I couldn't disagree more. He was impressive there at the end of the 1st quarter last night. The way he was running the break, finding the open men. He was beautiful to watch. I agree. He was just about everywhere at the end of that quarter. Steals, passes, finishing the break. If Blake could aim a little lower... Blake actually sends nice alley-oop passes - but it is usually to LMA. I think he forgot that Rudy is not that tall with that pass...

Like I said, Rudy's the next Drazen Petrovic. We'll trade him to a shitty team for some vet and he'll turn into an allstar because he'll have the green light. He'll look amazing in an open offense. At LEAST 20ppg.

I never saw Drazen Petrovic play, but this is ridiculous. Rudy will never be an all-star and he will never average 20 PPG.

Petrovic was nothing fancy, just a good shooter who could drive, too. The only reason he did well after he left the Blazers was Bill Fitch, who in my opinion is the 4th best NBA coach of all time.

Petro went to a bad team, the Nets, and was driven to play his hardest by hard guy Fitch. Players never especially liked Fitch (Ralph Sampson hated him when he coached the Rockets) but he made them lose their bad habits. He made good players out of bad ones. The first one I remember like that was Jim Chones, who was the 2nd best college center after Walton till he jumped ship to the ABA and deserted his college team in midseason. Anyway, Fitch got him a couple of years later in Cleveland.

Okay, to skip a lot of memories, because no one except me cares about history, Fitch just made Petro put his nose to the grindstone. Petro told a reporter in Europe that when he got 20 in an NBA game, he worked as hard as he would in Europe to get 50. The NBA was that much harder. He was only with the Nets 2 years, averaging 20 ppg on a mediocre team, before he mysteriously died while his country was in conflict. Seems to happen to any potential leader who is a unifying force in a polarized nation at war.

Another story I remember was the first month Petro was a rookie with the Blazers. He said that when he went for the basket in preseason practice, someone jumped in front of him and stopped him. This happened a few times. He thought, "I am out of shape or something. I must try harder." He kept blaming himself for a couple of weeks until he realized that it wasn't him. It was the quality of the NBA.

Anyway, to tie it back to what you said, Rudy might average 20 under Fitch, but he'd have to really sweat for it.

Petro was maybe the slowest 2 guard I've ever seen... feet stuck in the mud slow. Dude couldn't guard anyone at all but he could shoot coming off a pick. I once watched him working out shooting deep 3s with a ball boy for about 45 minutes where he had many stretches making 50+ shots in a row. Dude could shoot with anyone.

I don't see it as that big of stretch of the imagination to say that if in the right situation Rudy could average 20 points a game... if you project his rookie numbers out to Roy type minutes he wasn't that far off (per 36 he's at 14.7).

Rudy needs to be run off of screens to be most effective, he has struggled when trying to go 1v1...Need to gte him moving for him to be most effective, he is very good at creating for others, can hit the 3, but you waste him just sitting him out there 80% of the time...

I think he is the best player out of him, Batum and Bayless...

Agreed a Million %. I am far from the Coach Bashing type in here... but Rudy has been fumbled around big time here, with how he has been used. There is NO reason why Rudy should not be used like Rip Hamilton or Reggie Miller was, running everywhere off screens. I understand why they have him on the corner to keep his man from doubling LMA... but maybe we shouldnt be force feeding LMA the ball 18 feet from the hoop then. Rudy has been used nowhere NEAR what his strengths are since he has been here. I hope we start using him right because the dude is a BIG GAME player.. and brings a lot to this team.

I'm not looking for Rudy to get plays called for him where he is meant to break people down and go to the rim.. hence why I brought up the examples of Rip and Reggie Miller. I dont want Rudy finishing at the Basket because of his scrawny frame.

If he was being used correctly.. I feel many in here would have a much higher opinion of him.

And also the point still stands.. 4th or 5th option or not... You utilize your players to their strength.. make the other team react to you attacking.. not just giving someone a breather on defense.

And Bayless has proved what exactly? His last few games were pathetic....Not to mention starting a 6'2 & 6'2 backcourt is not very beneficial to POR...I see no indication that Bayless should be a scoring option above Fernandez...NONE at all....

Just shows how idiotic Nate is, even with Roy injured he won't start Rudy....

Maybe Miller when he is in scoring mode, but Miller is most effective when he is setting up for others...like Rudy for example....

Bayless isn't as streaky as Rudy, it really is the truth. Bayless has consistently gotten double digit points in his last like 11 out of 12 games or something like that (with the one game being where he only got 11 minutes against the Spurs because of injury). Rudy is nothing but a streaky shooter, which we have enough of those already, at least Bayless can attack the rim and get free throws. One may not be better than the other right now, but over time, if both were to start on different teams, my money is on Bayless being the better player.

Rudy's basketball IQ is much higher than Bayless', but JB's ability to get the the rim-almost at will-and collapse a defense make him a more effective playmaker than Rudy. Rudy is much better at running the break though.

I know not all of this is directed at me.. but I'm not comparing the players. I'm just pointing out that Rudy is worth a lot more than just sitting out their hovering like maybe a Martell would and should. Rudy brings a lot more than that.

Sort of. A 2 on 2 fast break where there's a center back defending? I'd definitely take Rudy as one of those 2 guys over Bayless.

Bayless, however, creates 1 on 2 fast breaks all on his own surprisingly often and actually scores on them.

Basically, if it's one guy creating on his own, I'd rather that guy be Bayless. If it's a couple of guys working in tandem, I'd rather have Rudy.

Me too! Rudy is the better passer and decision maker for sure.

I think Rudy's role has expanded quite a bit this year.
