Rip Hamilton?

Okay. So we're not getting Rubio. I can deal with it. In fact, I'm ready to make a complete reversal on my refusal to see Brandon Roy as our primary ball-handler. Because apparently Rip Hamilton is available:

Strong indications persist that the Pistons will go ahead with their expected hard push for Chicago Bulls free agent-to-be Ben Gordon starting July 1, even though Rip Hamilton's contract extension hasn't even kicked in yet.
So you also can expect to keep hearing Hamilton's name surfacing in trade proposals, in spite of all his history in Detroit, because the Pistons can't possibly find a way to make room for Gordon, Hamilton and Rodney Stuckey. And then you have to consider the rumblings on our radar about how Rip and Pistons coach Michael Curry are not exactly sharing the same worldview.

Now Rip is actually a pretty decent passer. I'm pretty sure I've seen him get double-figure assists before. [Edit: 16 in fact, just this March.] Can you imagine a starting backcourt of Roy and Hamilton? If Phil Jackson was our coach, he'd be drooling...

Now Rip is actually a pretty decent passer. I'm pretty sure I've seen him get double-figure assists before. Can you imagine a starting backcourt of Roy and Hamilton? If Phil Jackson was our coach, he'd be drooling...

I like Hamilton, but as a SF, not a SG. He is 6'7" so he would have no real issue playing the SF either.

He is not a SF though. He is a 2 and I remember something like he wouldn't play SF and he is only like 185 lbs lol

Hmmm that is iffy. SF on a small lineup. He made the biggest strides in his career when he moved from SF to SG after being moved from Washington to Detroit. He is a much better play now though, so who knows. He would probably be a hell of a lot better than anything were running now.

I agree. I know that there were some spats during the AI era, but you know I think I would bitch too if they got rid of Chauncy for AI and then put me on the bench and you sat there and watched the team lose, and lose, and lose. When Richard Hamilton piped up finally, it had been weeks of losing before he said anything public. Then whent that happened he said, "If we were winning, I wouldn't be talking. But were not, and I have to speak up."

Hamilton is a good player but doesn't have much of anything Portland needs. I wouldn't make this trade.

He'd be useful. I'm not against it. Like Jamison, I can see getting down with this, but that contract man seems too steep. His production is going down hill.

Who would guard the opposing point guard? Either Roy or Rip chasing the opposing point guard around would be a disaster, IMO.

I suppose Batum might be up to the task, but I really wonder if Portland would do something that unconventional. Plus, that would require Roy or Hamilton guarding the small forward and I don't think that's optimal for either player.

With us already having Roy and Rudy I don't think Rip would be a very smart addition. But if Rudy was dealt in a seperate deal it would be a much more attractive option.
