Generally this has been true in the past, however I think this will be less and less the case in today's news being up-to-date in real-time thanks to twitter, texting, etc.

The "insider" reporting in the NBA is the least reliable of all the sports. Wojnarowski is pretty much the only guy with any kind of inside info. ESPN guys are either completely and utterly full of shit and enjoy lying to our faces or 100% used by NBA teams to have media influence over fans or gain leverage.

Jamal Crawford

Crawford isn't a full-time point guard but has had to play there more often than envisioned for the Portland Trail Blazers because of the struggles of Raymond Felton. Nonetheless, he's having a better season than people realize, posting the second-best PER of his career; he's just having to create a huge number of shots because nobody else in the backcourt can get anything done, and it's dragging down his percentages.

Crawford is likely to opt out after the season, making him a tricky player to put in a deal unless it's a salary dump, and he's too good to be involved in a salary dump. (The same, incidentally, applies to fellow Blazers trade target Gerald Wallace). He doesn't give you much defensively, but he made his living with the Atlanta Hawks as a go-to guy for the second unit who can spot 10 minutes as the backup point guard. That's the ideal role for him; unfortunately, Felton's situation has pushed him into more of a primary ballhandling role.

Actually, the best-case scenario might be for Portland to trade from its glut of wing players for another point guard and clear room for Crawford to play more regularly at the 2. All options certainly are on the table for the Blazers, but Crawford remains their most portable asset.

None of the deals impress me for Crawford, the only thing I like about moving him would be to open up more time for Ewill. Now that he is injured and we don't know what will happen i'm fine with keeping Crawford and letting him opt out at the end of the season. If he isn't moved in a big trade I think we should show him a little loyalty seeing as he chose to play for us this season.
The one thing I don't want to see is him at PG again. If Felton isn't getting it done run Smith at the point, he has to learn it sometime.

A bit of a clarification on the intentions of the Portland Trail Blazers:

It’s been reported in various places that the reason the Blazers want to trade Crawford is because of the fear he could decline his $5.2 million Player Option this June and then leave for nothing.

Actually, the opposite is true.

Crawford may/will be moved specifically because of the fear he could INVOKE the option and Portland would lose that $5.2 million in cap space to spend this summer. They want to trade him to make sure whether he does or does not invoke the option doesn’t matter to them because he in no way, shape or form is part of whatever the team ends up being in 2012-13.

If they move Gerald Wallace, it’s because of the same reason.

The Blazers are looking for additional cap space this summer so they rebuild around Aldridge and Batum – they don’t want this worry about will or will not Wallace and Crawford invoke their Player Options so they can begin their planning as soon as possible.

Don’t give much credence to any Blazers rumor that has them taking on more money than they are sending out unless it brings them back an All-Star. And since nothing they are offering will return an All-Star…look for it to be ending contracts. If it’s a rookie scale deal, that’s a little different.

Yeah keep crawford and deal Felton to Lakers for their TPE and draft pick. Sign Mills and use Wallace to get a PG. Doesn't have to be a knock out PG, but it could be a possibility.

I imagine that it could be possible that Milwakuee trades Jennings if we take back Bogut.

Probably not.

On a side note, I'm surprised Jennings only averages 2.2 TOs per game. His 10% TO% is surprisingly low for a ball dominant guard and extremely good for a point guard.

Although with the way he shoots you might as well chalk up some of his misses as turnovers.

I remembered that year. I was pissed! We needed a deal badly and got Jones instead. But, remember we had Patterson and Nash. Not a very "proactive" management.
 
So ... anybody wanna give an over/under on the number of Blazers moved at the deadline?



I'll say zero and take the under.
 
Chad and Larry don't know what they're doing.

I wouldn't be surprised if there are no moves.

No moves is not a bad thing. I like that we're hesitant about taking back even miniscule contracts because we don't want to hurt our capspace.
 
It looks like we won't be making any moves. I can accept it. Maybe they want to have the best flexibility during the summer for the new GM?
 
I thought a Crawford/Augustin would have been a good move -- both are expiring (opt out for Jamal) and we get to test drive a young PG.

Crawford is 32 and will opt out this summer; to ask for a first round pick for a rental is pure amateur hour and insulting.

Maybe Cho knew better and laughed at Larry/Bert/Chad when he picked up the phone to listen to the Blazers' proposal?
 
Our incredible cap space this summer is going to be bigger than the RLEC fiesta! I am so excited!
 
To do that they'd have to have a plan in place first.

I fully expect us to draft another tweener this summer.
 
I'm expecting no moves. Blazers want draft picks. Everyone values their draft picks this year. As they should.

I'd like to see Felton, Crawford, Wallace and Camby traded for young prospects and future assets (picks, trade exceptions). But since I never get what I want....
