"Rose Garden" Upgrades!!

Have you been in any other arenas recently? I've only been to Moda (the Rose Garden) three times this season. Last year I was in both the Death Star (Allegiant Stadium), T-Mobile Arena and Staples... along with Mathew Knight Arena.

I get it that the Staples Center is 26 years old but T-Mobile Arena is 10 and Allegiant isn't even 5 years old. The experience at a Blazers game is just as good as a summer league game at T-Mobile Arena. I'm sure from what I've seen online and on TV that the Intuit Dome is at least a little different if not a lot.

All of that said, I'm familiar enough with T-Mobile Arena and the Rose Garden to say that there isn't a gap there... there just really isn't from a fan perspective. I'm not an architect or a structural engineer, so maybe there's something I'm missing but I just don't see a big difference between an arena that was built 10 years ago (T-Mobile) and one that was built about 32 years ago (Moda).

No bias from me man. The Moda Center just doesn't feel dated compared to T-Mobile Arena... from my laypersons perspective. If it felt dated, I would want the team or city or whoever to build something new that would give us a better experience as Blazers fans... it's just not dated in any notable way. I do think the update of the jumbotron or whatever we're calling those these days will be a welcome modification.

Maybe I'm missing something though. So what are your major concerns or complaints about the Moda Center???

I’m biased to the cleanliness of a building or I’m sharing what I’ve seen?
I will post pictures in this thread of the upcoming road trip and the conditions of these arenas. The RG is the cleanest in the league. Spotless corridors. You literally see rats running around in Philly/DC/Cleveland/Chicago

Any electronics definitely are out of date almost as fast as they are installed. Our big screen is very outdated….but shit, Houston (another shithole) were the first ones to get a gigantic big screen a few years ago….it’s already a dinosaur. But believe the Aldo lady was talking about the arena in general. That’s a whole other story. Shit, PHX is one of the oldest if I’m not mistaken, and is almost on par with the RG for cleanliness.
 
I definitely don't think we have a sub-par experience with Moda - it was well built at the start and they've maintained it very well (and continually upgraded concessions and the like). But the seats, those do need to get replaced. I don't really have other needs (though more video boards which they're now providing with more stats is appreciated). I went to the Capitol One Center in DC a few years ago for hockey, and it was way below our standards - small concourses, poor lighting, etc.
 
I've been in a few others (SA, Dal, LAL) and the Rose Garden still doesn't feel that outdated to me. The video board needs an upgrade, even from the looks of the new one it could be better, but overall I still think the RG is on par with most of the arenas in the league.

I guess this is fair. I just feel when an arena is 32 years it’s extremely old. I’m use to new arenas after 25 or so years. But you’ve been to more arenas than I have. Although i have been to Matthew Knight arena few times, but I guess your right

The new seats they added to the RG (tho from what I've been told, somewhat uncomfortable to those who are tall or heavy) made the Moda look a LOT nicer.

I'm glad they are updating the video screens (etc) and I wish they'd use the court for the tournament.

One thing I've always noticed about the Moda is the camera placement. It's almost impossible to NOT instantly know if the games are played in Portland, due to where the cameras are in relation to other teams. I'm not sure if they're higher or lower, but their placement seems to be unique. Maybe @THE HCP has some insight in this?

Not sure I'm saying this right. It kinda feels like other arenas feel big time, whereas the Moda feels like it's closer to the cameras/not as big.

I don't know what it is, but it just feels different than any other arena (and most of them feel the same).

I’ve been to almost all the arenas (haven’t been to Chase yet) and I seem to remember Denver having an especially large screen.

The post was that the "city owns the stadium."

The city obviously owns the land ... it's literally in the city. That says absolutely nothing about the facility built on that land.

Didn't go to chase for a basketball game, but for a concert. I wasn't really impressed by chase center. It's nice, but I've seen better.

I don't know what the fuck you're talking about. I posted a link to an article that very clearly states that the team sold the rose quarter, the moda center and veteran's memorial coliseum to the city... they sold it all at a very discounted rate. They made an agreement as part of the sale that the city would use a portion of the revenue that these properties (not the land but the businesses on the land) bring in to make specific upgrades and maintenance to the Moda center and surrounding areas. Also that the Blazers would stay here and play here until at least 2030 and have an option to play here even longer under a lease extension also agreed to in this deal.

Read the article but if you already did that and think it "says absolutely nothing about the facility built on that land" then you'll have to either reread it or take my word for it that it says specifically that the facilities were sold to the city, with those conditions instead of the team renewing the lease they had on the land.

they haven't done a major remodel. built in 1999, new screen in 2013, no other arena projects other than that. the rose garden is still older by 4 years though making it the oldest arena in the league that hasn't gone through a major redevelopment project.

miami heat arena (also built in 99) got new video boards, broadcast center and audio system last season ($50M total).

last year, portland (the city) announced a $61.5M maintenance project at the moda--including electrical and tech updates, which i'm assuming this video work is a part of. but it's a bit smaller than the investment in other cities: the other nba arena redevelopment projects are in the $100M-$250M investment pricerange (Suns: $250M, Rockets: $185M, Bulls: $188M, Jazz: $125M, Knicks: $1B, Wolves: $129M, Celtics: $170M.)

Haven’t noticed it that much. What feeds do you watch if you’re watching a NON Blazers game? ESPN/TNT or the other team’s broadcast? Just wondering what show you are seeing?
Or are you talking about OUR show in a different arena?

Everywhere OUTSIDE of the court itself. When somebody say “The Arena” I am thinking about the entire arena, what you see and what you don’t.

I do know that the majority of the camera set up locations are pretty much the same. Have to go by the Leagues guidelines with that…..but there is VERY different lighting in some of these arenas. Mostly LA/NY/Brooklyn. They all have what they are calling the theatre lighting. VERY expensive. I know that we looked into it.
