Real Madrid just Lost to Maccabi Tel Aviv, people are very happy in Israel.
Rudy was Rudy, Sergio was the best player for Madrid.

I would totally be down with bringing back Sergio, but would he want to come here again? I would take Rudy too, but from what I understand he didn't really like Portland, and I don't think we'd be getting Rudy pre-Ariza.

If one returns to relive his happy NBA memories, then out of 30 teams, Portland's random chance is 1 out of 30.

Edit: Oops, I left out 6 zeroes.

Rudy wasn't bad BTW, he was just about the same player he was when he left. Sergio grew a beard, a 3 point shot and balls, still lost the game, him and Rudy were probably best players for Real, Rudy disappeared in the 4th quarter and overtime while Sergio tried to lead them to victory but failed.

Both were good sneaky shooters here. But McMillan wanted macho, punchy shooting. He wanted specialists who stood around doing nothing else.

They wanted to shoot in the flow, to take what the defense gave them, and otherwise to pass. McMillan wanted them to face down the defender standing 3 inches away, overpower him while shooting, and leave hairy-chest scrape marks on his face.

LOL

Neither were good fits with McMillan.

Both would be good fits with Stotts.

I think Rudy and Sergio would have a field day with Stotts.

I'm sure Claver has a lot of nice things to say about the Blazers.

Sergio actually got worse when he went from Sarge to D'Antoni. Rudy had a very effective rookie season.

Neither can play a lick of defense, so if the Blazers were to bring them back, I guess I won't see any criticism of the defense next year.

Sergio has improved defensively. Rudy not so much.

Real Madrid plays a zone defense much of the time, as does the Spanish national team. Unless you are saying that the Blazers need a back-up PG who plays in a zone...

As for Sergio's distance shooting, FIBA's three point line is 22'1", compared to the 23'9" in the NBA.

Sergio runs the offense so well. He has a 3 point shot and improved ability to attack the basket (got blocked on a key play, though) which gives him more freedom to do what he does best: run the offense, make good decisions, the right pass - things he was good at with the Blazers as well.

I think he's a better defender than Rudy. You're right that it's not a strength for neither of them.

He's playing against journeymen pros most of the time in Europe. Take a look at Maccabi Tel Aviv's roster, and let me know who are the elite defenders on that team.

Which should pretty much end any and all talk about Sergio. The same posters whining about perimeter defense think that Sergio is a huge defensive upgrade over Mo. Both are bad defenders, and Sergio already flamed out in the NBA once. If D'Antoni couldn't make him even an average NBA PG, why do people think he's suddenly going to blossom under Stotts?

I pull for Sergio, because under McMillan he was at least a passable NBA back-up, but no thanks.

Maccabi played Very good defense. Their coach is maybe the best in Europe and they have 2-3 players worth an NBA contract.

2-3 players worth an NBA contract, and Maccabi Tel Aviv plays zone almost exclusively.

Sergio>Mo
Rudy>remind me who our backup SF is? :dunno:

Had they been on our team this season we'd still be in the playoffs.

Bottom line, I'd welcome Sergio back with open arms.

Rudy? Probably not. Too many burned bridges.

Agreed. I'd love to have Serg back.

There has been many players pass through Portland that were not a good fit with McMillan.
But I am not sure that is the best way to say it, damn few player played winning ball with McMillan.
