<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">In response to a reader's question, the always acerbic Charley Rosen has come up with another list, this one of the great underachievers in the history of basketball. Vince Carter didn't make the cut--former Net Derrick Coleman did--but just missed. Of VC, Rosen writes: "Despite his stupendous talents, he seems to have little understanding of how to play winning basketball." </div>

VC lead his team to game 7 of the eastern confrence finals with a team that didn't play good.

tahts bull! just cause he was on the raptors doesent mean he cant lead his team to winning-basketball..tahts like saying micheal redd cant lead his team to a winning season because his team is bad but he is great

Or that Paul Pierce sucks because the Celtics are a bad team.

yeah..or that KG sucks because he cant suceed with his team..same with allen iverson

What are you talking about? Didn't play good? The raps were a very solid team. They were built around Carter. They didn't have the most talent but they definitely played good and helped elevate Carter to his superstar status.

no kg love? lol, just playin. i think its pretty safe to say that vc has shed all that bull with his play in nj so far.

i remember at the end of the season wen he got traded to the nets they improved like 10 games from wen they didnt have him..as soon as he got on the team he made an impact

The thing that ticks me off is how much hating we are getting. How many articles are their where they talk negative about Carter? Enough already. It's basically the same kind of information written by a different person.

The Nets as a whole are getting it too. Constantly I see "Nets can't do this", "Nets can't win that". It's like as soon as we aquired Carter, negative writing towards us began. Seems like we didn't get as much even when traded away Martin.

The offseason's been slow, so these writers need to dig up something to catch readers' attentions. Some of his explanations are terrible.

Well, before we got Carter, we were 1) not even talked about, 2) always seen as underdogs despite the finals appearences.

Rosen's right. Vince is a whiny bitch that'll never win anything. He's the epitome of why we can't win any golds in international competition. All style, very little substance when it comes down to real crunch time. You know, when real, tough ballplayers step up and deliver. Vince is quite possibly the most athletically gifted baller on the planet, but he doesn't translate that into winning.

And spare me the KG and AI talk. You're talking about two of the toughest competitors in the league. To mention them in the same breath with Vagisil Vince is the ultimate disrespect for two true badasses.

Or is it Vinny Vagisil?

and one of your favorite players is tony kukoc.

Carter is underachieving... He is an exceptional athlete, but despite his abilities he isn't winning. I really think he should focus more on the team rather than his individual stats. There's no question that he can score, he's playing like he hasn't been taking shots all his career and he's out shooting every chance he gets. He's like a rookie trying to prove something every time. Carter's past that, he already made his mark and it's time to build on that name. Vince already has 10 seasons under his belt. Most player goes through that phase of proving themselves, Magic, Bird, Jordan, Shaq has been in that situation, Kobe is going through that. But they got pass that. But the past 2 seasons with Kidd has had an impact on Carter, and I think we can expect more maturity from Carter with Jason Kidd around. And when that continues, Vince Carter will underachieve no more.

Ya that's why Vince already HAS a gold medal, and actually lead that team in scoring, and jumped over a 7 footer. Now thats badass. But then again you probably didn't know that he was the best player on our last gold medal team because you have very little basketball knowledge. That's alright though, because I'm sure your time is well spent coming up with lame names like "Vagisil Vince. Good One.

^ exactly what i was going to point out as well

but in a way i do belive Vince is an underachiever, he was compared to mj along with kobe in his first 3 years if he worked hard enough and learned to play defense all the time, i have no doubt in my mind that Vince would be on the level of kobe right now or at least very very close to it

And your infatuation with jumping over people and pretending that gold medals (barely) won six years ago show Vince Carter's mental toughness has a lot to do with why basketball is in such a sorry state in this country.

I said Vince is ridiculously talented (RIDICULOUSLY) but he's a loser and a candy-ass with a rock star ego. He'll never win anything because guys like that (see Stephon Marbury) don't ever win. He's simply not tough enough (mentally or physically) to ever get it done.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting VinsanityVC15:</div><div class="quote_post">and one of your favorite players is tony kukoc.

Any real ball fan (not And One, 1-on-1, 'God, I'm dominating you, aren't I?'-fans) realizes that Kukoc was a sweet player -- obviously not a physically gifted player, but a player. If more people in this country realized that being a baller isn't necessarily about how high you jump, or how much of a carry you can get away with on your crossover, and more about hitting open jumpers, finding cutters and being able to penetrate to create not just for yourself but for a teammate now and again, we'd be a lot better off.

Guess what though? We're learning that the hard way. Thank God for LeBron.

Why is it that I find so many touchy Canadians on this site? You guys need to start looking into some of that fine bud you've got up there and lighten up a little.

For all of you VC15 fans, Canadian and American, no matter how much you might love Vince Carter, he doesn't know you and isn't related to you, so don't take a little criticism of he and his vagina so seriously. Christ.

i shoulda known that a lamar odom and toni kukoc fan would be terrible a disses

Yea Vince was a real ***** in the olympics...

besides the fact that he broke a refs arm, shoved players to the floor, and dunked over a 7 footer

First of all, Birdman, you're a fan of Odom, so all your criticisms of Vince apply just as much if not more to Odom. Secondly, Vince was badass before he got jumpers knee, so if anything, it was injuries due to his insane vert. that slowed him down. Jumper's knee prevented VC from catching up to Kobe. Observe Amare's production to go down this year because of that same injury. And how did he "barely" win a gold? He was the best player on that team, and he was badass the whole Olympics. I can see why a Celtics fan would hate him though considering it seems he always burns you guys with big games or game-winners. Maybe your American bud is a little too potent and is going to your head.

Jumper's knee and microfracture surgery (what Amare, Allan Houston, Penny Hardaway and JKidd had) are two ENTIRELY different things, my friend. Bad, bad comparison.

Did you watch the 2000 Olympics? We barely beat Lithuania.

Lamar Odom doesn't go down like he got shot in the face and writhe around on the ground like some kind of European soccer player with an excess of estrogen every time somebody touches him.

I'll say it again, Vince Carter is a ridiculous talent with as much ability (probably more) than anyone alive. But he's simply not a winner. He's a regular season star (and slam dunk champ) period.

Good thing he had some real toughness (KG, Glove, etc.) on that 2000 Olympics team to pull him through.

None of those three things prove true mental toughness, at all. You're delusional if you think they do. I'd expect more from somebody using that screen name.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting TheCh0sen0ne238:</div><div class="quote_post">i shoulda known that a lamar odom and toni kukoc fan would be terrible a disses</div>

And I've always known that people from New Jersey are border-line retarded.

This year Carter will prove to all he is a winner. Playing on the Nets with Jason Kidd and Richard Jefferson will het him. Last year our bench wasn't as good as it will be this year. We have Marcus Williams, Eddie House, Josh Boone, and other who will rpovide enough energy of the bench to let us win games. Nenad Krstic is also improving and that will also help the Nets get far this year. Vince may not have been a winner but this year he will be.

People always slightly overatted how good Vince could be IMO. He does lack the mental toughness to be as good as he can be, but his mental toughness is both overatted and underatted by people. Some people act like Vince doesn't produce down the stretch, which seems to be disproved every season, but some are still living back when he missed the shot against Philly. People also act like his flailing has any relation to mental toughness, many players flail, only some get criticized for it, depends on how much you likethe guy. Others act like Vince does all he can to win, and I can't agree, he's too willing to take a backseat to others at times, he doesn't want to be the man. I don't agree with him not knowing how to play winning basketball, he hasn't really been a "loser" in his career depending on how you define a loser. He hasn't won anything big, but many players are in that boat, it's not like he's ever been on a championship caliber team in the first place.

I do agree that if someone critized Vince extremely, they would have to criticize a guy like Odom even more. Odom has even more skills than Vince, not the athleticism, but skills are more important, yet his mental toughness might be even worse. Odom has the skills and ability to play every position, can rebound, pass, has shooting ability (though far from a shooter), can handle the ball very well for a 6'10 guy, but can't get out of being more than just and above average player. He's way too passive, and doesn't take control at times he should. He's not even a reliable second option player, and he should easily be one.

I really have to disagree with the part that vince Carter takes a "backseat" and doesn't want to be the "man". I really, highly doubt that. I hate to bring this up again, but the man shoots like there's no tomorrow. Really now... Carter taking a backseat? He forces more shots than any other player. I know i'm going to get a lot of flack (again) for this, but let's call a spade a spade, Vince Carter takes most of the shots for the Nets. He loves the spotlight, he loves having the ball, and he definitely likes taking the crucial shots.

Carter takes the most shots for the Nets because he is the best scorer. Carter is unselfish is you have ever watched a Nets game you will see he doesn't force shots like Kobe does. Vince plays avarege for 3 quarters and for the last quarter he plays better and takes it to another level.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Nets game you will see he doesn't force shots like Kobe does.</div>

My problem with Carter is he starts taking too many three-pointers. He has the ability to get to the basket on each play, but he settles on the 3 instead. That is really annoying for me. Why take the less percentage shot when you could take the high percentage shot? In my eyes he sometimes looks like he is afraid of the contact,so he stays on the perimeter.

^^Yeah, thats true he falls in love with the mid range, he should attack the basket get fouled and hit free throws.
