Not a great source:

Just saw this on the my local sports channel.

Rondo/Scalabrine/Giddens to Memphis For Rudy gay and Mike Conley.

Edit: They are saying that it's still not done but the deal is very likely.

That would be a weird trade. I think Rondo is the best player involved, but I wouldn't have thought Memphis would think so, given that they turned down Amare when Phoenix asked for Gay.

What are you talking about? You provided a LINK! Isn't that the gold standard for evaluating a source's credibility?

what a horrible deal for Memphis.

Is it? I got the sense last year that Gay and OJ Mayo weren't getting alone too well. There were struggles at the end of games where they were not sharing the ball and it looked bad to me. I felt the team would have to choose one to committ to, and then move them for a complimentary player. If Rondo goes to Memphis, they will have a very good defensive back court, that can rumble with anybody for years to come. Mayo and Rondo in the back court would be very good for many years to come.

They give up Gay AND Conley? That's crazy talk. Rondo is good, but that's quite a bit, and I thought Mayo wanted to play point?

Mayo is going to bolt to a big market as soon as his contract runs out.

This is most likely fabricated. If it were reported on a news station it would be all over the net by now. Not by some random poster.

But for conversation sake, Memphis would have a great core to build around.

PG: Rondo
SG: Mayo
SF:
PF: Gasol
C: Thabeet

But like I said, this is most likely a fabrication from a message board attention whore.

At the same time, how many times in the past have we seen a team play a player big minutes and get their numbers up so they can ship them out of town? Jerry Stackhouse in Detroit comes to mind. So does Zach Randolph after the injury here. It would not surprise me if they played Conley just to ship him.

Rudy Gay is the best player in the trade.
You're joking, right?

PER 2008-2009 Season:

If Rondo is really available, would Jerryd Bayless and Rudy Fernandez be an attractive starting point?

Rudy Gay is the best player in the trade.

How can a 15.4 PER guy with bad defense be the best player in the trade when Rondo is an 18.8 PER guy and is a pretty good defender? :dunno:

Rudy Gay is Travis Outlaw with an ego... - I think Travis is a very nice backup to have at $4m/per - but he is not as good as Rondo...

wow. you guys really think Rudy Gay is that bad eh? I chalk it up to the talent around him more than anything. Rondo, to me has been a bit overrated as far as skills go, put anyone next to Allen, KG and Pierce and they'll look like Jesus.

What are you talking about? Rudy Gay had much better numbers when the talent around him was worse. Once OJ Mayo got there and Gay could not take any stupid shot he had his heart set on - he was exposed as a Travis Outlaw clone.

Why do you think Memphis wants Travis so bad? He can give them everything Gay does at half the price - and will bring some people to buy tickets at home games...

I don't either. What have you seen with your own two eyes that makes you think Gay is better than Rondo?
Maybe he thinks Rondo is a sexshul orientation? Not sure how you can think Gay the basketball player is even close to Rondo the basketball player so I'm going with an explanation of term confusion.

To me, Rondo's success seems more indicative of the team he plays on. When one has that much talent on it sure he's going to look like a great point guard because Ray Ray, KG and Pierce will always hit their shots. I don't put him in the category of elite PGs of the league and I don't think he has the potential to do si.

Gay, while on a crappy team, still is a good prototype of what I would think a solid SF would be. I like his athleticism and upside.

I doubt this happens.

I think people are just taking Rondo's name and plugging him into deals that work.

I think Rondo will be traded, but not in this deal.

By the way if this is true I'm going to snap. Pritchard is getting WORKED thus far in the foreplay period of the draft. ARGH!

Rondo was EVEN BETTER with Garnett out and Pierce running on fumes. It's not like Ray allen tipped him 10 rebounds a game. The guy almost averaged a triple double in a 7 game series against a suprisingly good bulls team.

if he can do it for 7 games, it means he can do it forever!

do you believe that Rondo is an elite point guard? do you believe he's worth Gay + conley?

:biglaugh: Good one!

Gay may have come to the league with the most potential, but his actual production has never lived up to his talent. I suppose he is young enough that a change of scenario could still cause things to turn around for him. Seems like a big gamble.

actually he's always had a knock of that mental block even in his pre-draft workouts. he will have the potential to be a superstar though I think, just athlethically, i don't think Memphis is the right system though.

Per 36 - would you like:

16.6 pts on 45.3% shooting, 5.3 rebounds, 1.5 turn-overs, 1 assist, 2.7 fouls, 0.9 blocks
18.3 pts on 45.4% shooting, 5.3 rebounds, 2.5 turn-overs, 1.7 assists, 2.7 fouls, 0.7 blocks

Player #1 is the 3rd option on his team (Travis), Player #2 is the 2nd option on his team (Rudy).

You will likely be able to get Travis at a low-price going forward as a bench guy. Rudy Gay will require a lot more money - and you have no idea if he will be this efficient being the 3rd option instead of 2nd (his numbers went down big time going from 1st option to 2nd option).

If you like Rudy Gay that much - you should like Travis Outlaw a lot - because at this point - they are basically the same player...

Ainge has said like 10 times in the last few days that Rondo is staying.
