Rudy, Sergio, lose in Euroleague final

Sergio actually got worse when he went from Sarge to D'Antoni.

If D'Antoni couldn't make him even an average NBA PG, why do people think he's suddenly going to blossom under Stotts?

You like to repeat yourself in each thread, to give the illusion that you represent the crowd. Sergio arrived in the last third of the season to a .354 team with a set roster. D'Antoni tried him in limited minutes but didn't care. The season was over.

Among all-time NBA rookies:

Sergio #4 in assist %

Sergio #10 in assists per minute

Sergio #24 among Blazers in PER

Rudy #2 in 3 pointers made per minute
(#1 if minimum minutes are 900, but I wanted to show that Korver’s his only competition)

Rudy was all-time #1 in 3 pointers made, till the record was broken a year later (but not broken per minute)

Rudy #13 in true shooting %

Rudy #6 in effective FG%

Rudy #7 among Blazers in PER

I could go on and on…the NBA made them get worse every year.

He talked shit about the city and was actually boo'd by the crowd next game if I remember right. Patty actually turned him back into a decent person but he had already pissed off the staff.

Since no one else remembers this, can you find a link? He just said that he wanted to return to Europe. It was obvious to him and everyone that he was sinking to the bottom of McMillan's rotation. No one could understand why the team wasn't trading him in the summer after his 2nd year when he still had value.

Rudy has one major hole in his game, though: he can't make a 2-point shot.
His only points in the game that weren't 3s or FTs came on a put-back dunk.

Good to see Baby Shaq win a title. Who's Tyrese Rice?

This was good for: David Blatt, who should finally get serious consideration for an NBA coaching job
Bad for: the Bulls. Their guy Mirotic (who still should've been drafted over Nolan) was pretty quiet in the biggest game of the year.

Boxscore

I can't imagine that Sergio or Rudy would ever consider coming back here even if they were asked, so let's just think of them as ex-Blazers who gave us some nice moments, shall we? Soon to be joined by Claver, only minus the moments.

You mean, like Arvydas Sabonis (Real Madrid, 1992-95)?

Sabonis was good before he went to Spain, made his name before he played in Spain, and wasn't known because he went to Spain.

Rice is very much like Ty Lawson. Alex Tyus is also a very nice player, a very mobile, athletic big.

Blatt is reportedly considering an offer from CSKA. He's a very good coach, one of the best in Europe and he's from the US but I'm not sure if an NBA team would be a good place for him. He likes to build a team every year, always gets criticized for having a weak roster, etc, than have them come together at the right time and surprise everyone.

Sergio has expressed interest if the situation is right.

The Blazers are close to being contenders and he'd get plenty of minutes, with Dame getting some run off the ball as well.

The real problem is money, will the full MLE be enough?

Like I said, the chance of him returning to the Blazers is 1 in 30...million.

Four people will be really happy if we get Sergio back. And i mean really happy

1. Me
2. Maris
3. Marazul
4. Lamarcus

And #4 is the only one that matters. I remember he and Serg tweeting back and forth a bit back-- if El Chacho is truly interested in a return to the NBA, I'm sure LA can make some phone calls.

I might be able to but throwing out baseless accusations is more my style. I remember reading some story where he was pouting at a charity event and didnt want to give money or pay for his meal or something. I remember lol'ing.

Is EVERYbody in the mood for a vision from HELL? LET'S get STARTED.

Fuck Rudy Fernandez. One of my least favorite Blazers players ever.

Sergio is cool with me though.

If Sergio has indeed developed an outside shot, or even just the ability to make a layup, something he wasn't able to do in 4 seasons in the NBA, he may actually have a role in the league. While he was in the NBA, he was a poor man's version of Bricky Rubio, a flashy passer who turns the ball over way too much and can't score to save his life. At least with Rubio you get his high risk/high reward gambling defense. With Sergio, you get no defense at all.

I do like the beard though. He has kind of a euro-Harden thing going on there. One would also hope with another 4 years playing in Europe he would have vastly improved his flopping skills. Better flopping, combined with an outside shot, may actually earn Sergio a role as a decent back-up PG in today's NBA - something he failed at miserably his first time around. But, I doubt he'll come back. He's finally a star somewhere. I assume he makes good money and has a shorter, less grueling season. Plus, given that so many Spanish players have scruffy neck beards, I'm guessing that's a real pantie pealer with the groupies over there. Why would he ever leave?

As Sergio's biggest enemy in the world, I expected you to crawl out of the woodwork much, much earlier in the thread. You been hibernating under a warm rock? It's May, come on out and feast, the worms are crawling.

Real Madrid is playing some team named Lagun Aro. 1st quarter just ended. I see it on one of those free internet connections, but I don't see Rudy or Sergio. Maybe this is the game for 3rd place or something and the stars aren't playing. Just my luck.

Sergio's in! Lagun Aro is the product ad on the jerseys. The team is named Gipuzkoa. Well, everyone's heard of Gipuzkoa.

Still no Rudy. Sergio Llull is opposing Sergio. Weren't they teammates a year or two ago? The small crowd never stops singing their chant. Sergio isn't attempting the flashy passes which made us fall in love with him as rookie here. He had lost that here by his 3rd and last year, but I thought maybe he'd return to form in Europe.

This is faster basketball than the NBA, which is stop-and-go. Sergio excels at this nonstop pace.

The way the pace is maintained is that 1) refs call defense and steal attempts more closely. (So Sergio doesn't get turnovers, as he did here. One guy tried to steal from him and got called.) And 2) there are no TV timeouts, at least in this unimportant game.

The game just ended. Real Madrid led by 8 or 10 the whole game.

I noticed a front-row woman fan watching a player walk by. So I looked up...Rudy's there, but not in uniform, nursing a splint on a right hand finger.

That's my Rudy! He probably still posts at Thanksgiving how lonely he is. Dude, open your eyes to the girls checking you out. After he tweeted that, I posted that we'd lose him unless Pritchard introduced him to some social events. By the end of his 2nd year, they had Roy stop excluding him in the locker room, but it was too late. He had been miserable too long and wanted out.

You know, I thought I could get into Euro League basketball. You figure that with all the good foreign players over here, there must be some real talent. But it really isn't like that. It is filled with not-quite NBA players, journeymen internationals, and various young developing talents. Every once in a while you see some good fundamental play, but then a old fat American will dunk it and that's the end of that.
