Wow....had stopped watching ESPN, didn't know he was sick until I saw his Jimmy V Award acceptance speech. Played that for both mom and pop this summer as they dueled with chemo.

ESPN 'rat pack' lost a great one. RIP!

Damn this disease but he fought it as hard as anyone could. After the ESPYS we knew it a matter of time but he never gave up. His body just couldn't do it anymore. It's a sad day.

Appendix cancer is pretty rare, the other notable person who succumbed to it was Audrey Hepburn. He fought that fight for 7 years.

Sad indeed! His presence will be sorely missed....

He was one of the few broadcasters or even anyone famous whom I felt like I personally knew with how he spoke & carried himself on the air... I am not ashamed to admit I was fighting back tears this morning... So sad
