Everyone has been acting like he's had some kind of career season but he has been overrated beyond belief this season. The fact is he is no longer the great all around forward who did a bit of everything in 2005-2006. That season the Nets won 49 game and RJ averaged 19.5 ppg, 6.8 rpg, 3.8 apg, 2.2 TO, 49.3% from the field 81.2% from the line while playing excellent perimeter defense.
Now he is at 22.8 ppg but the Nets are a lottery team and his rebounds have fallen all the way down to a very weak 4.2 per game while his assists have gone down to 2.9 per game yet his turnovers have gone up to 2.5 per game. His field goal % has also gone to 46.8% while his free throw % has gone down a bit too. He is scoring more but the main reason is because he is taking more shots it's not like he's been more efficient. His assists dropping wouldn't be bad either but his turnovers have gone up and he is no longer avery good defender. RJ's defense has become average at best and overall i'd say mediocre. He usually gets lit up 1 on 1 and his help defense is average.
So why is everyone saying he's having a career season when he has been a very one dimensional player. It's not like the team has been great either. People seem to love scoring averages and forget about things like rebounds, playmaking and defense. I'd rather have the forward who did a bit of everything in 2005-2006 instead of a one dimensional 23 ppg scorer who doesn't make his teammates better and averages a pathetic 4.2 rpg.
For the record I like RJ but he has to be a more well rounded player like he use to be.
