What a good guy he was........ Came and spoke to my sons football team this past November at their end of year banquet. I think my son was the only one who knew who he was, but his message really hit home with these kids. Jerome will be missed.......always a smile on his face. R.I.P.........FAMS.

Awesome dude. Met him at the 25th anniversary celebration of the championship team. Sat court side, played the Lakers in a triple overtime game that we won. Met Walton and Lucas, then Jerome happen to be sitting behind us in the stands. Was very nice to my brother and I, was giving us high fives during the game, very engaged with us. As a 16 year old kid, getting to watch that game with one of my Blazer heroes was pretty flipping special.

Fuck. Just woke up to this.

Electrifying, inspirational player on the court. Class act and pure warmth off of it.

I'm sure they'll come up with a JK25 patch for the rest of the season, but as another tribute, we should wear the old italicized Blazers jerseys for Sunday's home game. Huge loss, not only for the city of Portland, but for the NBA.

I actually really REALLY like this idea. I hope someone from the Blazers sees this

Although I'm not saying he has to, I think it would be great if Steve Blake gave up his # for the rest of the year. Kind of unofficially "retire" the #, so to speak.

Nah, I want to see #25 on the court.

Nah, just wear the JK black patch. Maybe go with the retro jerseys with "Kersey" for everyones name?

What?? One of my faves. Met him once a few years ago and I felt like a little kid.

I definitely think they should wear retro style uniforms, just not short shorts.

Maybe the warmups could all say "Kersey" on it.

I'm still crushed by this. Easily one of the all time great Trail Blazers players and human beings. Not fair at all. I feel so bad for his family.

A tiny article in the sports roundup of the San Francisco Chronicle. I might easily have missed it. I am in shock. Jerome was my favorite player on those early 90s teams. Not the best, but the most intense. I went to the 1990 Rip City rally hours early to get up front, Jerome was on stage only a few feet away, we made eye contact and he gave me his huge great smile, threw me a pompom. I wore a No Mercy Kersey T-shirt to rags. Two fifths of our starting lineup gone so early. Oh man.

I met Jerome several times before I ACTUALLY REFEREED him in a city league game.... I'll admit I was a bit star struck... He was a class act and I will never forget what he did for my team and my community. He was an amazing human....:smiley-grom:

All the chicks dug him back in the day. I bet they still do. Someone needs to go account for all the broken hearts this eve.

Such a sad eve.

RIP Jerome.

You're right about that, I was engaged to Jeromeo the entire 11 years he played here. (Okay he may have been in the dark about our betrothal but I just knew was going to love me as soon as he met me)

My boyfriend saw the news this morning and ran upstairs to tell me in person because he knew this would really hit me hard. I'm in shock.

I met him a couple times like a lot of people. He was very personable, outgoing, and funny. I was getting my picture taken with him (after he retired) and I was totally geeking out. I was talking 1000 words a minute and said, "Do you remember that play off game in Phoenix that went into triple over time and finally KJ pulled his hamstring and had to come out and we ended up winning 153 t0 151? That was the best game I've ever seen!" His eyes got wide and he started nodding slowly and reverently and he goes, "That was a good game". Then he made a joke about me being short and totally put me at ease.

I don't want this to be true...

I don't want this to be true either. This is really depressing news.

Just stunned! I was really surprised when Duckworth and Lucas past but Kersey too, like this, so young? Man! Just speechless.

Sorry for your loss...

And every other blazer fans loss...I'm still devastated and I keep on asking myself, did it it have to happen? What if they kept him in the hospital a few more days? Dang!
