Rodney Hood a Blazer

There's only one way to value a role player like this in my book: How likely is he to help us get out of the first round?

In 28 playoff games over the last 2 seasons, he's shot 23% from three point range. On 74 attempts, over those two years, he hit 17. Playoff PER of 6.5 on 530 minutes played, half of of those minutes feeding off LeBron and the other half feeding off one of the best-coached teams in the league.

Am I the only one who remembered our first round flame out last year when we couldn't get anybody to score the damned ball? CJ and Chief were the only guys who shot over 33% from three, and Hood does nothing to solve that problem.

Hood is a terrible fools gold pickup. He'll do just enough over the remaining games of this season so that we get to rely on him, and then we are probably fucked once more. Hopefully Curry carries the load, but I want more than that in a trade.

Jake Layman has no playoff experience, but I have a feeling Stotts will prefer Hood's bad experience to Jake's non-experience, and Hood wastes valuable minutes that could be better spent.

We didn't give up anything for Hood, so yeah, I get that people are excited to upgrade Stauskas. I just have this bad feeling that it's subtraction by addition. Hood will do just enough in the regular season to fuck up our playoffs.

530 playoff minutes have proven that the guy chokes under the big games. We already have enough of those kind of role players.

Sure, he could turn it around, but do you really think that's a better bet than just tightening the bench rotation to Curry/Layman/Collins for the playoffs?

Rodney Hood is right on schedule. 22mpg, 4pts/game, .375TS% in his 4 games. His stats are so bad that he's got a 0.7PER. Yes, that decimal point is right.

He is playing better defense than I expected, and hey, we're up 3-1 so I'm not complaining about the team's overall performance. But there was a reason he was available, and it's because he's playoff fools gold.

He is going to have one good game to fool us again.
So far, Meyers has contributed more than Hood + ET combined? This sounds like a joke !!! but it ain't.

Huge disappointment so far, waste of two 2nd round picks actually.

Let’s see what you think after the playoffs are done. Also, the Hood trade opened up a spot for Kanter. Hood isn’t worried about his PER. He’s committed to winning and doing whatever the coaching staff asks. Tonight is the wrong night to bash a player.

Like I pointed out in the other thread, I don't need the rest of the playoffs to make up my mind. Playoff stats from 600+ minutes and 32 games across 3 franchises are enough to tell me what we have have in him.

Tonight is the wrong night to bash a player.

Huh. I thought this was a discussion board, not a pep rally. I'm enjoying the win, but that doesn't mean I have to be blind to the things that clearly aren't working.

So if he has a 25 point quarter or a game winner for us in the coming months, you're going to stick to how he played in those "32 games across 3 franchises"?

One game will be nice but you want consistency... and in the Playoffs, unfortunately he had been consistently not very good.

That is not bashing or hating on Hood, just the way things have been and the way they are now.

People will always find something to complain about. It's happened all season and will probably still happen when we win the championship. Crazy.

It's about trying to improve, not complaining. He had not played well now or before. As teams get better and play smarter than Westbrook, that won't be good enough.

Trying to improve?? How does someone criticizing Hood on a message board help him improve?? That's for Dame and the coaching staff to do. All that happens here is bitching and complaining. Or in my case, defending and cheering!

Seriously? Then why have any opinion ever?
My opinion is that we have a great contending team right now and we're on the cusp of eliminating a highly touted team that was picked to defeat us in 5 or 6 games tops and we are doing this as a Team. Looking at personal stats of players that are trying to fill a role off the bench on a team they joined midseason is a waste of energy and completely meaningless and mean spirited. In my opinion.

Also, Hood already won a game for us. His huge quarter vs Charlotte gave us a win. That win could be the difference towards us having homecourt throughout the playoffs (OKC, Spurs, Rockets, Celtics/Sixers).

If we are going by single games, Jake had a lot more he helped Portland win. Heck, Simons is the reason we are playing OKC at all if we are looking at single games. Maybe we should start him.

Yes, Simons is the reason we are playing OKC. Great performance, great win. What does that have to do with Hood? When did I say we should start Hood? And Jake won us games for sure. When did I say he didn't?

How could anyone watch king play basketball and then worry about arguing with him on here? :bored:

I think the best counter-argument to my point about Hood sucking in the playoffs is that despite him sucking statistically, all 3 of the teams he's played on have made it to the second round (assuming we win out against Thunder). And they all did it with him playing 15-25mpg.

So he may suck statistically, and suck badly enough that both prior teams gave up on him, but he at least wasn't a deciding factor in playoff futility. His teams got into the second round while our teams without him were swept in the first. Outcomes matter.

There was an open dunk in game 4 he blew and Mo rebounded the miss and Mo scored. So we got the bucket on the possession in spite of Hood's statistical failure. Perhaps Hood is the kind of intangible guy where the team succeeds with him failing. :dunno:

I swear I slowly lose parts of my sanity everytime I have to read a Kingspeed post

Personally, I don't care about Hood's "production." Our bench is getting outscored by opposing benches all season long. Hood has not helped
right the ship. Of course, he hasn't had a training camp under his belt (and Neil gave up 2 2nds to get him, do he'll probably be given a contract).

His offense has been bad, but I think he’s done ok on george which is good to have another long athletic guy who can at least make PG13 work for it.
Yea I agree his defense been OK but I just liked in the next game that produces more points. If he can getting going like see him in pass then I don't see OKC even be in the ball game. I think it was game 2 when the bench had 26 and that what we need in this next game.

Vet min. Scorer off the bench. Not a defensive liability. Good attitude to name a few.

Average defender, scorer doesn't seem like it in the 20 mins he gets in the playoffs so far. Good attitude the last couple months we have him. Last year he messed up. And overall he has changed his game to getting more midrange shots, which is the opposite of what he should do.

I seriously don't see anything good enough to keep him. He doesn't really help much.

Hahahahahahaha!

lol. Hood had a great game. I was really happy to be wrong in this game. I think he is providing good defense when he's in there, and he really seemed to take advantage of opportunities tonight against a smaller player.

This game has brought his playoff PER to 5.9 for this year. So....hopefully this is something he can build on.

We would have never seen this version of Hood if it wasn't for his teammates that carried him to the second round.

Let's hope he can keep this up, we all know he's moody, but as long as he has a good mood let's ride him on the post and for the open jumper.
