Roy to retire today????

It's a stupid rule, but if that's how the CBA is structured, then that's how it is, fair or not.

To my knowledge we only know that is how the old CBA was structured. I haven't heard any confirmation that the new CBA is the same. In fact with the Miles fiasco I would be surprised if they didn't tweak the whole process.

Thanks Brandon. I'll be wearing my #7 jersey with pride tomorrow here at Disneyworld.

Sad news, but it's the right thing to do. The guy is financially secure and there's no reason to put his body in further jeopardy. I'm sure it took a lot of courage to make this decision on his part. I respect Roy now more than ever. He could have sat on the bench and collected his contract for the next four seasons, but he didn't. You will be missed Brandon.

its so sad, but there is the small silver lining of him getting out before he became a cripple

Like others I'm actually glad he retired (if indeed he has) as its for the best for him to call it quits. His knee problems started well before Portland drafted him and he gave all that he had health wise to the game. It would have killed me to see him ignore the realities of his situation and end up needing a wheelchair or cane to get around in his 40s... hopefully he never does. So while it's sad that his brief but brilliant career has ended, it's also good to see him make the tough but correct decision and save the last bit of his knees for a hopefully long & productive life ahead. Way to be the man one more time Brandon!

His number will be retired

Until papers are filed. It's not true. He will Brett Farve us for the next 5 years

My last interview with Brandon. If you aren't on Facebook, sorry!

Re: NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

I don't see Brandon doing anything in the future regarding the media. He has never been one to need to be on camera and in my opinion doesn't really have the voice for broadcasting.
Now that you mention it, he does kinda have that Mike Tyson thing going. LOL

Interesting quote from Chad Buchanan:

We would receive cap and tax relief from the 1-year anniversary from when the injury was deemed to occur. And that's a detail we're still trying to iron out with the new rules.

It seems to me that the injury that led to Roy having to retire dates from the end of the 2009-2010 season when Ron Artest stepped on Brandon's foot as he cut to the basket. After that, it was a constant downhill slide. It would be at least a bit of a silver lining to this crappy dark cloud if Roy's salary came off the cap now instead of next April.

Nah, he played last year, it'll just go off of last game played, April 2012 he'll come off, I would guess.

Isaiah Thomas @Isaiah_Thomas2

This season is dedicated 2 my brother Brandon Roy! He was on his way 2 b 1 of the best EVER. Sucks when bad things happen 2 GREAT people #HT

I really respected Roy, this is a shame.

Best of luck to him.

This is crazy, a great player's career cut short.

With Oden & Roy both on the up and out, LMA & Matthews are the future. Good players though, none the less.

You can post here again? Congrats. :]

The sad thing is, this kind of thing happens. Great players have their career cut short from injuries. Penny Hardaway is a good example. Penny actually reminds me a lot of Roy in that they were both very versatile players.

Since I don't want to take the time to read the rest of the thread, I am sorry if this has been asked and or answered.

Was the new CBA rule about medically retired players altered at all to prevent a team from signing Roy and playing him 1 minute for ten games or whatever to screw Portland?

Wade:
I want 2 show my respect 2 1 of the best 2 guards in the game 2day..the game will miss Brandon Roy as much as he will miss the game..#2Soon

Rudy:
Thanks to B ROY for making us enjoy this sport and thanks for helping me in my transition to the NBA. I hope that this new stage goes well.

Probably not, but I don't think Roy would do it anyway.

A) He's making a lot more money than Miles was.

B) I just don't think he's that kind of guy. I don't think he would screw over the organization like that.

Yes, it would be nice if the NBA could give us a break with a generous interpretation of the rule. If any team deserves a break, it's this one.

I agree with BNM above, if a doctor independent from the team approves its a career ending injury why does it matter how many games he plays years down the road? Bill Walton could stand at half court for a few second of a game today. They needed to rewrite the rule and it will be another failure of the league in drafting a new CBA if this wasn't addressed.

I will say this. I'm glad to be in this forum. There have been a lot of you guys that where very hard on Roy; and we had the homers like myself. But after the news, all of us paid tribute to a great player. Shows a ton of class that many of you put aside your differences and gave props to a great player. Thanks guys!

I gave my girlfriend 7" of pleasure last night in honor of Roy.

Then I had a premature turnover and Nate benched me for the rest of the night.
