I see a lot of criticism of Roy and Paul together, not obviously in a deal breaker way other then one poster who's clearly working for Kissinger (read the Devil) and Associates as a lawyer. My question is how much would they impact one another's game?

Are we SURE it would decrease their relative prowess?

Might it not be more true that they would in fact make the eachother better? Watching them in the All-Star game with it's TOTAL lack of defense (although Roy has a sweet burn of LeBron's attempted swat) what I saw was two guys with astronomical basketball IQ's being perfectly in the right place at the right time.

Note CP3's reads on Roy right in the perfect place. Note Roy's tap steal to Paul:

[video=youtube;XJ8u9Ygn_gI]

Yes, it's not strong evidence but it's the only tape we have of the two together. I see two guys who have a feel for the game that is only surpassed by maybe 5 guys in the league if that. Part of what makes Roy so amazing is his feel for the game and the same is true with Paul.

I see the two being greater then the sum of their parts even if both take a hit to their stat sheets, I see greater efficiency and durability from sharing the load on offense.

I see Paul carrying us in the first half and Roy closing games out.

So Gentlemen, Ladies of Sportstwo what say you?

I think Roy becomes more efficient, but less spectacular (scoring and assists down).

However, I think LMA and Oden (or Batum if Oden is traded instead) both instantly become better.

The big unknown is would Roy really suffer in his FG% by not touching the ball nearly as much?

I say, if Brandon can fit with CP3, than thats a Roy problem not a Chris Paul problem and not a Nate problem

Maybe its time to look to trade him

and thats a big IF

I agree with that but the question is what do you think the result of the two playing will be?

I understand this is borderline blasphemy, but if we can get CP3 for batum and change and it's a problem, can we swing Roy straight-up for Melo?

I think Roy would be a little less good alongside Paul. A large part of Roy's value is his ability to handle the ball and make plays for others, and that would be diminished alongside a superstar point guard who derives virtually all of his offensive value from possessing the ball and either scoring it or setting someone else up.

I don't think Roy would be bad or anything alongside Paul...I think he could still be very good. I just don't think Paul and Roy can both optimize their abilities alongside one another.

which one's better?

1 2 3
CP3/Matthews/Melo
CP3/Roy/Matthews
Miller/Roy/Batum

I'd be a tad scared for our defense just a tad. Batum had the length to guard 4 spots and hasn't stopped megastars but been able to slow them down or piss them off enough to throw off their game. I know it's going to be impossible but I hope cho uses his azn genius and or his braces to hypnotize them to not include batum Roy oden or aldridge /pipedream

Fuck Melo! CP3/BRoy backcourt would light this league up!

Do you think it WILL be a problem? Also, I would die a little inside if we traded Roy for Melo even if Roy was being an inflexible bitch about playing next to Paul.

My money is on Roy's scoring going UP and assists way down. I think Roy would be in the right place at the right time so often it would absolutely dazzle other teams.

After the Batum based trade I see happening here's our starting lineup.

PG: Paul
SG: Roy
SF: Matthews
PF: LMA
C: Oden

If everyone's healthy that's possibly the hardest team to guard IN THE LEAGUE. Three automatic double teams (trust me Oden was getting there and most smaller teams HAD to double him after a few possesions) with two deadly shooters, LMA from mid-range and Matthews from three.

Yes, I am aware of the heat and no doubt LeBron/Wade/Miller/Bosh combo would be on par if not surpassing us, but if Oden develops like he should with Paul, then OMFG!

Hmm well number three is right out. Melo's ability to fill it up is well known and probably in most situations that one might be the best.

That said, here's why I give number two the edge. Roy is on par with LeBron and Kobe in clutch play and BETTER then anyone else in the league. I think people are underselling Roy's scoring alongside Paul. He hasn't been able to move without the ball with a double team requisite PG getting in the paint. Also I think he would get along WAYYYY better with Paul then with Miller. Just a hunch. I often felt like Miller and Roy actively AVOIDED passing to one another.

While I view them as comparable talents, I just like Roy's game better than Melo's (though I do like Melo too). I'd want to first try and make Paul/Roy work before I explored trading Roy for Melo. Just for aesthetic reasons. I suspect Melo might be the better fit alongside Paul, though.

Shoot me now:
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=2cdk88j

POR out: Roy, Batum, Miller, JPEC, Bayless, Rudy, Camby
POR In: CP3, 'Melo, Okafor
CP3 gets his superfriends lineup, only with LMA and Oden instead of Amare.
NOH Out: CP3, Okafor
NOH In: Batum, Miller, K-Mart, Bayless, Rudy
Basically the same trade, but K-Mart instead of JPEC.

DEN Out: K-mart, Melo
DEN In: Roy, Przy, Camby
Get Roy locked up for 5 years for Melo, who won't re-up. Trade K-mart's expiring for JPEC and Camby.

Obviously there's wiggle room for cash, picks, Euro rights, minimum contracts, etc.

We're left with: (iirc)
CP3/Armon/Patty
Matthews/
Melo/Babbitt
LMA/Okafor/Dante
Oden/Okafor/JP

Dont see how Denver would do it, especially cause he is almost ready to sign an ext.

obviously, if he signs, DEN doesn't do it. But he's had an offer on the table for almost a month, and hasn't signed it. The contract's not getting any better than it is, so what's he waiting for?

Trying to get a 2 year deal so he can opt out at the same time as CP3?

my best guess

why would he need to opt out if he's already playing with CP3 in Portland?

You're just getting greedy now. I'm also not sure that's a better lineup. Roy >>>>>>> Melo at closing out games. We should have tons of scoring with Roy/LMA/Oden set up by CP3 so the real question then is closing out close games. My money is on Roy over anyone in the league not named LeBron and Kobe. Hell I think Roy is better then LeBron at closing out games assuming LeBron could only take two steps like everyone else. Roy's a WAYYYY better shooter. LeBron >>>>>>>> Roy at everything except clutch shooting where Roy is a true god among men only really surpassed by Flowbee again this is in my extremely biased opinion.

You have to try the Roy/CP3 back court first. If DEN was open to that trade it will still be there at the Trade Deadline if for some unfathomable reason Roy + CP3 isn't the chocolate and peanut butter back court we all know it is.

While I agree Brandon is great in the clutch, you're wrong about him being better than LeBron in the clutch. James beats Roy in nearly every category of clutch play.

Lastly, with a lineup of (presumably) Paul/Matthews/Melo/LMA/Oden, how often do you think games would be close enough that you have to worry about clutch play? I'd say not very often, and if they are, CP3 (statistically speaking) is more clutch than Roy.

Yea, i thought it was NY cause he went to school at Syracuse

Easy mistake to make, and a lot of announcers do. But he grew up in Baltimore, and still does a bunch of his charity work there.

what's the rule on trades? If it's on TV, it's dead? :stirthepot:
