We should offer a draft day deal for him. The trade could be agreed to on draft day but officially go through on July 1st when Shawne Williams contract is tradeable.
Wesley/Thomas/Nolan/Williams/ #11.
It will cost us little cap room since we send out a number of small expiring salaries. Gay is a massive upgrade over Wesley. Yes he is overpaid but he is worth the incremental cost over a midlevel player such as Wes. Gay is a known commodity instead of the crapshoot of a pick panning out at #11. He is a contributor now instead of being many years away from his peak, we need to assemble talent while LaMarcus is still in his prime. He could be available since Memphis is near the luxury tax, they would then get the benefit of being able to afford OJ Mayo long term. Gay would have a bad ass Blazer jersey
Gay would form a talented young trio along with LaMarcus and Batum, a group that could grow together for years as Olshey has alluded to. We would still have the #6 pick and cap room to find a big man and PG this offseason.
