Rupert needs to be starting and playing 30 mpg

I have no problem if Rupert plays 0 minutes or 48 minutes. I think in the grand scheme of things, I'm guessing it won't make a bit of difference.
I think him getting a feel for the NBA game and getting a good idea of what he needs to work on this off-season as well as how he needs to improve in terms of thinking the game will matter a lot for Rupert.

The amount of Jake Whatevers this place has belabored over is crazy high. The large majority never pan out and I'm not sure any have gone elsewhere and had a ton of success.
Jake “the snake” Layman is now playing for a Japanese pro team after his years in Minnie

Yeah, I'm not against the idea at all. In the grand scheme of things, I don't think the odds of Rupert, Murray, Baton, etc. being difference makers is very high. Like I've previously said, if he played all 48 minutes, that's fine. On the flip side, if he didn't play the rest of the season, I wouldn't lose any sleep over it either.

Most definitely. Wemby is averaging 28.8 minutes a game. Rupert should by all means be playing more!

I am not sure why we pay millions to our coaching staff when the team should just go to the message boards.
I’ve shared posts with coaches from this nuthouse over the years…..won’t tell you their replies to some of them. Absolutely hilarious.

Wemby? The minutes-and-back-to-back-restricted Wemby playing for Minutes-Restrictions-R-US San Antonio?

Could you find a worse comparison? I think not.

How about Brandon Miller? 32 minutes per game.

So a player shooting 38% from the field and looked okay in the G League is a good comparison to a player 2 and a half years older that was drafted #2 overall?

When you play more minutes, you play better competition. Rupert is not ready for that.

When you've had the kind of career coaching success that Billups has, it's definitely fair to say that he can't possibly be wrong when people (on the internet or elsewhere) disagree with him.

Talk about a bad take. Haha.

Riiiight. People on a message board are going to know more than Billups because we have a roster designed to tank. Not only does Billups have a far superior basketball resume over anyone posting, he is going to have the entire team's development in mind when making decisions. He is also going to have a better idea of what a player can and cannot do plus his mental makeup.

Are you one of those people that know more than scientists after doing a few Google searches?

the Blazers were +12 with Rayan on the court against the loaded Clippers team. It's time to save Anfernee until next season and start Rupert.

Scoot
Rupert
Toumani
Murray
Reath
----
Banton
Walker
Minaya
Moses

wait until this all rookie starting lineup wins a game or 2, Billups will be heralded as the greatest tactician to ever coach an NBA game.

Rayan Rupert back on top of 3-point shooting for the team after his 3-4 on threes last night.

The Blazers desperately needed someone to hit 3-pointers against Houston and Billups instead went with now-26.5%-3-point-shooter, Kris Murray, who was 0-6, and Delano Banton who was 2-9.

So why did Rupert 0nly play 23 minutes? Rupert was the only Blazer with a Positive +/- at +7. Next closest was Minaya at -2.

Ceiling: Tayshaun Prince

His reach is otherworldly for a 6’7” wing

Rupert is another good example of why one should not discount a young player based on his 3-point stats.
Last year he shot 25% in the NBL. He really has improved his stroke since joining the Blazers.

I do wonder what his best position will end up being. His profile from that team shows he was 205. The Blazers list him at 185. If he can get to 205, I think he would be better as a 3 and D-type wing.

All part of the ta...I mean plan.

It doesn't matter who is currently shooting better. The entire rest of this season should be devoted to one thing and one thing only: player development and evaluation. Okay, that's two things. The entire rest of this season should be devoted to two things and two things only: player development and evaluation and avoiding injuries to key players. Okay, that's three things: The entire rest of this season should be devoted to three things and three things only: Player development and evaluation and avoiding injuries to key players. None of those things are related to current performance.

But I really want to see Sharpe play with Scoot.......and he is a key player.

i went back to see why Rupert got benched in 2nd half last night. He was being a pest defensively, and Scoot found him on drive & kicks 3 times. Rayan hit 2 in a row, Scoot nailed a bucket and triple, the Blazers lead swelled to 9.

Rockets got a couple baskets, Rayan missed his 3rd stab at a three, then immediately got subbed out for Jabari Walker. The Rockets took full advantage of the slow footed Reath/Walker frontcourt, and pummeled the Blazers with high speed offense. Duop got a breather from Moses Brown near end of 3rd, which made Portland even slower. Rockets +20 after Rupert got benched.

OK, no biggy, get Rupert back in, and maybe he can disrupt defensively and stick a couple more 3's. NOPE ... Coach Billups randomly gives *cold off the bench* Justin Minaya the SF slot to begin the 4th.

it's that time of year for accidental bad coaching. It's best to watch the Blazers without really knowing who exacty is on the court. Slappy scrappy defense, and maybe some shots will drop.

This season, Rupert needs to be starting and playing 35 minutes per game.

The Blazers need a Star, or at least an elite 3-and-D guard/forward.

Billups should not be dicking around with this. It's a 2-4 team.

My dream backcourt would be Rupert and Sharpe. Every position in the NBA is 3-and-D. At least for a successful team.

Probably not in 6'3" PG Billups imagination.

Scoot shooting .286 and turnstile Simons are not the answer.
