He started both talk shows with a monologue in which he looked drunk, like Scottish Craig Ferguson 30 years later. He swayed as he stood and slurred his speech a little. He wasn't eagle-eyed like the big hosts; he was more red-eyed. This fit the late-70s majority attitude to authority. I wanted to watch him more, but to save time I had abandoned TV pretty much by then, so I only saw a minute a few times (same for Ferguson later). Later, he had some situation comedies (I know nothing). He went out like a true Canadian, heart attack while playing hockey at almost age 70.
