I understand Fernandez's frustration, but I already considered him trade bait before this. I don't think he can be an effective point guard and he's too small for small forward. He's quite locked in as a shooting guard and there doesn't seem to be any plans to ever shift Roy from shooting guard. Unless Fernandez was willing to embrace a backup position long-term (and not a starter-in-reality role like Ginobili, who has always been the Spurs' best shooting guard and gets the lion's share of the minutes at the position), he wasn't going to fit on Portland long-term.

I'd love it if Fernandez, perhaps in a package with other players like Bayless and/or Outlaw, could net a good, young-ish point guard. Devin Harris would, of course, be the dream but he's probably not available.

Anyway, it should be interesting to see how Pritchard plays this.

While I don't want to trade Rudy, I wouldn't hesitate to do so if it lands us a top flight PG in return in a mega deal. While it may be a pipe dream. New Orleans now has the highest payroll in the league - and the poorest fan base and a cash strapped owner. If there is any chance at all of prying away Chris Paul, I'd give them anyone, and everyone not named Roy, Aldridge or Oden - and I'd take back one, or two of their big, bad contracts in return. We have tons of cheap/underpriced talent, many of them on short contracts, and the cap space to make a lopsided trade. If NO is desparate to dump salary, we are one of their best chances.

Since that's not likely to happen, I think we should keep Rudy and run the triangle offense. We will have the players with the right skills and high basketball IQs to properly run the triangle offense. Phil Jackson, especially during the Lakers' 3-peat, did a good job of running the triangle with two shooting guards (Kobe and Ron Harper) and no real PG. Perhaps, we could do the same. Of course, we'd probably have to play zone on defense most of the time, but why not give it a shot? That way Roy, Hedo and Rudy would all be actively involved in the offense and no one would feel left out. Plus, it would allow us to have our best five players on the court together.

As much as I love his talent and upside, I'd give up Aldridge to land Paul. Paul is one of the several greatest point guard talents ever...Aldridge has to be on the table for a player like that.

Wow Canzano is really taking this Rudy thing and running with it.

Aldridge would be tricky. They wouldn't want to trade for him unless they agreed to an extension number in advance. Execute trade, then Aldridge signs extension with them before season starts.

In order to do that, you have to approach Aldridge early in the process. If trade doesn't happen, Aldridge as the sensitve soul that he is, may not sign the extension with US.

I don't think we can pull that off.

How do we know this isn't just a bunch of made up shit.

But, Aldridge is due for a big contract extension. The only reason NO will EVER trade Chris Paul will be to dump salary. I'm not sure if they will want to take back a guy that will cost them almost as much as Paul to keep.

Of course, if we immediately sign LaMarcus to a big extension, he would be considerably less attractive to NO.

Obviously, with Roy off the table, there is no chance of NO getting back anything close to equal talent. It would be a pure salary dump. They'd get back a bunch of guys with cheap, short term contracts - enough to still have a halfway decent team, and could also unload a 2nd big contract (Chandler or Peja) in the process and be well on their way to rebuilding (and perhaps, even profitability).

Again, it's a pipe dream, but NO is hurting for cash. They tried to give away Chandler last season and that didn't work out - and giving him away would have definitely made them a worse team. So, they are clearly not in a win-at-all-costs mode. They are basically in a dump-salary-or-go-bankrupt-or-sell-the-team mode.

Aldridge has already been contacted by the Blazers about an extension. Reading today's Oregonian, it's obvious he wants to stay here, and it's obvious the Blazers want him here. I post this because I think Chris Paul is a pipe dream at this point. My opinion may change next February depending on what happens in NO next season. Of course, at that point, Roy and LMA will already be locked into an extension, and last I checked, David West plays PF for the Hornets.

People forget about CP3 we are not going to get him. How many times do people bring this up. NO will never trade him they would fold up the team first. Even if they did there are a lot of teams that would give up a lot for CP3. CP3 is staying in NO until the team folds!!!!!!!!

Something to think about: Rudy was one of the few (arguably the best) players on the team to regularly get the ball to Oden in good position.

Rudy was passing from a wing though. In a true point guard position, you don't get down that low for the easy pass to Oden. But I do agree, he did have the best pases to Oden by far this season.

"Every day I think about Mallorca," said Rudy, "I think about Barcelona. But my dream is to play in the NBA. You can see behind you, you can see in front of you. Right now my new goal is to play a lot of years in the NBA. Sure I think of Mallorca, for sure I think about my friends, but right now I focus on my dream, I focus on my work. That's playing basketball."

So did he just change his dream last night?

Not to mention he missed at least 70% of his midrange jumpers.
Perhaps that's also why he took less of them than anyone in the league (other than Kleiza, Battier, Posey and Batum). It's what kept his eFG% high.

Shot Att. eFG% Ast'd Blk'd Pts
Jump 84% .520 80% 1% 7.1
Close 11% .643 58% 6% 1.2
Dunk 4% .963 85% 4% 0.7
Tips 0% .333 0% 0% 0.0
Inside16% .720 67% 5% 1.8

Canzano is in favor of getting Hedo, and is telling Rudy to chill out.

Canzano is telling Rudy to wait and see the big picture and direction of the team before getting upset, while Canzano doesn't even wait to even see if this report is exaggerated or bogus. Hypocritical.

This can get worked out. I also don't think he's as "furious" as the source leads us to believe. I'm sure Rudy is insecure about what this signing would do to his role. That's completely understandable. And just like in any relationship, personal or professional, there are going to be times when people don't see eye to eye. The mistake is giving up or making rash decisions.

Management, the coaching staff, and Rudy need to come together and iron this out. It'll all be good.

I'll get off my soap box now.

Anything to confirm it?

True, but I think it is easier for him to come out and say "No this is not true" than to come out and say "Yes i'm a whiney baby"

It's most likely he isn't aware of the frenzy on Portland message boards. I'm sure Casey will address this in the next 48 hours.

Re: Rudy Upset About Hedo?

Fuck him. It's not like he would have ever stayed here anyway. He does not want to be a back up, and unless he is our PG of the future he is always going to be a back up.

Let me start the madness.

Rudy, Travis, Blake and Webster for Paul. Get it done KP. In reality, Rudy could probably get you a decent PG via trade.

I disagree (so what's new?)

Rudy has much better skills than Turkeyglue. Rudy is up & coming. Turkeyglue is on the downhill side.

This will go down as a KP screw up.

I think it will go down as a screw up when we get nothing in free agency.

I like Rudy the player. He just happens to play the same possition as our best player. Hedo helps our team more than Rudy because he is better than what we have at his possition.
