Rick Nash is playing “awful” and “shrinking” in the playoffs

you would think we had a dynasty in NY with Messier/Keenan...did i miss something? Keenan has as many Cups as Torts
well considering the guy coached here 1 year and they won it that year...yeah I think we can say it was a pretty successful run

I don't disagree, but we need him to produce I believe. I wouldn't bet a penny on him doing it, but I see no upside in saying I give up on him. I think we do need to keep playing him. We do need to get him back on the 1st PP unit. But I would get on him if I was the coach or a teammate.

MSL is a totally different situation, he is 40 and at the end of his career. He is better than what he has show in these playoffs, but at 40 I am just not sure what you can expect from him anymore. I wouldd move him down and keep Miller and Hayes up. Go from there.

All we can do is hope Nash gets it...very doubtful but you can always have hope...:).

and how many Cups did he win before or after that one? zero. His model of coaching is archaic just like Torts is. Often when a player is struggling i read how under Keenan he would have been benched, blah blah blah. The guy came here, ran into a Cup and did absolutely nothing great after leaving NY.

If anything, we should be saying "Darryl Sutter / Joel Quennville would do X" as those are successful coaches whose techniques work today.

Why nit pick something that has nothing to do with anything? It's about motivating guys so you know what the Keenan references mean.

because whenever a player struggles, it's often referenced how he would have been benched under Keenan, or he wouldn't let us wuss out, etc as if that would somehow make the current results any different. Keenan has probably alienated more people than he motivated and his style of coaching is NOT that this team would need given how archaic his style is.

In the almost 15yrs he coached after he left NY he made the playoffs 4x and got out of the 1st round ONCE. What a motivator! we could certainly use that today in the ECF's!

They don't come more overrated than Keenan when it comes to coaching.

So what he did prior doesn't count? But you're right. Keep on doing the same against Tampa because it has worked so well.

sure it does, and he did very well, but his PO success as the years passed shows his style stopped being effective. Why is such an effective motivator out of coaching for over 5yrs? no one wants his antics anymore. Heck, if that clown Keenan was our coach the past few years (no team could tolerate him more than 3yrs since the early 90's, but let's pretend), there's a good chance he would have pulled Henrik in and out of goal like a yo-yo and he would have said "get me out of NY, i'm done with this clown" a long time ago.

And we're playing in a way that is uncharacteristic of the Rangers and despite that we were one bounce away from being 2-1 in the series.

He has been to 3 or 4 Stanley Cup finals, winning one of them with us, and also is the 1st American coach ever to win the KHL championship. So saying he is overrated is ridiculous..

It's not uncharacteristic against Tampa and that's the problem. Hank has a 4.75 GAA against them this year.

I've said it already. Nash will have a ton of value to teams not making the playoffs or that make it once in a while. HE will not be on the Rangers next season if they don't win the cup and he doesn't score. He's finished here.

don't let those silly facts get in the way though

doesn't he have a NTC?

Not sure if his NTC applies if he waived it once to get dealt. Not sure how that works. Either way, I don't think he will want to stay here when the fans in NY trash him without mercy for his playoff incompetence.

Al, it becomes a limited ntc this summer probably means he gives the rangers a list of teams he can't be traded to or something along that lines but looks like a nash deal if slats is looking to do could probably get done.

Nash played well and actually scored against MTL last year so it's possible he comes on... Last series it took Stepan and Kreider until 1:41 of game 5 to get it going... MSL and Nash can be those guys but it's looking more and more doutfal...

Let's not forget though that Hagelin hasn't done anything since the first round, Miller has 0 goals, Yandle is just starting to play well, and Glass, Girardi and Sheppard have 0 goals

Nash scored three goals in a 25 game run to the finals last year. It was garbage. This year he has two in 15 games so more of the same.
