Why give yourself a deadline to trade somebody. Makes no sense.

It would allow them to be able to include whoever they got back in another trade before the trade deadline, if they were so inclined. It was really a silly, arbitrary deadline that created an incredibly small trade window.

I think it had to do with, if he was traded by today, whichever team picked him up would be able to trade him again at the trade deadline, otherwise he can't be traded again until the offseason...I think.
