Banks was another of my favorite players, RIP EB, great player and human being.

He was the happiest player that I ever saw. I enjoyed watching him play. RIP Ernie.

He had a good life. RIP as baseball loses another legend fron that era.

...didn't realize there were 2 threads on this...sorry.

When these legends start to go you feel part of your childhood also going. A fun player to watch.

Yogi Berra 89
Whitey Ford 86
Willie Mays 83
Al Kaline 80
Henry Aaron 80
Frank Robinson 80
Sandy Koufax 79
Bob Gibson 79
Juan Marichal 77
Willie McCovey 77
Billy Williams 77

Ah 2 are better than 1.

I saw a game around mid-season, when Ernie Banks, Billy Williams, and Ferguson Jenkins were honored. Both Ryne Sandberg, (Cubs vs Phillies in Wrigley), and I forget the other bloke, walked out to the mound with all 3, as each one threw the 1st pitch out....

All 3 sang "take me out to the ballgame", in at the 7th inning. The one who spoke mostly for all 3 was Ferguson, and he made several mention of how hard it was to even throw a ball or even find comfort in the things or chores we take for granted.

Billy and Ernie just seemed to hang back, remain silent.....

RIP Mr. "Let Play 2"

Add Ernie Banks he turns 84 on the 31st of this month...

Sadly, no he won't. The players I mentioned are still alive.
Excuse me Rick, honestly I just got out of bed, trying to focus my vision, saw this thread was about Ernie passing, and like a total flop, I did not equate 1+1 = 2, as I was reading about Banks dying, and still posting his age.......so much for posting WITHOUT at least a cup of coffee, and a wake up splash of water in the face......!MY BAD...!

The best was ten or so years ago I went to Cooperstown on the Saturday of Hof Weekend. Met so many legends and some no longer with us. That was really cool.

Childhood? The youngsters here were 30 when I was born and retired by the time I started collecting cards.

Vic, just curious, how did the ones look that are no longer with us? Sorry, I couldn't resist.

I never had the pleasure of going to the HOF, had to be really cool.

Ok, then Manhood, teen hood, anything but "don't drink your orange juice, while down in the hood"

Sorry Tom I was under the impression that you were REALLY old. With the exception of Yogi & Ford I was out of high school when all these other guys retired.

Ha. Born in what you hippies called "The summer of love."

Summer of Love ....1967.....but things didn't really get "going" until '68-72

member? lol

Ah the 60s were a blast, but the 70s, made the 60s look like a mild picnic at Disney Land......IMO...and experiences.

Hell, I got in NO trouble in the 60s, maybe cuz alot of shit was yet to be outlawed. The 70s, even 80s saw the Columbian Cartels with their Coca Hooks, in just about every Night Club, Sidewalk, and those damned discos.

We wore Bell Bottoms in the 60s, we streaked, (well not me), in the 70s, we wore Levi 501s in the 80s, and lost the freedoms of youth, by having to go and get a job to feed our new families.....like eating 70s left overs, in some ways.

Hell with the 60s 70s & 80s, Tell us what you did in the 50s, 40s & 30s grandpa.
