Hey guys I just pulled this off our FB, thought I’d share:

This is Kim Unca Bobs other half sorry there have been no updates but it has been just a bit crazy here ! he was in O.R. for just under 5 hours , then in recovery for 6 hours at which time I was allowed to see him 5 minutes every hour !He got in a room at almost 7:00 PM I stayed until about an hour after that as I had chores waiting at home, Like the poor dog *VBG* . Day 2 he was sent home !! I still cant belive they sent him home the day after , it was abut 5:00PM when he got home so you can say he was admitted for 36
hours. They did a very bad job of managing his pain right down to lying to him about when his next pain med was due , and then in the middle of the night when I call to see how he is doing they braged to me about it. They got a whole lot more than an ear full and they don't even know how lucky they were I can't drive!!! right before they sent him home I felt his skin he felt his skin and I took his temp 100.4 2 tylnol and good to go ! He is in alot of pain but I am keeping all meds in child proof lids ( he cant open them YET ) and charting when he took what !!He nor I was very impressed with the stay !I think it will be a while before you see him on the puter but I will try to do better about keeping all of you better updated.

If I see anymore news I will pass along here. I’m sure he will read this thread soon, lol!

Aka unca bob

Rob ...mattingly23NY - Get well real fast. Miss your input.
Cannot believe they sent you home in pain! Hard to believe. :smiley-doctor:

Hey there Matty 23, fellow Yankee Fan and Board Poster. You got to find that get up and got that seems to have got up and went and get back in circulation. Have enjoyed your input over the seasons and hope to see more in the future.

Thank You for your support and sincerity, all my Yankee Brothers and Sister'.....

1 week ago, yesterday, I lost half a kidney to Renal Cell Carcinoma. I was supposed to lose the gall bladder during the same robotic surgery, ie "Da Vinci". The surgeon's determined such wouldn't be wise due to cross contamination......

I still have a lot of recovery to do, one step at a time. Still have to lose the gall bladder, and still the Endocronologists/Oncologists have to determine what they're going to do about the LH Kidney which has a mass Inside the kidney....

I've had 11 surgeries since I turned 35, and this one, shit, it hurt like hell, still does, even with Opiates, (and yep Tom, I'm watching my intake closely, only using these lethal pain pills when I get locked up)....This pain is somewhere b/t the broken shoulder surgery, and the Lumbar Discectomy.....

I'm not condoing smoking, as I did for 42 yrs, and have been smoke free for only one month. However, my dr's said this cancer wasn't related to smoking**, it's due to being a Diabetic. Diabetes, a scourge as nasty as cancer itself.....

**honestly, I'm not sure if the dr is correct on that note-

So thanks y'all, hope to check in now and then, until I return to norm whenever that may be....or if that's possible...~!~ norm ie...

Michael, I know your older than I, what's been the secret to your health over these years....??? seriously?

...good to hear from you again, Matts !...great to have you back !

Thanks 59, it's good to be able to sit at the PC once again. Think I will get a smart phone (tho' I always swore I didn't want one), simply to do my bidding when laid up....

Great to see the off season talk going on here, thanks again...!!

Rob..... I don't mean to butt into your conversion I drink Red Wine every night.

All I can say to answer your question is to say like Buck Owens I Acted Naturally. I owe much probably to the US Army PT Program, Quit drinking decades ago, would not sacrifice a military career by using drugs. Smoking was my last vice and I quit that about 10.5 years ago. That one was necessary probably had some possible COPD issues but those went after I quit. I also avoided prescription drugs like the plague, no faith in the Medical/Pharmacy types. No doubt there is a smidgeon of luck and the Lord in there. Saw a guy on the internet a couple years ago age 95 and playing the shit out of a Telecaster that's the guy I want to be like. Here and now the issue is yourself, watch those prescriptions, get strong and keep on keeping on.

Feel better Rob. That god damn kidney is a tough one. In July I had a cancerous tumor in the kidney where half was taken out, hernia surgery 2 months later and then my 100lb dog stepped on my foot and broke one of my toes 3 days after that. I've had 15 surgeries sense age 32 and will be 63 in a couple of weeks. I know the pain your in with that kidney as I couldn't even get into bed for a month and none of the pain medicine seemed to do anything but constipate the crap out of me. Just rest up (like you have a choice) and it will gradually feel better.
Steve

Steve, WOW, you've been to hell and back a few times. How are you doing now with half a kidney, any pains, or infections??? That's my biggest fear, infection(s). Being Diabetic infections come easy as you know, and sugar is as much a poison to me as cocaine.

Spot on guys on Opiates, can't quit function without 'em yet, the (at this time) necessary evil....It's clear to me how people let themselves get addicted to such, while life has so much more to offer than being wasted.....

Thanks Michael, that's a fine recipe for enjoying life/health at it's best, Sober-.... and toss in a fine Yanx game, and one has perfection, .... well, damn near... ~!~

I know I've asked you this years ago, but I've since forgotten (must be the age thing for me), what types of guitars do you own these days??? I haven't played an instrument since I was in my mid 20's.

Once had (late 60's-70's) an Epiphone ES-335, and a Ibanez Les Paul knock off. Acoustic: owned a 'Martin' Dreadnaught, I found in a garage sale for next to nothing, the guy didn't know what the hell he had.

I've always loved the Teley and Strat sound, yet my hands never seemed to fit the neck/frets....

Started piano lessons when I was 6, and wish to hell I'd never of stopped. Work took me elsewhere, and what I didn't use, I lost....

Probably a good thing, as if I had my choice back then, I'd of wanted one of everything, ie at least 1 guitar of every known variety....

I'm still playing Ovations, a Celebrity purchased in '09, and a Balladeer purchased in '13. In July of '16 I bought a Telecaster and Fender Blues Amp but sent it back on arrival because the squeeze was having health issues of her own. I started going to the Doctors with her and that has end resulted in her kicking much of the medicine prescribed. Christ the woman was turning into a zombie. A shoulder break was how we found out she'd been over prescribed. The Specialist had her bring in her meds on a visit and they man freaked told her you don't need this that ext. Over the lasy 1.5 years we've gotten her pretty coherent. That aside I got a recommendation on a Taylor 214 CE Sunburst and am looking into may a possible purchase. Still have my Fishman Amp and a Boss Acoustic Singer Pedal.

Good to see you typing again Rob. Flying home in a couple hours. Ending my 2017 german campaign. But Friday night head out to Melbourne for a week if long engineering workshop than back to begin vacation until mid Jan.

People function pretty well on a single kidney for many years. Type I DM does throw a wrinkle in there, but the progress of producing replacement human kidneys in pigs is getting close trials. You’re not Muslim are you? Lol

Rob, I still have a kidney and a half. Pain lasted for about 6 weeks or so but no infections. Thank god my surgeon did it laparoscopically as opposed to just cutting which cut down a little bit on the pain time. I was in bad enough pain I was on something called hydromorphone which helped and I took for a week or so till I stopped. I hate pain medicine but this time i had no choice.

I had this done lathroscopically, via the "Da Vinci" robotic; and yeah was prescribed the same. I really dislike this shit Hydro, gives me a migraine. Makes me wonder if the migraine(s) are supposed to sidetrack my mind from the kidney, lmao....

what really sux besides the internal pain, is knowing I've got to go back under the knife another 1 or 2 times, before all this is over, and yep, I will be ready by ST to Pitch for the Yanx ..... hell if Satchell Paige could do it, why not....??? roflol....

thanks for the insight

I hope your flight went well Tom; I don't know anyone whose logged as many flying hours as you. Good to see you coming back to the Motherland. Have you been to Melbourne before? I've known many who've spent years in Melbourne on the F5/T-38 programs. They always said they wanted to go back if not retire there,...... mostly single guys who would say: 10 girls for every 1 guy....

and nope, not a Muslim raghead camel jockey, I prefer Buffalo over Camels.:bgrin:

On swine kidney's: I had a buddy who had a pig valve in his heart, and it blew my mind that it degenerated within 3 yrs. I hope the Pig Kidney transplants are more successful long term. Hell, from what I'm hearing it's pretty tough to find a Kidney match, from a human donor....

Yet, it will be another month or two before City of Hope knows wtf to do with the LH kidney, scares the shit out of me to be quit honest....

I've controlled my blood sugar t/last few years with diet and a disciplined excercise regimen, but find myself at this point back on insulin, .... I've despised the necessary evil that is insulin, and have known to many diabetics who never make it this long; due to 'sludged arteries' from cholestrol and/or Swine Insulin- NPH 70/30. Thankfully Glargine came along....

DM T-1 is a scourge imo, as nasty as cancer itself....

this is the Da Vinci robotic surgical monster that almost made me a transgender, doh- :hcp:

Ok Rob that was gross......I don't go to Doctors anymore.

I don't either; they come to me.....

Ya'd never believe how fearful and/or superstisous most Cajuns in Luzianna are. Fearful of Black Magic; and I've never understood why, as I've never seen any legit bm. It's gotta' be superstition at its worst...
