Re: Roy Absent during National Anthem

I'm not a homer, I'm a life-long Blazer fan who thought the days of stories that bring a negative light to my team were over! I served my country and I believe this to be a non issue.

Re: Roy Absent during National Anthem

Are you kidding?? I definitely see a point in writing about it. I had no idea that Roy stood in the tunnel during the national anthem. What the hell is that all about??

His explanation sounds fishy to me, as well. It sounds like he DOES have a political motivation, and he's just afraid to voice it. I salute Canzano for reporting on this. Count me as one of the people disturbed by this revelation.

Apparently this isn't anything new for Roy. It's old news.

Canzano probably sesnse some Roy resentment right now after the Miller thing and is trying to capitalize on it. People with a brain can see right through it.

Do what your do, Roy.

HCP, you're great and all, but you are a homer . . . not that there is anything wrong with that.

Re: Roy Absent during National Anthem

Well I never knew Roy did that and found it interesting. And I too think it is a strange ritual that hope isn't copied by anyone else on the team.

You know, I do too think it's strange. And am surprised by all the Canzano hate over this. Maybe it's because many of them are unpatriotic and could care less about the country. But what Brandon Roy is doing is a show disrespect for a country that's been awfully good to him. More like a slap in the face. There should be nothing a wrong with a taking a moment or two and honoring your home country. And really, Roy deciding to take the moment of time for his quiet time is a sign of individualism. Whether any of us want to hear it or not.

I'm glad you served your country, and my hat's off to you. However, I happen to think that when the star of the team is standing in the tunnel during the national anthem, it is a major story. This pisses me off tremendously, to tell you the truth. It can't be a coincidence that Roy chooses that particular moment to stand in the tunnel--he's doing it for a reason, and I salute Canzano for reporting it. I already think less of Roy, and will continue to do so until he gives a good reason for his behavior.

And you're the ultimate homer, apparently. This IS a story, and I salute Canzano for writing about it.

Really? Someone does something that is different, that you don't personally have an explanation for and you take that to mean he has a political motivation?!?

Someone does something that is different, that you don't personally have an explanation for and that disturbs you?

Mmmmmm, OK.

Re: Roy Absent during National Anthem

According to Canzano, apparently, Blake uses the bathroom .27 more times than other players during Blazer home games That percentage drops by .42 during road games, though.
That's bullshit, and you know it. What Roy is doing is not trivial.

Re: Roy Absent during National Anthem

It may not be trivial, but I think it's a non-issue. Typical Canzano butt-sniffing, though. No doubt some are concerned. No problemo.

Re: Roy Absent during National Anthem

I'm disappointed......my respect for Roy has gone down a few notches this year. Still way up there but not nearly what it was.

Re: Roy Absent during National Anthem

I don't see why it can't be trivial for some and not trivial for others.

The National Anthem (and not participating in it) can be a controversial subject, which is why I found the article interesting.

For the record, if Roy has been doing this for 2 years and it isn't politically motivated and he performs the way he does, I don't care. But I do want to know about it and make my own decision rather than not know about it.

Let's just say you find it detestable. Do you then quit rooting for him as a Blazer player? If not, then it effectively becomes trivial (relatively insignificant). Right?

So Roy has a problem with the national anthem of this country?? The same country that allows him to make millions of dollars playing a game he loves? The country with the greatest freedom and opportunity in the world, where his people have a higher standard of living than any country in Africa? The country where a black man is president, and a black women is the richest female in the country, and a black man sits on the Supreme Court?? The country which millions of people around the world are fighting to get into??

Who said he had a problem with it??

Such a republican thing to say. You are ridiculous.

I agree, and in my mind it is trivial. But I decided it was trivial based on the facts and not because Canzano wrote it so it must be trivial.

But clarly others have strong opinions about it, which is why i think it is an intersting topic, even if trivial . . . all of a sudden I'm in the mood for a little trivial pursuit . . . always pick the orange if you get a choice.

Re: Roy Absent during National Anthem

It's odd that the Anthem is sung at most sporting events, which have little to do with any particular country anymore, but is not sung anywhere else (with minor exceptions).

Without spectator sports the song would have died of mis-use decades ago.

Re: Roy Absent during National Anthem

Who said he had a problem with it??
Anybody who chooses to be off the floor and out of sight during the national anthem, rather than standing at attention with his teammates and coaches, must have a problem with the significance of the anthem. I can't believe it's a coincidence that Roy chooses this particular moment to stand in the tunnel.

See everybody! This is the EXACT BULLSHIT that this article was trying to stir up! Now all the angry people will have to tune into his show for further "inside" info!

Re: Roy Absent during National Anthem

"He said he'll stop doing it if it bothers enough people. "

If he truly had a problem with the anthem he wouldn't say this. It sounds like nothing more than just a quiet moment to himself, and you making definitive opinions about it makes you look foolish.

Your ignorance is breathtaking.

How do you know that he has a problem with the national anthem? Canzano said he is praying. Do you know what he is praying about? Do you? Maybe he prays during the national anthem to privately thank god for this great country.

Seriously dude, who are you to say that Brandon Roy doesn't love God and Country like I assume that you do just because he doesn't display it in the exact same way as you.

Have you forgotten what this great country is about?

I can't believe it's a coincidence that Roy chooses this particular moment to stand in the tunnel.

Either that or the ritual he has developed to perform the best in the game includes a private time during the national anthem.

If that is the case, hard to argue with the results.

Hardly. It could mean that he's just politically correct enough to stop doing it if it hurts his public image.

I don't see why it arbitrarily has to be the rule that they (or anyone, for that matter) participates. Sounds like the classic case of, "That's the way we've always done it."

For that matter, Brandon may be the most patriotic person in the country..................in his own way.
