Rumor: Blazers Make Offer to the Wiz

That's $10.24M in salary. I would imagine it's for either Caron Butler (highly doubt they'd accept that) or a contract and the #5.

That would be enough in salary also to get Jamison and the #5. I highly doubt we'd keep Jamison though. He would be sent packing somewhere else.

Do you want to discuss what "could" be happening or do you want to harp on me for being excited that something realistic has surfaced and didn't put "could" in my thread title?

It does read "or" Jerryd Bayless and not "and" Jerryd Bayless. Not a combo offer.

I just realized the blurb says Blake, Bayless, or Outlaw. Guess I missed out on a few key words in that sentence.

Well now that we have had our grammar lesson for the day .... thanks for the info Crimson. I will take whatever I can get. Much appreciated.

I don't think the "or" is significant (an exclusive or). I think the blurb is saying Portland could part with any of them, not that it must be only one. All of them could be parted with, which doesn't tell us if it would be a combination or a single player.

I'm sure that the #5 is at the heart of the deal, at least from the Blazer's perspective. Bayless for #5 isn't enough.

Blake & Bayless for #5 and either Thomas, James, or Haywood.

Outlaw & Bayless for #5 and either Thomas, James, or Haywood.

If Minnesota offers them Mike Miller for #5 and a bad contract, they should take that. They'd be paying luxury tax though, and a lot of it.

If they're wanting to shed money, Portland can help them do that.

It's deffinately exciting, but "could" is a major part of that article.

Blazers trade for Chris Paul. Now that's exciting.

Blazers talk trade for Chirs Paul. Only one word, but kinda important.

Portland is probably their best option to trade with for shedding money.

Do you think that purely because of salary? Because I would remind you the Blazers are going to be hitting the stage where players hungry for a ring at the end of their career will come spend a year or two here just pursuing that. Jamison is prime for that, and he would be a guy who could play SF or PF. I can guarantee he is a better SF than anybody we have on the team now, by far. He would be a major upgrade in my book.

Portland and Washington

Portland and Phoenix

Phoenix and Washington

That's an interesting circle

Hmm. No, the salary didn't really enter the equation for me. I've always found him too slow at the 3. At least that's my impression. I went and checked and although the majority of his minutes are at the 4 for Washington, he produced very well at the 3 too. He's a fantastic rebounder. He's got a nose for that.

I see what you're saying though. Subtract Outlaw and give Jamison that same role, assuming he'll accept it, and we'd be far better off.

You might have something there.

Plus we go from having a player with almost no basketball IQ to a player with a very high basketball IQ. I also thought Jamison put in a very good effort on a very bad team last year. Him and Butler tried to keep that team afloat but it was just too much of a load with all the injuries they have had.

Sorry, I didn't mean for you to take it personal.

When I read the title, it made me believe that we made an offer, when it fact, it appears that someone at ESPN is just speculating on who we could offer. One gets me real excited, the other not so much.

Thomas and the #5 for Blake and Outlaw?

Blake and Outlaw represent $8.3 mil in waivable money before July 1
Thomas makes $6.9 mil now

Washington sheds money fast if they want too.

We are nto moving both our experienced PG's and leave us with none. We keep JB at least
Blake played for them in the past remember

If they moved Jamison and the #5 for Blake, Outlaw, and Bayless, they'd be down to $66M in salary if they cut Blake and Outlaw.

No luxury tax for them. They'd save as much as $26M dollars in tax and salary (depending on the luxury tax line). That's huge. It's a tough sell to your fan base though. I'd say they'd keep Outlaw and only cut Blake in that scenario. That would put them at $70M. Maximum amount in lux. tax is about $5M then.

Why not start Jamison instead of having him come off the bench? Jamison is a far better then Outlaw and really should be used differently.

Heck, Portland wanted to use Outlaw differently last year, but couldn't because Travis is too limited.

I don't think starting Jamison at SF for us next year would be a good recipe to success.

No biggee. I'm a little amped today. I don't read the blurb the same way as you though. I do see it as Ford has some inside info that we have indeed offered a combo of those players for the combo of the #5 and another player.

I agree with you overall, but I could see how Jamison would fit well in Portland. He adds to our rebounding advantage, can space the floor as well as Batum, and since we don't really run, his lack of court speed doesn't hurt us too much.

Well I hope you're right. I would LOVE to get Butler as much as you would!
