Ryan Callahan wants NORTH of $6.5 million/close to $7 million

Totally agree. If it were any one of us or one of our children, we'd do exactly the same. Get all you can. I agree this would be a bad deal for the Rangers and wouldn't go much higher than what they've offered. I could also see it being worth it to Buffalo to come close to what he wants. They are in a different situation.

I complete agree with Al. Holy crap! :)

When you look at other players with similar ages who have similar contracts to what Cally is asking for the closest comparison is probably Patrice Bergeron.

But even Bergeron is better defensively (widely considered the best defensive fwd in the game) and at least Bergeron has 2 70+ point seasons.

Cally's contract demands are silly.

What people in support of Cally will say is Sather is going to spend $7m a year on somebody so it might as well be Cally but that logic is stupid.

If cally gets that contract 7 yrs 6.8 does he become the highest paid 3rd line player never to score 30 goals in hockey history?

Like I said, to me it is all relative. If even one team would give Cally this huge deal you can say he is "worth that much", it only takes one. So from that POV I agree.

Where I get on Cally though is just be fair. He is NOT that type of player. Not a 6.5 to 7 mill per cap hit player. He is not even a 6 mill per player. If the Rangers offered that much he should have jumped and this discussion shouldn't even be happening.

I do not begrudge Cally if he is about the money and wants the most he can get no matter which team it is from, good for him and fully his right. But don't on the flip side say all I want to do is win and be a New York Ranger, because that is not true if he goes for this huge mega deal we will not match. Just say it is/was about the money and we move on.

Like I said, I do think this gets done still, but we pay more than we wanted to. Most likely close to 6 mill per season cap hit wise, and that is too much, but so be it I guess. Wish he could have taken 5.5 or so and been happy to make a ton of money and be a Ranger rather than needing to break the bank.

Oh well...

give it to him on 1 condition, that he has to score 2 goals a game, if he doesn't, contract canceled!

No progress has been made over the past two days towards finding a match between the Rangers and Ryan Callahan on a contract extension. (NY Post)

The gap between the two sides is “as substantial as ever.” (NY Post)

The only teams interested in acquiring Callahan would be to do so on a rental basis. (NY Post)

Glen Sather remains determined to get something for Callahan rather than letting him walk as a free agent but he has not receiving an offer yet that would be worth trading him for. (NY Post)

There has been “no significant developments” with the Ryan Callahan situation. (Katie Strang)

There has been no progress towards resolving the contract impasse between the Rangers and Ryan Callahan. (Larry Brooks)

There is little chance of a trade by tomorrow’s Olympic trade freeze. (Larry Brooks)

This is dragging into march god damn it and either Sather pays the ransom money (Please god no) or we get a bag of balls for him at the trade deadline. Very depressing.

disappointed this didn't resolve by Friday as originally reported.

I imagine other gm's saw that also and didn't offer sather dick figuring he was backed up against the wall. Sather declined the non offers and I suspect if cally doesn't come to his senses or get hurt by the deadline sather will probably be able to get something by the actual trade deadline
