Enjoy what you enjoy. People get too self righteous about snobby stuff. Not just wine but, food, fancy cars, kicks, whatever. If you get real enjoyment from it (Kicks) then that’s fantastic. But it does matter if anyone else agrees. I really love good (usually expensive) wine but that’s my problem. I had a glass of wine last week (free) that was from a $2500 bottle. I enjoyed tasting and thinking ablout the vineyard, the winemaking style, the viticulture, the barrels, the yeasts and all that. I sipped and got a lot of enjoyment from it (still not worth the money, thank god it was free). But that’s me.

Agreed on this front. Have been spoiled, tasted some amazing wines, some as old as 100 years old, rare wines from WW2 that are scarce, etc. The story and history are great, but the money is stupid money. I find so much I can enjoy in the $15-50/bottle range.

Had a screaming eagle sauv blanc a while ago, immediately called a winemaker friend to tell him I preferred his $25/bottle. Not that the Screaming Eagle wasn’t good, but it certainly wasn’t anything special.

sometimes, usually, money matters in wine to a point. It buys the most exclusive grapes and oaks, and pays for the best the field has to offer. But that often doesn’t pay off.

As far as history- I’d love to get more exposure to some of the great wines from the past. I get to try a ton of recent vintages but I miss out on a lot. Hopefully I’ll get more chances. But those are the moments I do remember.
