Rookies

Welcome to our community

Be a part of something great, join today!

Lillard
Leonard
Freeland
Claver

And a guy in Barton that should have been a 1st.

Rebuild in full swing
But not over. After we punt on free-agency, we'll add a couple more quality rooks next season, and take a better shot at free agents. I'm excited (no green font).

the most powerful dog in the pack that will kill you if you step out of line

you are thinking about a politician

I think I'm talking about leadership, you seem to be talking about power. Not the same thing.

RE the right coach for our gaggle of rookies and sophomores: Kaleb would be the mother of all epic fails. I keep hearing that if we have a young non competitive team, we should hire Canales as head coach. Until we have a seasoned competitive team I guess, then fire him? The logic just completely escapes me. Hire the best coach on the market for crying out loud. These rookies need the best coach they can get, from day one. Plus, there is the Nate connection. Is Kaleb's offense and philosophy much different from Nate? I'd rather have an Adelman disciple or a Popovich disciple or a Jackson disciple than a Nate disciple, period. Shaw/Malone/Budenholzer....

I never viewed Brandon as a good leader either. It seemed like he was told: you're our best player, therefore you're the leader, go lead. But he didn't. He may have forced his will on the team, and he may have thought that was being a leader, but that is not leadership.

i think the idea is that kaleb would play the youngins as a mandate and not be afraid to get fired for sucking

I think this is the crux, you guys seem to be talking about 2 different things. For the conversation we were actually having though, I think 3Rain1ac is right - Roy was a more influential factor in keeping the team together than Nate. A couple of months after Roy was amnestied, the inmates started running the asylum, and got Nate fired.

Back on topic, I definitely add Elliot Williams to the list of "rookies."

he def never actually lead them to anything except 1st round defeat, he was the leader, just not a good one

Frankly I think we added too many inmates (Crawful and Felton). Maybe Roy being gone was a factor, but it was like a combination of opening part the levee and then getting hit with a tidal wave.

EDIT:

Back on topic: yes I think we need to hire a coach with a strong personality ... but I have no idea how much Olshey listens to his agent Warren Lagarrie.

that's probably why it happened so fast.

so an alpha dog doesnt lead with his power?
Power, respect, and the inherent buy-in of the pack that it is in the pack's best interest to follow the alpha dog. Is a prison guard a leader, because he achieves the compliance of his subjects? You are only a leader if someone willingly follows you. If you have to drive them forward against their will, not so much. Obviously, this analogy is far removed from the Brandon Roy question, and I'm not making that comparison. Justs waxing philosophically on this beautiful morning.

Agree.

totally

6 #1 picks!!

can i get 7?
Yes. Once we trade Batum for Williams. Next year we'll add another top 5 pick and maybe Paul will buy us another first rounder, just because that's the kind of great guy he is.

In Olshey We Trust!

in some circumstances, this might be the most valuable form of leadership
I have to concede, I have little faith in the American electorate. OK, back to basketball. :)

Yeah, that's a pretty non-typical "NBA Rookie" crop in terms of age and experience. There won't be years of waiting for "upside" to pan out (see Telfair, Webster, Outlaw, Bayless, Batum.) This time next year we should have a pretty darned good idea of which of these guys are here for the long-haul. (Except for Melvin. I'm planning on being patient with that guy.)

I'd add Elliot Williams to MM's list as essentially a rookie, since he only played 149 minutes last year. Williams is 23 this year, though, so he's an older "rookie."

In case this hasn't already been said, our youngest player is Meyers Leonard, and he's almost 21.

I had heard his biggest fault was being so light. He's like 165 at 6'6"

he never had a problem finishing through contact though from what ive read, and got to the line 5 times a game

lol. I called him Melvin. My bad.

Sorry, Lenny, I didn't mean to make your name nerdier than it already was.

Still, though, if we have to rebuild through the draft around Aldridge, I'm happy to see these guys aren't a bunch of 18 year olds. I hate wasting any more of Aldridge's prime years than we have to.

Sure, I don't disagree. Just stating that was the biggest fear about Barton. Maybe the talking heads will be right, he is the steal of the draft.

The Talking Heads are crazy! How can they be right? See:

The Talking Heads think we should Burn Down the House.

Well.... the attempt to acquire Hibbert was once in a lifetime - a chance to throw a Great Curve by retooling quickly, and make an attempt to Take (us) to the River. Instead, we lost out. We need a Clean Break... and at this stage.... maybe it is time to Burn Down the House.
