realizes he doesn't have the autonomy needed to get what he wants done.

I totally agree with you.

Like I said earlier in this thread. We are going to have a hard time finding a solid GM and if we ever fire Nate, we'll have an impossible time finding a better coach for the same reason.

There's some credence to that, but I'd be more cognizant of the results Cho produced.

I expect that those results (primarily the Wallace trade) are viewed as having been the work of several people in Blazers management rather than simply Cho.

What did Cho produce? An uncertain future with Greg Oden, trading away a young back-up PG for a draft pick, and being lucky enough to work under one of Michael Jordan's best friends? The team lost more games than the previous season, it again got bounced from the playoffs, and perhaps Paul Allen had seen enough of Cho in 10 months to know hiring him was a mistake.

Hiring a GM shouldn't be a problem.

If you were offered a 3 yr contract by a company you were warned were unstable and could fire you at anytime, what would you care as long as you have a contract. Heck, maybe Cho is smarter than we all give credit. He signs a 3 yr deal, pisses off Allen so he only has to work 1 year to get paid 3 years . . . and the cream on top is everyone will blame the Blazers and Cho can start networking for his next job in two years without looking like a failure.

I am not going to overreact when so few facts are available.

Ed O.

When are you going to overreact, then?

I think the best time to overreact is when about 10% of the facts are known. That gives you a lot of leeway as far as the direction of your overreaction, but at the same time you can work in a kernel of truth so that you aren't ranting about aliens invading.

I didn't read any of the 11 pages of this thread, so i will just post my initial thoughts. I could care less. My gut feeling is that he was a smart guy who lacked leadership and sales skills. I doubt the players/coaches could care less either because I doubt he bonded with anyone. Just a guess.

I am sure he did an adequate job. He certainly did not hurt us. But in the end they probably think they can do better.

I can't believe that Cho and Paul couldn't get along. Makes NO sense. Cho was the most quiet, timid, shy person I have ever been around in my life. The ANTI-Pritchard! He would be on the plane and come up and talk to Rice and I..... you could barley get more then 1 word answers out of him.

Email from Cho to the TrailBlazers staff a few minutes ago.....

"Obviously it's a difficult day, but I want to truly thank Paul Allen and Larry Miller for the opportunity they gave me here in Portland," said Cho. "I also want to thank the fans, players, coaches, business office staff and especially my basketball operations staff who have supported me along the way. I feel good about the work we've done here and I know the Trail Blazers are headed in the right direction."

Unless Canzano is on the Trail Blazers staff, this is the same thing he got from Cho.

I think Larry's connection to MJ is what got us Gerald!

I suppose that's possible. However there have been no reports that I'm aware that state Rich Cho didn't make that deal.

Philosophical differences? If Cho's vision didn't match what Paul wanted, maybe he didn't want to just be a "yes" man.

btw, Chad Buchanan is about to come on soon on courtside (blazers.com)

Wow, I never would have thought they'd fire him after only one year! Don't GMs normally get a few years, or have to make some big time blunders before they are canned?

I'm really questioning Paul Allen here. I don't understand why he fired KP, and this is even more bizaare because Cho never got a chance.
