Chad Ford article continues information flow on Rubio. He seems very serious about coming to the NBA soon.

Rubio hasn't filed a lawsuit. Instead, he has asked for arbitration to settle the dispute. A source said that Rubio has retained a highly regarded labor law firm in Barcelona to represent him. If the dispute cannot be settled, a civil legal action would be next for Rubio.

Rubio has already informed teams that he won't do workouts, but he might visit them to meet the front office and owners. The source said if visits happen, they will be to Los Angeles, Oklahoma City and Sacramento -- owners of the first, third and fourth picks in the draft.

The source said it's likely that Rubio and his camp will skip visits to Memphis. The Grizzlies hold the No. 2 pick, but the source said Rubio is leery about playing in Memphis after two other Spanish players -- Pau Gasol and Juan Carlos Navarro -- had bad experiences there.

Hahaha... I just keep laughing at Chris Wallace. What a joke.

Good stuff. Maybe they'll be open to dealing the pick, then. If you don't want to draft Rubio, it seems like the next group of prospects aren't that far apart in talent and a team like Memphis might be amenable to be dropping back a bit and adding another asset.

So if Portland can acquire a lower lottery pick (like 5 or 8), maybe they can make something happen.

Rubio already met with Memphis' executives when they visited Spain. That's probably why he is not visiting the city.

So let's say the Blazers obtain #8 from New York for Sergio and change. Can they then immediately package the #8 to Memphis with Outlaw, a re-signed Frye, and all of our 2nd round picks for the #2 and Filler? Does this work? What would the Blazers have to take back, like a bad contract?

Do the Blazers really want another Euro Point Guard?

Interesting article out of the Memphis paper. Seems like NY has been rumored for the No. 2 pick in a trade with their No. 8 pick. If the Blazers somehow got the No. 8 from NY, they could be in the running for No. 2 then, right?

http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/2009/jun/09/griz-expect-rubio-visit-for-workout/

As the rumor mill churns, the Griz have been approached by several teams about acquiring the second overall pick. Boston, Houston and New York are said to be among the most recent suitors.

Boston and Houston would likely have to offer an established NBA player or two, given that neither team owns a first-round pick. New York owns the eighth pick and likely would want to move up for the opportunity to take Rubio.

damn you and your reason for ruining such a hilarious joke. I mean, getting snubbed for the cities of Oklahoma City and Sacramento? And the only thing the Clippers have going for them (in the eyes of a prospect) is that they're in LA.

I posted this over on the REALgm trade board...

How about this:

Blazers Send: Sergio, Outlaw
Blazers Get: #8 (curry?), Jaric

We move up in the draft and grab a player we like...(whoever that may be), by taking on a bad contract and sending out some talent. May be too much to pay with jaric's bad contract (14 million dollar hit).

NY Sends: DLee, #8
NY Gets: #2, Sergio

They move way up in the draft to get Rubio (who could get the endorsements in NY to pay off the buyout), help their Lebron plan (cap space w/o resigning Lee), and get a Spanish friend for Rubio. It works out really well for the knicks cap-wise and Dantoni-fit-wise.

AND no knick fans Portland does not want Nate Robinson instead of the #8.

Mem Sends: #2, Jaric
Mem Gets: DLee, Outlaw

They don't take on a ton more salary than Jaric, and get a legit 4. Not another young draft star but Rubio wouldn't play there and thabeet is a project so this is probably better for their fans as far as gaining immediate young talent and they've also been rumored to be after Outlaw for a while.

Conley/Mayo/Gay/Lee/Gasol
with Outlaw and Arthur as key subs...

not bad at all

Of course it'd have to be two separate moves actually because you can't package a sign and trade. So really it'd be a Dlee/Outlaw/Jaric move, then a #2/#8/Sergio move.

I don't know what everyone is so excited about? I would love nothing more than those assholes in Memphis to end up with an overrated point guard.

What, you want them to get Telfair? Or Sergio?

Maybe KP can promise to only slightly pritch-slap them in the future if they agree to a trade with us that favors us hugely.

Wasn't it Memphis who Pritchslapped the shit out of us this past year?

At this point, I don't think it's humanly possible for Sergio to be considered overrated anymore. More than half the site wants to "dump him" for a second-round pick or two.

At this point, if we got the #2 pick, I'd sincerely hope we draft James Harden as I think he'll be the best player to come out of this draft. But we don't need a #2 pick. Yes, go for #8 if we can get it cheaply, but don't really need to get any higher.

did you watch the guy in big games? all i remember is the NCAA games and the PX championship where that guy DISAPEARED.

It's impossible to trade for Eddy Curry before July 1. Absolutely impossible. Not like "let's trade Przy, Outlaw, and Blake for LBJ" impossible, because that could actually work according to CBA rules. But any trade for Eddy Curry cannot, b/c he has an ETO. If he uses the ETO by July 1, he's a free agent and can't be traded. If not, he's under contract, but that goes into effect at the beginning of the moratorium, iirc.

agreed. Harden lost me with that dismal performance in the PAC-10 Tournament and the NCAA Tournament.

Good thing that we can't trade for him, just in case KP goes insane and tries it. But why even bring up Eddy Curry?

Psst...Stephen Curry with the #8 pick. I assume he could be agreed to be traded after he is drafted, as is the case with all trades in the draft.

Because, everybody wants a another underachieving lard ass on their team with a ton of off the court issues.

I was under the impression that many of the trades above were saying we'd take back Eddy Curry's bad contract with the #8 pick. Weren't there a bunch of "2 Curry" jokes, and saying that E.Curry could be substituted for J. Jeffries' bad contract?

I'll go look.

Yeah, that and the fact that Kevin Pritchard actually has a brain.

Well, in this thread, the poster says (#8 pick - curry?). I took that to mean Stephen Curry since to move Eddy Curry for the #8 pick.

You're right. I'd been catching up on the "Sergio a Knick" thread, and thought that's what was being talked about when the Knicks were brought up. My reading comprehension fail.

For the record, though, here are the posts in the "sergio a knick" thread that talk about Eddy Curry specifically (or his contract):
Fez: 37/81/88/94
Minstrel: 39/41/92
Alex: 45
RickyRubio: 52/54/61
CrimsonCat: 53/60/63/89/96/101
Mook: 59
RR7: 78
Andalusian: 79
BNM: 79/146
TraderEd: 161

So I wasn't totally crazy....
