At least in one guy's opinion......

From: Chicago Now

...........Rudy wants to start, doesn't like the slowed down half court McMillan system, and misses his friends/family as reasons he won't be back with the Blazers.

Rudy hasn't played well this season, but he's a very good player. He's on an ultra cheap deal for two more seasons, and he'd be a steal if he could be acquired cheaply from Portland. Now Portland doesn't want to trade anyone cheaply.

I think Kevin Pritchard fancies himself the next Jerry krause needing to annihilate every team on every deal. Will Rudy really be available for anything reasonable? Don't know, but the Bulls should throw out James Johnson or their draft pick in this year's draft as an offer for the guard.

Fernandez is not without risk. The fear that he may leave the NBA for Europe after two seasons is legitimate. If he doesn't do so, he'll likely require quite a large deal [full MLE+] to keep him here. However, acquiring Fernandez could be a huge benefit. Despite his poor shooting this year, I'd expect him to shoot over 40% from the three point line the next two seasons.

The Bulls desperately need shooting and won't be able to find a cheaper option who can deliver that type of shot making. He's also a solid ball handler and play maker, not enough to be a pure PG, but enough to allow Rose to work off the ball occasionally if the Bulls desire.

Make no mistake, Rudy's a talent. A talent greater than this year's stats make him appear. If the Blazers are looking to get out while they can then the Bulls should see if they can get something done.

This can't be true because I read on here that he's an all-star talent being held back. Surely other GM's would put out a solid offer to steal such a talent before another team gets him.

I'd be content to move Rudy for a rookie the way he's been playing

I wasn't focusing on James Johnson as much as the first round draft pick (unprotected :D ) and the hope that there is a feeling of a Rudy sweepstakes out there among teams. I would like to see jsut how high the bidding gets.

I should note that what I really wish is that Rudy would just accept his role here and try to develop into that assassin off the bench . . . but I don't think Rudy is happy in Ptd.

I'd look strictly at a PG prospect for Rudy.

Jeff Teague
Jrue Holiday <--this kid is going to be good down the road
etc.

I agree ... his numbers in the last half of the season seem to suggest that "down the road" might be more like "up the street" That kid is going to be one helluva defender

Nate's system totally killed his game. I really want to see Rudy in a system that fits him and starting. He's a ruined talent in our system.

Yes I would like to see him start as well. With any of our main competitors. I am sure Roy would like to see that too. But I am also sure he can excell with team like Golden State. Lottery teams that will not "ruin his talent".

but I don't think Rudy is happy in Ptd.

this is what it boils down to. I think he wants to have different weather/culture. The problem with the guys who only stay in oregon during the NBA season is that they never get a chance to see the summer here. He probably wants to live the fast-pace Pau Gasol life.:devilwink:

Whatever. Rudy is ours for two more years. To me, that means Nate has that much time to get solid minutes for him. I can envision him playing about 14 mpg at SG and another 16 at PG as a back-up. If he can average 30 mpg, I think he'll be happy enough with a winning team.

If that either doesn't work out or if it's too much of a stretch with him being a back-up PG, then one way or another he's gone.

In theory that's correct ... in practice, if things don't change considerably in his role or the team's style (ie. Nate being here or not) then there's no way he'll be content to let it ride for that long. My money is on him bolting this summer in some kind of trade that he forces.

Just like he killed Sergio's game. I remember the posts about if only Sergio played in D'Antoni's he would thrive, but Nate was holding him back.

Under Nate, Rudy set the all-time rookie record for three in a season, so he obviously hasn't been totally miss used. Unless, people think Rudy is an unbelievable shooter who can run a team and defend night in and night out in the NBA over an 82 game schedule.

Rudy is only a starter on a team like the Warriors/Kings/Wizards/Wolves/etc. Teams that suck basically. On teams contending his best role is easily coming off the bench, and even then he's just a player with limited abilities. He's not fast/quick, not strong, not great at handling the ball, has shown no ability to put the ball on the floor and create plays consistently/finish at the rim, it goes on. And yeah, he's almost a 0 on defense.

In his time here he's really never shown he's worth more playing time, especially this year. He's certainly better than he's playing this year, but overall his ceiling seems to lean toward being just a nice role player off the bench. If he wants to be more, he needs to start showing improvement.

It really comes down to 2 things: how bad is his back, and how bad does he want out of Portland. Either of those issues could be good reason to move him this summer, before his value drops any further.

The sad thing is, he could be a productive player on a contender - but only if he is willing to accept a realistic role.

The great talent evaluator Pritchard praised Rudy to the high heavens during the year he stayed in Europe, so we all got high expectations. If Pritchard had kept his mouth shut to the media, we wouldn't be disappointed now. For a late 1st, he's what you expect--barely adequate at a couple of things, lousy at everything else, potentially improvable at everything. But he's not improving, probably because McMillan won't mold his system around his players except Roy.

He's not exactly helping his stock right now. Nate rarely runs him off screens anymore. Has anyone else noticed this?

Anybody think a Rudy Fernandez for Ramon Sessions swap would work? Both guy's stock is down, both have their warts but it might be something that helps the Wolves coax Rubio out of Spain and it would give the Blazers a fairly productive pass first point guard who does much better in a pick and roll system instead of that bastardized version of the triangle Rambis is trying to install.

Part of the problem for Rudy this year, is that he needs a good passing PG to get him the ball. I'm afraid that, at least for some years, Bayless won't fit that description.

I also think that Rudy is playing below his abilities for some reason. He is a better player than we have seen in the last 3 weeks. He should be worth more though, than a mid level first round pick. It will probably need to be in a package with someone else, such as Joel or possibly Martell. This summer might be interesting.

Just like it killed Sergio's game...
I agree that Rudy's skills don't fit best into our system, however he's just not playing well for whatever reason. It's not all the system.

Rudy is following the same career path as Sergio. His first year he played like he had in Spain. Then McMillan filled him full of inhibitions and "don'ts" and he went downhill. He can't unlearn them now.

Let's face it...Rudy's a prima donna bitch. He came here with all this hype, hundred people met him at the fuckin airport, pdx has been suckin the guy off for 3 years. He's not that good. I, for one, was super stoked for him to come over, especially after the china olympics. Ya I know he has flashes where I don't wanna trade him at all, but for fucks sake those are becoming rare. Whatever the reason, he sucks now. And if the reason is him wanting out, then he's even more of a lil bitch. Lets just hope he plays well in the Finals so we can trade him while his value is high.

Naah, too early, I say we wait till we win the Finals. Make him earn his keep.

Give me Jeff Teague for Rudy any day of the week. But, I think Atlanta's thinking the same thing, I think this is the last year as a starter for the seriously washed up Mike Bibby. I also think the 76ers are looking to go forward with Jrue Holiday as well.

If only we could've given Utah a 2nd round pick for Maynor:sigh:
